I spent an embarassingly long time trying to beat Yunalesca in FFX. I think the only thing keeping me going was the fact that if I squinted, I thought I could see her lady parts through that ridiculous outfit she wore.

I tried that on my first playthrough... Turned it to easy for a while.

I was stuck on Lost Odyssey disc 4 for a very long time. First with the battle in the ruins and then with General Kakankas.

Was stuck on a the first level with the Contessa in Sly 2:Band of Thieves for over a year I think. (was a few years back) Only reason I was stuck was because of this one mission where you had to pickpocket the *****. She'd either notice me or her guards would. After a long while, I found a cheat code to skip to the next level. (but I did eventually beat that level and the rest of the game 100%)

Still never beat the 1st or 3rd of the series. '=[

Like 90% of the games on the old NES. Ghostbusters, Battletoads, Contra...

I am of course on the supposition that you mean WITHOUT cheats.

I don't think it will surprise anyone to know the level in question that inspired me to post this thread...

COD4, Veteran, No Fighting in the War Room.

I have been hopelessly stuck on this utter bastard of a gaming torture fest for the last 2 weeks.

I am almost at the point of giving up for the sake of my sanity and my flatmates (they are starting to wonder why I keep randomly shouting expletives behind my closed door...)

Have you ever been stuck to the point of giving up in despair?

And did you give in or fight through till you beat it?
I got stuck on one room on the level Charlie Don't Surf. It only took me a couple of days to beat, but it still frustrated me.

I also got stuck on the last mission or two of Spiderman 3 for the simple fact that I rid myself of the evil suit far too early.

Oh, and the last boss battle in Halo 3 on Normal. Man that thing was a *****. [/sarcasm]

Ninja Gaiden 2, I was dumb enough to start with path of the Warrior on my first play. I had never thouched a Ninja Gaiden game so I didn't know how god damn hard the game was. You have to block all the time, but some moves are unblockable.. and if you move without blocking, aka attacking, you will get shot in the face so many times that your character gets stunned.
And the bosses, geez, some of them got these grab attacks that take 3 quarters of your live in one grab. And guess what? It's unblockable, and it comes completly random, even mid combo.

But it I made it in the end, thanks to good ol' Flying Swallow ^^

Well I've been stuck on 'Hell's Wall' in the Front Mission DS remake for several months now. Not just one, but both of them! It's not unfeasible they've gotten major upgrades from what was already the hardest mission in the original game. And it's almost as bad in Kevin's new campaign- sure they're still pretty strong, but the one time they're up against an enemy who can easily damage them they're overconfident enough to split up into pairs. You must do the same and escort them despite the fact that they're far stronger than you. If any of them die, it's game over. And God help you if the enemy decides to target you instead of them- the missile barrages that Hell's Wall can resist 6 of will wipe you out in 3. Did I mention that both of these missions are 'Wiegraf' style*?

I'd say Claudius from Onimusha but he doesn't really count as a 'level', just an absurdly cheap boss; the only one in the game who can heal himself and mind control your allies among other things.

*- That is, there is an easier mission before it after which you cannot go train and are only given a save prompt

The game is only difficult up until the point where the big door opens slowly. If you don't get there with a checkpoint retry.

Tips: The corridor with the boxes and three paths, head straight down the middle, take cover mostly on the right and use the draganov to kill them, you'll need to play through this bit 4-5 times to figure out what soldiers have to be killed (minimum), when you get to what looks like the end of the room, the flashing red light, do not move forward, look back and throw two grenades left and right. If no-one comes out you're safe to move on.

Now you're at the silos. The trickiest bit to get through quickly because of the two corridors. You'll want to kill as many of the guys with your draganov to begin with before approaching the doors. Do it quick. Then push up againts the right door and look as far down the corridor as possible, throw a stun so it bounces off the wall, kill the guy who isn't stunned and then proceed down the corridor where the stunned man is. Tricky bit, using the nuke for cover edge around and spam draganov bullets. Do not pick up any shotguns, grab an AK-47 if you havent already, proceed forward and machinegun the leftovers.

Move up to the big door, if the checkpoint doesent go off restart from last checkpoint. Grab the grenades to the left, when the door opens enough throw a primed grenade in, then spam grenades to the sides, go grab the rest of the grenades to your left and throw two stuns in. Move into the room with the AK and head to the right. They should be dead but the left will get more guys, kill them however. Blow the wall and get a checkpoint, if not restart, this bit is easy, don't enter the room for 3 seconds then spray with the AK-47. Mission complete.
Thanks buddy... will try it that way later and see if I can manage it.

I keep getting past the three way split corridoor but the damn checkpoint doesn't trigger, I must not be doing it fast enough.

When I was eight and playing Ocarina of Time I went on holiday to my Nan's for a week while I was half-way through the Water Temple. I came back and had no idea what to do, got stuck on that for something like eight months, trying for a couple of hours a week to figure out what I did, before I used a strategy-guide. Even then I couldn't work out what I'd done, so I restarted and got my friend to do the Water Temple...

I like to think it was because of my short attention-span, but it may have been due to being as thick as pig-shit when I was young.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Spirit Doku Boss fight.

He'd be far more reasonable in terms of difficulty if he couldn't get a quarter of his health back in one attack. =\

Ever Played a little indie game called "I wanna be the guy?"

You don't even KNOW being stuck on a single part.

Trust me, you'll consider that level easy after trying it.
Oh yeh, with that one, you're not stuck on just one level, you're pretty much stuck on the whole game. I don't think I ever got past the Mech-Birdo boss. That was a nightmare!

Oh where to begin...

In Starfox Adventures at the Cloud Runner Fortress where you have to free the queen I was stuck for weeks because I overlooked the second switch. A dum mistake I know >.<

Vergil the third time on Dante Must Die at the end of DMC 3. There's nothing worse than a boss that regenerates health.

Nightmare in Metroid Fusion because I didn't notice the little slit where your supposed to shoot it.

However I think the end all beat all for me getting stuck was Sonic 3. Carnival Nights. That goddamn barrel. Sonic fans you know the one. I was stuck on that for YEARS.

That damn fire temple in ocarina of time. That was hard.
The water temple? /slash
Try the Gerudo Training Grounds in Ocarina of Time: Master Quest. The safety of your hair or teeth(or both(from your hands and, well, other teeth)) will be a distant memory.

If that's not available, try facing the Omega Pirate in Metroid Prime on Hard Mode. I thought Normal mode was hard enough.
