Nope, but I do change what part I'm interested in. Mostly back and forth between computer and console. Always playing something new.

Not really.

Consider this: why do you game? People play games for different reasons, and the fact is that not only will interest wane if you don't understand it, but some reasons offer more longevity than others.

I, for instance, play video games as much as I study them for artistic purposes. Games are an incredible new way to tell stories through interactivity, and it's still growing in that area. By understanding and appreciating the artistic and literary importance on the medium, I've given my life focus through it, and I'll never get tired of seeing the industry develop new ways to use interactivity to tell effective stories.

Maybe you like the competition, and you want to try playing more competitively. Maybe you're just a social gamer, and you use it to have fun wiht friends. There is a reason you like games, and if you don't understand that reason, your interest in them will eventually start to fade because you don't truly understand their value. Beyond that, if you play games just for escapism and a fun time, it makes sense that they may eventually get old; appreciation and understanding of the medium ensures that you will never look at two games in the same way, and keeps things fresh.

My suggestions and thoughts.
Sorry for double post, but this is awesome. I now love this guy for being so deep.

I might be.
Recently I find that I spend more time here than I do gaming, which seems very strange to me. However, this has only really been true recently. It's possible that I've lost interest, but it's far more likely I just need more games. The fact that I'm posting here must mean I still have a great deal of interest, right?

It's been a rocky time for gaming the past two years and I think it's taking it's toll on us all, we can only hope next year will be better. To help with the boredom I've actually been going back and trying old games that I've overlooked over the years.

I am actually going through a period like that just now (17 by the way). Like you, games just don't seem to interest me as much right now. I have gone through this before (multiple times, actually), and it seems to be caused by playing to much of one genre. It usually wares off in time, or when I play a really good game in a another genre.

A little since my PS3 is broken and I haven't been able to play as much. This caused me to get bored with the games that I have. Luckily, I have Killing Floor and Oblivion to keep me going.

my favorite genre is jrpg games and they have been going downhill for awhile now... at least golden sun is coming out soon! now i can go out with a bang. :( if that game is not good then that last sentience might just become literal :p
I can't wait for the new Golden Sun! That sentence might become literal for me too if it's not good. I loved 1, and while I still really liked The Lost Age, I thought it was a little worse. Hopefully they'll pick it up for Dark Dawn.

Honestly, the lineup so far for the rest of this year looks pretty meh for me, aside from a few games, and I dunno. I've just about lost interest right now, but that's always temporary.

This happened to me in the last few years of high school. I would still go and buy new games when they were released but then would never play them. When I did force myself to sit down and play, I had a great time. Just had no motivation to start...

It happens. Have a lack of interest in gaming now. But not because I've gone off it, I just prefer to do other things like get back into my drawing. Once the releases pick up again, I'm sure I'll be back to it with a vengeance.

Every time I see cleavage a piece of me cares less about games. not a problem when you are 5-18 but it starts to build up. Eventually you get married and you never get to see cleavage again and then I think interest in games builds up again.

I think I've often had that feeling myself, and from my experience I'd say that isn't really a 'loss of interest' in gaming in general, it's somewhat like growing up, some things just don't entertain you like they would years ago.

Ten years ago I could have had a blast playing just about any game, now 99% of games I find feel 'beneath me.'

It's a sad thing :/

Games have always been one of my favorite hobbies. I've been playing them since I was about 5. For some reason I've started to lose interest in games recently. I can't seem to put my finger on exactly what the reason is though. It's not that games aren't fun anymore. I actually just bought Mafia 2 and had a blast playing it. But see the thing is...I played it for 2 days (on my days off) and I didn't beat it, but now I have no desire to play it anymore and see the ending. I just lost the interest to play, even though I was having fun with it.

Another example: I patiently waited for over a decade for Starcraft 2 to be released. When it finally was, I played the first few missions and then promptly forgot about it before I forced myself to finish the game a month later.

I don't think it's because I'm getting older. I'm only 25. Has anyone else ever gone through periods like this where gaming just doesn't hold your interest like it used to?
You're having a hiccup. I had to force myself to get past the boring start of Red Dead Redemption and I'm still pushing myself to play it. Mafia 2 is encapsulating if you play it constantly. No long stops, just full day of gaming. I managed to complete it in a couple days by doing that.

You just need to find a game that you like, maybe get online and compete. But don't leave games, you'll regret it.

i generally only play pc games, so there is usually very little for me to play. deus ex human revolution, fallout new vegas, portal 2 are really the only games i am looking forward to playing simply because i don't want to play "another" military fps, or "another" gta clone. I started playing mass effect 2 earlier this year and just stopped caring less than halfway through, even though i enjoyed the first one. i bought dragon age along with the expansion and most of the dlcs and they have all yet to be installed. I started assassin's creed 2 and just stopped after i finished the tutorial level and jumped around for a half an hour. Most mainstream games are really starting to feel like 90% a game the company made last year 5% new character models environments and 5% new interesting gameplay. Okay, maybe its just me being bored... but how many games have you played this year with an over-the shoulder camera, a cover system, and some projectile weapons?

Sometimes I get bored with games. Usually around, oh, say, July or August. Then the Q4 releases come out, drain my bank account, and keep me going for another year.
