Not really, I lose faith in people almost all the time, but I think that humanity as a whole might be ok in the long run

I swear humanity seems to take two steps forward then the actions of a few make it take five steps back.

I see articles now days where people are still being discriminated against. Or the fact that my government has a budget thats as balanced as a person with ten maxed out credit cards yet keeps spending money they don't have. People blaming video games for the stupidest things or censor and ban them.

So escapist ever lose faith in humanity?
I think one thing that you really have to consider is the progress of science, and where it is taking us.
The final goal of science is, ultimately, absolute knowledge. To know absolutely everything, to completely understand, say, how to manipulate matter, time and space, is to be able to achieve anything. And to be able to achieve anything, is to shed one's Humanity and become nothing less than God.
This is the final destination of science, Godhood. Our Humanity is the only thing holding us back. It's just that simple. To have faith is such a thing is incredibly arrogant.

Not quite yet (came close after I had a lecture about serial killers which included some graphic examples of some really sick stuff certain ones did) but I try and think for every nasty asshole their is at least 2 nice people. Maybe I'm hopelessly optimistic, but I still have faith in humanity.

To me losing ALL faith in your own race is something to jump too rather quickly. When I first came here and I saw that the general mood was that all of humanity were self-righteous bigots and that things always were better in the old days I figured "Well I'm sure they have their reasons". Then when threads started asking why people have no hope in an entire race it's for reasons like (And I quote) Disney, my brother or even I don't ever go outside because everyone (On a wild hermit guess I suppose) is a leech sucking the life from everyone and everything else I just facepalmed.

I've seen my fair share of awful things with these two eyes of mine and some of the things humans have done have been rather silly, but I've seen kind, selfless acts, I know good, fine people and I figure that for every fascist dictator that's sent millions to their graves there have been plenty of intelligent men and women who have fought for justice and equality. In my opinion with each generation we become more intelligent, more accepting and more environmentally conscious.

So in my opinion I think we're a fine race, In the grand scheme of things as much as we try to convince ourselves otherwise we're all just grains of sand floating on the winds of time, the sooner we realize that the sooner we can try to enjoy it all while it lasts.

Edit: Lordy loo some people here really do have their head stuck up their ass.

I don't have faith in humanity, at all. You could argue that good stuff happens, but it goes under the radar, but there are more to it than individual behaviour. Like considering we live in a society that prefers to reward physical achievements and entertainment achievements over academic achievements, it shows what kind of society we're trying to breed. Sure we could go out and cure cancer or help develop new psychological treatments that could benefit society, but you get more money and recognition if you just make a game show or learn to run a mile fast.

A more applicable question for me would be "Have you ever had faith in humanity?"

The answer would be "rarely, especially as of late".

By the time I turned 14, I was aware of my declining faith in humanity. I just woke up and saw the world as it truly is.

An utopian world will never exist, the human condition won't let it be so, and treat human beings as if it can is flawed from the outset.
I'm not sure that's what I was saying...not that it's entirely wrong.
Sorry, I didn't mean to put words in your mouth (or anything else for that matter, because I know that sort of thing makes you a saaaad paaanda...). I just took you're point about how this thread is rooted in idealism and kinda went off on one as to why idealism is stupid. It's usually well intended, but stupid nonetheless.

I was just pointing out that morality is an invention of the mind...and so entirely subjective. We pick and choose what is right based on what serves our societies better(mostly...it's a process). It might be socially beneficial...but can never truely be "right"...Because there isn't really a grounds for claiming that something is right. Rendering all human debate worthless!

Not really "worthless"(self quoting is lame, I know), it's nice to try and make our existence as easy as possible, and to look out for eachother. I just like how you can reduce even the most caring and seemingly righteous moral arguments to arrogant nonsense by acknowledging that we are just making this shit up as we go along...
I'm not a moral relativist; I think there is an objective right and wrong. This is where we part, shake hands and walk off in different directions :)
