Don't know why, but the second to last boss in Sonic Adventure 2 (in the "last" story) took me aaaages to do. I then went on to beat the last boss first try.

The first set of Guitar Hero 2 songs and last 2 sets on Guitar Hero 3 both on Hard mode. I have never been good at that game and it took me weeks and the help of a friend to get past a few of the songs. I've given up on the entire series since then.

Waylon Flies Again: Advance Wars Days of Ruin, the AI is so damn erratic, you could end up in a stalemate till the end of time(I think my longest victory was 80), his economy is hard to outdo or break, the terrain on your side totally sucks when trying to get to the middle as compared to his (long ass road to the south, wastelands to the north, mountains everywhere in between, while he gets forest to the south, flat land to the north and a straight run in the middle) his air force is nigh undestructable when he boards a fighter and the odd bomber he likes to ruin your Anti Air untis with. Instead of weeks, put months.
After that, attempt to beat it with an S rank, you have 23 days to get 100 pts in speed. It takes at least that long just to take the middle. Oh and Technique is improved with fewer casualties on your side while also building up a smaller army, and power is based on how many ohko's you get, the terrain's pretty crappy so nope, that won't happen a lot.

Battletoads for nes. That damn hover bike level. I hate it so much.
Amen to that. I had it on the Sega Megadrive, you know how I beat that? I put the cartridge in the closet for a decade, downloaded a sega emulator and finally did it with the help of the quicksafe/load buttons. After 10 years, I felt cheating was allowed.

Also, Command and Conquer, the GDI mission with the Orcas, that took me a few years, but I completed the week before Tiberian Sun came out.

That damn fire temple in ocarina of time. That was hard.
The water temple? /slash
Try the Gerudo Training Grounds in Ocarina of Time: Master Quest. The safety of your hair or teeth(or both(from your hands and, well, other teeth)) will be a distant memory.

If that's not available, try facing the Omega Pirate in Metroid Prime on Hard Mode. I thought Normal mode was hard enough.
Was thatthe part where you had to sneak around in and out of doorways? That was horrible.

Or was it the riding the horse and shooting the targets bit? That was also horrible.

Luckily the spirit temple right afterwards was piss easy in comparison. Though it took me a while to figure out how to open the big head at the end...

For me? It's the level with Drizzt in Forgotten Realms : Demon Stone. Still not gotten past it!

I tend to find a lot of older games hard, and I've never worked out why.

It was the little dungeon you go through in order to get the Ice Arrow. If you haven't tried it, prepare to get more keys than in all other dungeons combined. There are that many locked doors, and not all of them lead to the Arrows.

in freespace 2... there are a lot of levels that you can't actually beat

there are a few missions where the ships that are supposed to be under the protagonist's protection will get blown up no matter how good your defending skills are.. took me a few reloads of the mission before i realized in the debrief it says:
"under these circumstances, there was nothing you could have done to save..."

had to reload those missions quite a few times before i figured it out

I always HATE missions like that. It's really frustrating sometimes how storytelling gets in the way of gameplay.

That's like in "Wing Commander IV" when you have to decide whether you are going to defect or no. It would have been nice if there actually WERE an alternate game path if you didn't defect! Instead, you get 1 extra mission with a chance to defect and then the game ends. Boo.

The Ocarina of Time Water temple had me stumped too for awhile. I believe what wound up happening was there was a door to unlock UNDERNEATH the elevator. That took me a couple of weeks.

The ultimate stumper for me was "Dark Forces"...Coruscant level. Not only were there a crapload of guys you had to make it through, and a roof top of doom, but then you came up against a safe with a combination lock that baffled me and my truckload of buddies who played the game for a full year. I was hailed as a conquering hero the day i cracked that and passed the solution onto everyone.

Ever Played a little indie game called "I wanna be the guy?"

You don't even KNOW being stuck on a single part.

Trust me, you'll consider that level easy after trying it.
You should try "I Want To Be Your Guy: The Movie; The Game", it makes CoD4 Veteran seem like childs play and I Want To Be Your Guy easy.

Hmm. I was stuck on the Thunderhead Keep level of Guild Wars. This was before any expansions came out, and it was a level notorious for killing off teams in the Final Showdown. It took me 2 months to get through there...

The ONLY games I can think of is either Diddy Kong Racing on the last boss when he starts to fly rather than running.

Then we have Golden Eye on N64. Getting like 007 on some of the last maps.

Other than that, really haven't had a problem with games. Because I don't play them on the highest level. Because I just don't see any fun of reloading way to many times for a slight mistake.

I was stuck on the last level of GTA IV, every time I tried it something went wrong. I stopped playing the game for many months, then my XBox died earlier this year and it wasn't until sometime last month when I'd gotten a replacement console from MS that I actually tried the game again and, after a couple of days of trying every now and again, I managed to complete it.

Weeks? Haha, I have a few games I have had for years and can't beat. I refuse to cheat though. The most recent and hardest is probably Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox. I bout it a few days after launch and it took me almost two years to complete.........on normal. Seriously one of the hardest games ever made.

Although, come to think of it, there is one I can pretty much imagine no one hear has ever had the horror of playing.
Based on one of the greatest comic books ever, SCUD, THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN for the sega saturn should have been amazing.
When my brother and I got it, we were convinced there was no way for it NOT to be amazing.
Then we played it.
there is literally a level where you run down a corridor for 5 minutes, shooting dogs. when you get to the end, you repeat the same corridor, same dogs.
and again
and again
this goes on for what seems like an eternity. I once payed that level all the way through, after getting fed up and bored many, many times -
took an hour to get past it. And it was just the same thing over and over.
Terrible.

FFX. I can't beat Seymour for the 3rd time. My PS2 is at my dad's, so I don't have the time to play and grind for several hours until I get my characters stronger. I've been stuck for years now.

Ermm... in one of the dungeons in Link's Awakening. I didn't know what "Stalfos" and "Pols Voice" were, so the cryptic clue telling you to kill them in a specific order was completely lost on me. I think I did it eventually by trial and error.
