Ever Bought A Game Based Solely On Yahtzee's Review?

So I was up at the local games store today, I just finished Bioshock, (which was amazing by the way); and I had my sights set on Bioshock 2. After perusing the shelves for a little while, I came across a few titles that appeared on the chopping block of Zero Punctuation. Almost instantly after I saw them I heard Yathzee's voice in the back of my head, chiming in with caustic sarcasm about how shitty it is. So I looked around, and I saw more and more games that were reviewed, and before I knew it I walked out of there with $500 worth of new releases that happened to be positivly reviewed.

Anybody else have this happen to them?

I ended up buying the Orange Box because of his review... other than that, I don't think so.

I've been searching gamestop after best buy for some the things he's recommended. Phsyochonauts being last on the list and the Sands of Time being right before. However, maybe it's just because I only recently bought a ps3, but I did buy Uncharted 1 and 2, and am looking forward to 3, even when he reccomended strongly against them.

Yahtzee led me to Saint's Row 2. I thank him every day for that.

I usually buy, then Yahtzee happens to review the game.
I agree with him most of the time, but it doesn't affect my gameplay too much...

I got Psychonauts on his recommendation, back when that review was first published (long time ago). I don't think I'd trust his reviews nowadays, though.

Yes. Painkiller. Possibly the best 10 bucks I ever spent.

I'd also been intending to buy the Orange Box for years but I'd kept putting it off until Yahtzee's review drove me to go get it. When Yahtzee unambigously praises a game as a work of genius, you fucking well buy it.

I think I also bought Left 4 Dead based on his recommendation, although I'm not sure- his review may simply have prompted me to look up more information on it, leading me to buy it.

Oh yeah, and it was his review of Ess Tee Aye Ell Kay Ee Arr: Clear Sky that incentivized me to go out and pick out a copy of the original Shadow of Chernobyl.

Funny pattern emerging here...

Oh yeah, and Braid.

I've never bought a game based on Yahtzee's review, however I have borrowed from friends if a game sounds terrible enough. Just to see it for myself.

I buy a game simply because I'm interested in buying it. Yahtzee has his opinion on games and I have my own. While I have agreed with some things he's said about the games he's reviewed his opinion doesn't change my view of a game at all. And it shouldn't, really. Everyone is entitled to have there own opinion so we shouldn't merely follow what someone else says. We should all buy/rent games based on our own opinions and not what some European with a hardcore grudge against quick-time events says. :p

I bought saints row 2 because he said it was just about the best game ever and it was basically a big steaming pile of shit. I got bored with repeatedly killing civilians when I was 13 with GTA3 and this is essentially the same thing. I got 1.5 hours in and quit.

Nope, I don't really take Yahtzee's reviews that seriously. He's reviewed a lot of the games I own and they make me laugh, but I don't think they're bad games just because he reviewed them as such. The same goes for any critic though, I'll listen to what they've got to say and make an informed decision of whether or not I give a shit.
