I've made a few people rage quit before, but I've never been good enough to be banned. I've only ever been kicked once, and that was for swearing at the admin.

Looks like attacking the OP is the new "thing" on the Escapist. This isn't the first thread I've seen this sort of dogpiling happen...

OT: No, I'm not good enough and play on consoles. I've been booted for accidental betrayals a lot, but never for owning people.

I was once banned off an IRC channel for about an hour for registering a load of people's nicks and ghostkilling them, but lord knows I deserved every second of that. (No remorse, though - and nobody really cared.)

So have you ever been banned for this reason? Like legitimately kicking a little too much ass for the admin's tastes? Share your story!
Actually, when my Call of Duty 4 game broke due to a mod, I had to reinstall it completely, so I had to start over at level 1. I got banned from 3-4 servers before they actually left me in one because I was level 1 and winning against some level 55's. It was really annoying... I just wanted to play the game. :/

I used to play ZEQ2 lite, a DBZ style fighting mod, and in the peak of my form playing that mod the one guy in the main server who I couldn't beat was the admin who was actually a developer of the mod too. I bumped into a moderator once and handed him his ass on a platter, he didn't take too kindly to it, he started calling me a cheater and everything else you can expect, and eventually he banned me. I changed my name once or twice just so I could continue playing on the server but he then continued to ban me and other people if he had even the slightest suspicion of them being me, the admin came in later and straightened him out.

Some people take games way too seriously.

Yes, I was banned from playing Magic: the Gathering with my "friends" because I had made a couple of decks that were nigh unbeatable by anything they could come up with.

The funniest thing is that they're all dead now.
What...the...hell? 0_o

Please don't kill me.

It's a scientific fact that 99% of the use of the word "Hax0r!" actually means "I'm really shit but it's easier for my ego to accuse you of cheating than to accept I'm really shit."

Oh yeah, I just remembered - I got kicked from a Go-Karting lobby on Gran Turismo 5 this week. The host actually replied to my PM asking why I had been kicked, and his answer was that I had been so much faster than anyone else I must have been cheating somehow.

The thing is, the DLC including the new karts and tracks had only been out for a little over 24 hours at this point and a lot of people are trying karts for the first time. These people assume that the new 125cc kart will always be faster than the 100cc (it won't, especially on a short indoor track).

I suggested the guy try going back to a 100cc kart, reset the gear length to give a max speed of 70mph instead of the default 90mph (you can't reach 90 on the indoor track so it's better to sacrifice top speed for better acceleration) and see if he still thought I was cheating somehow.

Kudos to the guy, I got a PM about 20 minutes later apologising...

Day of Defeat: Source - I was running around with my friend, using only the punch attack that the SMG class gets, I proceeded to get to the top of the leaderboard, killing off the entire enemy team by using the not so well known parts of the map (I knew the map damn well) multiple times, ambushing them, and sometimes just simply strafing in zig zags as I closed in. I killed the admin for the I-don't-know-how-many'th time and... "You have been banned by admin: *privacy for the admin*, Reason: Speedhacking"

I was like O_O, then I took it as a compliment xD

is thajt an actual movie kinda thing? Cause that looks like the guy from shawn of the dead, to which I can only say hes not as big a celebrity as I thought or he does a lot of made for TV movie projects.

But on topic, I think it had something to do with me shooting someone execution style in the back of the head and then when the guys team mate ran over to check on him, he didnt call any sorta pause and took his mask off, so I shot him in the face too.

...
that and I was known to verbally just start berating people if stuff got really intense.

A lot of people don't seem to realize that when you are an order of magnitude (or more) better than someone at something, it's a) not fun for the weaker (for lack of a better term) b) very difficult to improve your game facing the stronger (again) and c) also pretty difficult to comprehend how they could be so much better (aka accusing of hax)

When you are playing with friends that can cause a lot of conflict, but when you are an admin of a server, why should you let someone that much better stay there? Is it immature? Maybe a little, but eventually everyone else is going to leave if the 'better' players stick around.

On topic: no. I am generally not so amazing at video games that I will find some opponents that I am significantly better than everyone. I also find consistent domination pretty boring on the rare occasion that it comes up.

Every good Sniper has been banned in servers from a battlefield game, some CSS servers and probably a TF2 server. A lot of BFBC2 kicks/bans for me, even on Heavy Metal, which still baffles me. Banned for sniping on a map that big is like being sent to prison for eating Cadbury Creme Eggs instead of engaging in political discourse with them.

What this guy said, which is also the same reason I can't remember being kicked for doing too well. The purpose of online games isn't to find a community shit enough to make you look awesome.

I like the phrase "legitimately kicking...too much ass." You're a bully, plain and simple. Sorry about your manhood insufficiency problems, but you need to play against people who are a challenge to you. Bragging about picking off noobs is like punching a toddler and then gloating about it. How would you feel about a guy who bragged to you that he kicked a toddler's ass?
You do realize this is what happens in every warcraft3 server right? Technically speaking they all can be a threat to me, but the scrub rules they've set in their minds won't let them play their absolute best. Instead of going for the "OP" sets they insist on playing the game "the right way" which, in other words, means sucking. In the end this isn't akin to punching a baby and bragging about it, it's akin to punching a guy who insists the best way to fight is to pull down his pants and try slapping you with his dick.

(For the record I used pyro, backburner, boots of speed which let me double my running pace, mask of death which let me heal whenever I hurt someone and nigh elf class that gave me a 20% damage buff.)

Made folks rage quit, got kicked and banned on numerous occasions.
UT2K3/4 Instagib ftw.
I loved the huge custom maps with low grav and 200+% speed. Like shooting fish in a barrel with a RPG :p

I even made a Aimbotter rage quit because I kept killing him (he killed me more times though). Its all in the timing, when you know the reloadtime of the shockrifle its easy.

I can understand why it happens, people weren't having fun because you were overpowering them, I don't approve of it, but I certainly understand it and the admin must have seen it as the enjoyment of the many outweigh the enjoyment of the few.

As for your question, I've never been banned for being to good at a game, I'm usually accused of hacking, but never banned.
