I went to GameSpot looking to buy Fatal Frame but didn't find it. I did, however, come across the game The Suffering. I knew very little about the game, just what I saw from some brief gameplay footage and that it was considered to be a scary game. It was only $7 so I can't claim buying it was much of a risk. Any even moderately expensive games I'll research carefully before buying. So, whether it was much of a risk or not have you ever bought a game on impulse?

Edit: Oh yeah, The Suffering turned out to be a great game.
With how expensive games are these days, I tend to do my research beforehand (though I recently bought assassin's Creed on PSP on impulse and I loved it, baring in mind I also loved the first game more than 2 and yes I'm crazy, I know), but I once bought Predator: Concrete Jungle thinking the concept looked awesome. It did look awesome, and it had such potential but.... My advice to anyone is not to buy Predator: Concrete Jungle. It knows how to tease you, just leave it be. Don't even look at it!
-Edit- Also bought Castlevania: Lament of Innocence for the ps2 on impulse. Apart from the absolutely abhorrent voice acting, it was an awesome game that explained the very origins of the belmont clan and indeed Castlevania itself (it was also made by the team that did Symphony of the night).

I still remember the only game i ever bought on impulse. It was 2004, and i was in Target, and a weird game caught my eye. After reading the back cover, i went to the Gamestop (which was in the same shopping center) to look for a used copy. The guy working told me for some reason they were sold out. So i thought to myself "This game must be good." I went back to Target and bought myself the game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, and have been a fan of the series ever since.

The only one I can remember is the Force Unleashed, which I found for $10. I didn't want to originally buy it, but I had heard good things, and when it was there for $10, it was worth a shot.
I am glad, I don't think I would have been happy if I paid more than 20 for that game.

When I was first picking up a GBA, I had enough money for one game and I chose Advance Wars. Boy was that ever a great impulse buy :)

Otherwise most of my buys are usually thought out, because I want it beforehand. It's an impulse buy if it's on sale and I was on the fence for getting it.

That's how I got most of my collection! XD

My most recent impulse buy was an N64 with 6 games. See what all the fuss was about (I was a PS1 kid). Lylat Wars is awesome!

Because I work in a video game retailer (and thereby get an employee discount), it is really hard to refrain from buying things on impulse simply because I can. When I show some restraint, though, I try checking them out first so I know what they're like.

When I went to Gamespot last, I ended up buying Fallout 3 for the PC on impulse because there was a lack of Dragon Age: ORigin's Cellector's Editions in the store. I also bought the first Golden Sun.
You sir are amazing
How so? Because I have an excellent taste in games? Like Golden Sun?

I've bought loads of games on impulse that I regret later on because I don't play them.

*shakes fist at Steam's weekend deals/holiday sales*

Yeah, I bought Star Ocean: Till the End of Time on impulse. I went into EB Games looking for some game (I can't remember what one) and the guy at the counter told me how Star Ocean: TTEoT had just come out. Now before that day I'd never even heard of the Star Ocean series, but I decided 'what the hell?' so I bought it. I'm glad I did too, 'cause I freakin' loved that game.
