how about you guys any crazy war stories from the front-lines or tales of grand bequeath-ment of death on the fields of yore that blew people's minds?
Yes. I think I've told this story before on another thread, but I don't remember...
I had been accused of cheating from way as far back as America's Army (if you're not familiar with this game, one of the things it was famous for was no respawns). I guess I sort of deserve that, maybe, mainly because of things like starting a match with an arse of an admin who basically said he was going to set us up in a Mexican standoff that turned into an execution of my (unarmed) team, and ended with me having three kills. Or using pistols with the kind of accuracy most people get from assault rifles. Or firing a SAW full-auto into a CQB bit with one of my teammates from quite a bit off, and only killing the enemy. Or starting out as the squad medic (who was generally banned from fun guns like the sniper rifles) and ending a match with several sniper kills (its not like the dead guy I couldn't revive was going to use it.)
Most spectacularly and frequently was with a different MMO FPS. By that time, I really didn't like people cheating (for real, not like when people say I cheat), so I would purposefully target people glitching, hacking, or generally playing well. This would include counter-sniping campers, , killing glitchers, shooting people doing wall hacks, fly hacks, and lag-hacks (let's just say the game was set up such that people so inclined could just make themselves switch between normal and horrible lag at will and turn that into an advantage), fighting people purposefully unbalancing matches (all you had to do was get some of your friends on the other team, who would quit after it started, and what starts out as a 5-5 match would sometimes become a 5-2 or a 5-1. 3 and 4-1s were still much more common though.) and killing people doing other hacks that made them nearly invulnerable. First major serious complaint was when I bumped #1 on the Australian server down to #4 in one match by out-sniping him, something that for some reason made it so no one else on the Australian server would play with me. After that, mods starting getting complaints about me almost every match. It got bad enough the mods played lots of matches against me with their own (legal) hacks, to try and find out how I was cheating. It didn't result in them punishing me, but because of that, they did balance out one gun a little better. After that, for the longest time, at least one mod would watch almost every match I played, something I found out when they cut one of the clan matches I was in short because the other team was cheating. Long story short, they found out I wasn't cheating, got in contact with me through my clan leader (who happened to be my little brother), and unofficially hired out the whole clan (with me in particular, mostly paying me in cash weapons, that my little brother was very pissed to find out were better than the ones he was getting) to continue being anti-cheat. This was followed by regular reports to my clan leader along the lines of "this is all the shit people have reported him for today."
If you're still confused as to why they thought this unofficial hire was a good idea, reason one was that nearly half of the people who reported me did so along the lines of "Well, he must have been using a really powerful cheat because I was using such and such a cheat and he still killed me!". Reason two was that they were still required to watch several of my matches a week, because of all the reports. Reason three was this was long before they had effective ways to keep track of, or punish, cheaters.
