Games have always been one of my favorite hobbies. I've been playing them since I was about 5. For some reason I've started to lose interest in games recently. I can't seem to put my finger on exactly what the reason is though. It's not that games aren't fun anymore. I actually just bought Mafia 2 and had a blast playing it. But see the thing is...I played it for 2 days (on my days off) and I didn't beat it, but now I have no desire to play it anymore and see the ending. I just lost the interest to play, even though I was having fun with it.

Another example: I patiently waited for over a decade for Starcraft 2 to be released. When it finally was, I played the first few missions and then promptly forgot about it before I forced myself to finish the game a month later.

I don't think it's because I'm getting older. I'm only 25. Has anyone else ever gone through periods like this where gaming just doesn't hold your interest like it used to?

Never. And I don't think I'll ever get that feeling. Games are my life. I've been gaming since I was three. This is one thing that I will never give up.

I'm going through it now, in the new/announced releases that are on the way, only Shogun 2 is interesting to me. Maybe its just part of either growing up or wanting more to do.

Not at all.

Just looking at the upcoming games I'm interested in makes me piss myself in excitement.

See, now that's a curious point...

While I still love to play games, and how!

I find myself less interested in buying new ones... NOTHING that comes out (with the exception of one or two things every couple of years - normally made by Valve) actually interests me at all.

Games used to excite me, and I'd spend hours deciding which new one I wanted to get...

Now I spend 5 minutes in the store realising how much I just don't care.

I'm not losing interest in gaming, I just have no time to play games at the moment. It's saddening, but I'm hoping to catch up at one point.

Yes, but not because of games like Starcraft 2... SC2 was great. It's more things like endless sequels to bad games that everyone else seems to love. And the dumbing down of games such as RPGs.

I think it's a combination of higher expectations and games getting crappier.
I know how you feel, especially on the sequels part. Last year I hardly picked up a game at all, now this year its like the opposite, I can't stop! So yes, I have been through some periods where games just didn't interest me.

Sometimes, but mostly with online games. Other times it is when I have 200+ games (literally) and still can't find anything to play.

You're probably just at a down point. You don't find games to be fun right now because you've been playing them for a while, so what you should do is step away from them a bit, focus on the other parts of your life, and your interest in games will be rekindled. Sometimes it takes a week, sometimes it takes months or even years.

Yes, I really do.
When I look back and realize I spend more money going to the movies than I do on games that's when I realize that movies are becoming ever more my thing. Plus, I only ever get games on my birthday and on Christmas and the occasional 'high profile' game that is coming out. Other than that, I don't give much attention to games. That's been helped a bit with my recent Xbox Live membership but still, sometimes I do feel like my life would have been a lot easier without games.

I mean, games have caused me a fair bit of grief. Like when my favorite female character from Mass Effect is labelled a 'racist *****' and I find myself defending her I suddenly realize I spent more time just getting worked up about, and defensive of, something that really shouldn't bother me then I have actually playing the game.
If I was a non gamer, people insulting Ashley wouldn't bother me. Because I wouldn't be aware of it.

Plus I wouldn't be 'forced' into war with my friends over which console is best when deep down I really don't care and I wouldn't be defending my own system so much. Plus I wouldn't be angry or defensive of great franchises that suffer hate and backlash and I wouldn't feel the pressure to buy the hot new title every time I get the chance.

But still, I do have fun playing with games. Despite the hate, price and general lack of availability I think deep down I am still a gamer. I found franchises I like, games I love, characters I feel obligated to defend and have had some fun experiences. So overall I resist those ideas and still play games when I get the chance.

In all seriousness, no. But I do feel like it sometimes. I'd never actually stop playing, and I'd always jump into a game if I was bored, but sometimes I do feel a kind of niggling apathy towards the deluge of shit we get most of the time.
