So I just gave my friend a free copy of Gothic 3 on Steam becuase it was part of a pre-order bundle and he was happy I gave it to him and I think its really cool how steam has this feature of the pre-order bundles and if you have the bundled game you can give it to someone for free.

So what do you guys think of this feature and have you even been given or gived someone a game?

Yes I have. Twice. And it annoys me that they can now play those games and I can't play ANY of mine.

For my brother's birthday I spend $60 on games of his choosing, and he has chosen a collection of Steam titles during one of the sales a few times.
That's the only situation, though.

I've gifted a friend a copy of Half Life 2 Deathmatch. Never received.

Neat little feature, though. Definitely makes it convenient for occasions like birthdays or what have you.

Gave a non gamer friend Half Life 2 when I got the Orange Box, he seemed to enjoy it for a while.

Sadly didn't pick up anything else like CSS/TF2, but that was to be expected.

Not at all. The account was suspended by Steam with no notification, explanation or justification. In fact, my repeated requests for any type of explanation as to what was going on was met with the same pre-programmed response, and to this day I still don't know what happened.

All my games were bought legally, and I don't play any multiplayer games, so I haven't done anything illegal. But, while Valve is getting blowjobs from its legions of adoring fans (no offense intended) and counting its money, I am effectively locked out of a great deal of games in excess of ?400. If you look at it from a certain angle, you might go so far as to say I was robbed.

As a consequence, I love my PS3, I am off PC gaming, and fuck Steam, and fuck Valve.

I once received a copy of HL2 Death match, but you can get that free regardless.

Out of curiosity, what did the response tell you?

I gifted a few times. Once for a friend here to do a review, once for another to play the original HL in all its' glory, and a couple for a Steam-friend of mine.

I've been gifted KOTOR. It was a great gesture, one that I repaid in a Five Guys hamburger in the real world. I've never actually gifted someone a game on Steam though... Maybe I should this Christmas.

I gave an extra copy of Half-Life 2 for a friend's birthday. He still hasn't finished it. :[

I also bought Torchlight during a sale for a friend. He played it for like one day (but said he enjoyed it). :[

Maybe they deactivated the account, and when they saw the account you used to contact them with was deactivated they ignored the message.
