Ever just lost interest in a long game?

This is something I suffer from quite a bit, and it's a problem I have.

Have you ever just lost interest when the game is really long game?

You're not stuck and you aren't lost in it; you're doing just fine, but you start to feel bored with it. That kind of a thing.

I do this all the time, and I'm just wondering if some of you guys to do.
Usually, if a game is more than 40 or 50 hours, I begin to lose interest unless it's really addicting to me. This is part of why I've never been able to finish a Final Fantasy, I think.

I think I just get tired of seeing the same characters for so long (unless I get really attached to them and really like them), and I get tired of the same plot (because when a game is THAT long, it's a little hard to keep it engaging the entire time), and it also gets boring when the gameplay is the same thing (99% of the time it is) every single battle.

Does anyone else suffer from this unexplainable "long game" issue?
This is why I personally prefer shorter games, averaging 20-30 hours or so. When I hear a game has upwards of 60-80 hours or gameplay or more (many Final Fantasies, Persona 3, etc.), then I know I most likely will never see the ending for myself, even if I do take an interest and liking to the game.

Final Fantasy.

I hate the gameplay, the story is thick and impenetrable, I can't make heads or tails of it.
There's too many characters who are, imho, unlikable, I don't have 50+ hours tospare on a regular week and I can't game and read a strategy guide at the same time.

hope that sums it up.

It's happened to me, but never on the first playthrough. It's only when I'm replaying a game, and because I already know what happens, I lose interest that much faster.

I think the only game I've stopped playing due to length was Lost Odyssey, and that was only really because I just wanted to get rid of my 360. I'd spent nearly 40 hours on it and was near the end of disk three (I think).

One thing I don't understand though is how some people can spend a couple hundred hours on Final Fantasy 7. It took me just over twenty hours to complete the game with relative ease, and I got a few peoples best weapons and limit breaks.

Usually though long games aren't a problem with me anyway, I'm not too fussed about the length as long as the game is still good.

In Pokémon Heartgold, once I discovered the Battle Frontier, I completely failed to advance any further. Currently, I fight in the Battle Frontier for 10 hours a week, but I'm still stuck at 10 badges. That doesn't exactly count, of course, because I still play so much.

I lost interest in Dead Rising and Portal when I got stuck at certain parts. My disk for the Orange Box is scratched so I can't play Half-Life 2 properly, and I'm currently stuck early in Episode 1.

However, I don't recall an instance of simply losing interest, unless it was frustration with an inability to get further.

not all of them are long and arduous... FFIV had rock solid pacing, required very little grining, a easily summarized story, and the characters died off consistent enough so u only hafta care about only like 3 of them anyway... it really only clocked in about 20 hours at most too...

OT: despite that FFXII was just too long and I wasted too many LPs on worthless crap I never used so I grinded for like 10 hours before I just gave up...

Almost every JRPG I've ever played, and a few WRPG, but not nearly as many

The side missions in Just Cause 1(and maybe 2) along with those in the Godfather and Ultimate Spiderman are bloody POINTLESS!
Yeah but Spider-man 2 and Ultimate Spider-man kicked ass.

Another point that I hate about Final Fantasy. Unless you have a guide the whole way through, you're going to get your butt kicked. D:
I love the characters and stories just...not everything else.

It seems to fly by when I'm really into the game and enjoying it. This recently happened with Persona 3 and 4 and Resonance of Fate.
You get a cookie for being one of the few that's played Resonance of Fate. :D
I'm playing it at the moment and luckily, it seems to be one of the few that exempt from this "long game problem" I have. I think it's because I like the characters so darn much.

It depends on the game. I have no problem with Bioware RPGs, for example, but I have never finished a Final Fantasy, my interest in Pokemon titles constantly wanes (only finished Emerald out of it, FireRed, LeafGreen, and Diamond), and titles like Oblivion and Fallout 3 don't really have an "end", so I eventually end up dropping a particular character.

Oh, and don't even get into my habit of "chronic resetting", especially when it comes to the old Lucasarts game "Gladius"; every time I'd reach the high tournaments, I'd get the compulsion to start over again, finale be damned.

You lost interest in Dead Rising and Portal? How does that work?
