Ever Been Disappointed by Evolution?

I've been playing a LOT of Pokemon White lately. I decided not to look at any of the Pokemon before I got the game (challenging, but rewarding). However, I still saw the first few that were revealed. I especially liked Axew (Kibago in the JP version) and couldn't WAIT to get him on my team and to see what he evolved into. Sadly, while browsing a gaming site the other day, I found out what he evolved into... Anyone who's seen his evolutions knows what I'm talking about... Cute, cool, green dragon w/ tusks -> bigger, horrendously ugly green dragon w/ tusks -> great big golden brown thing. WTF? This is one time I'll be mashing B like nuts... Has something this ever happened to anyone here on the Escapist? Has there ever been a time where you LOVE a Pokemon, but HATE it's evolution?

I haven't played since Silver, but I always preferred Haunter to Gengar and Cubone to Marowak, purely because they looked cooler (and Cubone was cuter).

The topic name is funny, I assumed it meant real evolution and I had a whole list of complaints.

I thought it looked cool, but then again the backbone of my team is a Conkeldurr. Nor will I ever use Axew, because it's the game's dragon. B/W's evolutions seem pretty good so far, but it doesn't counter the numerous other grievances I have with the games.

I guess you could say I've been disappointed by the evolution of the series.

I rarely evolve my dragonairs into dragonites. I just don't like the way dragonite looks.

I think that was one. I liked Raichu but Pikachu was like 1000x cuter.

I feel that the starters for black and white are unusual, snivy looks awesome, but the next forms body looks too big for it's feet, and while the final form is cool in it's own right, it just dosen't have the smug superiority that snivy has

Similarly, tepig looks much much better than emboar, pignite looks pretty cool, but emboar just dosen't look right to me (Not to mention its the third starter to be Fire/Fighting)

Oshawat looks Ok, and the second form is cool and is a logical evolution step, but the third is just a huge leap in the evolution terms, Water otter -> Bigger water otter -> Magical sea unicorn with an awesome mustache. While I like all of the stage threes, each one is off in its own way.

Also the lillipup looks so cute and just looses all of that when it becomes a huge dog with an awesome mustache, mustache dog is cool, but just isn't nearly as cute as the first stage.

Real evolution, kind of. Apparently wyverns did exist breifly.

Pokemon evolution, increasingly. Some pokemon just lose thier possible use in my eyes because of how they look, like Porygon-Z. Not that its all bad, who remembers back in GSC when they got thier first Tyranitar? Or in RSE when you get Aggron or Salamence?

I cant comment on Black/White yet because i intend to wait for the inevitable Pokemon Gray.

Aye you are not the only one disliking Axew evolution. When I first saw Axew and Haxorus as separate images in the early day of revealing Pokémon Black and White I had a bad feeling Anew will evolve into that (I hate that I was right).
The Pokémon that come into my mind is Electrike and Manectric in terms of disappointing evolution. Back in the days of playing Ruby, my local shop had imported the game before it was official release in the UK so I didn't see all the Pokémon?s appearance beforehand (needless t say I was quite surprise with some of the new Pokémon appearances). I thought Electrike look cool so I hat it in my team and levelling it to evolve it. Once I saw it evolve into Manectric, I completely rejected him on that spot. WTF with its head and the colour scheme is awful.

By the title I was pretty sure this would need to be in the politics and religion board. But.. suddenly it is about Pokemon.

Everytime I feel the nub on my back where my prehensile tail is supposed to be, I get disappointed by evolution!

Yeah, it always bothered me that the mammalian fovea centralis evolved without the ability to compensate for the thickening of the cornea as humans age.

Oh, Pokémon evolution? I think Eevee's Leafeon evolution is really lame. Since it didn't have a Grass-type form in the first version, they shouldn't have ever given Eevee a grass-type evolution. It doesn't work with the Grass stone, so Eevee shouldn't have any grass-type evolution.

In generally didn't like it when I had one of the main pokemon from the series (i.e. Pikachu, Togepi or Marill) and they would evolve into something else. I also think the first evolutions of Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander are stupid, but they make up for it by evolving into more awesome pokemon after that.

I always hated the second evolution for the starter Pokemon, they are always very ugly.
