The one that's winning, right?
Unless the guy being stabbed has a really unhealthy fetish. Yes I suppose.
Though I feel my original point of "war is bad" might have been lost now.
This thick head of mine, sorely unable to discern metaphor from images very much akin to a blind man looking at a perfectly siliconed bosom.

Those little commercials for the Canadian armed forces showing them helping people off boats, escorting refugees out of combat zones, feeding the chillins. It really makes you believe in the whole noble warrior thing.
British army does the same thing, they're really desperate to convince everyone that you're not just going to get sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. Then they put on a commercial showing troops on patrol in the middle east and one of them kicks a IED hidden in a football that some kid asks him to give back. Bit of an own goal there as advertising campaigns go(pun intended, I was going to go with 'shooting yourself in the foot', but thats a bit close to the horrible reality).

Aw yeah! The military is awesome!
Take a look at this guy

He looks like he's having loads of fun!
Is that the scene from Saving Private Ryan where they struggle and the German knifes the guy?

I've never watched a war film that made me want to join the army the prospect of death is a little bit of a put off, but I've watched some that gave me a better respect for soldiers.

Not so much any war films but the book "3 Para" had me itching to stroll down to the enlistment ofice toot-sweet...
I'm not really sure why. I still have an internal battle with my self fairly often about possibly joining the RAF after I finish university.

You join the Armed forces to serve your country not just to go to war. Theres alot more to it that just killing or being killed. Most of the people in the Army I know personally are great people and I would trust them with my life and would have no other to back me up.

Well ya, but at the end of the day their job is to go to some far away place and endure hellish conditions with the constant risk of death. Even worse, most of the modern wars haven't really been for a point.

So most people kind of see through the whole "serve your country" thing, and see "Canon Fodder for political powerplays".

Sure, after I watched "In the Army Now" with Pauly Shore I wanted to join the Army. Then my dad told me that the Army wasn't that fun and that Pauly Shore was an idiot. I was around 13 or so when that movie came out, so fast-forward about 7 years and I did join the Army.

It turns out my dad was right, the Army isn't fun and Pauly Shore is a complete idiot. Though, I didn't really make it that long in the Army. It took around 10 months for me to be discharged(general, not honorable or dishonorable) for being "unfit to serve". Apparently my general aversion to authority and rebellious nature didn't mesh well with what they were trying to do....go figure.

None, but Black Hawk Down came close.
I second this.

But then I realized I had already been in the military, just for a different country. And so I was like; "Oh, right...nevermind."

I think it's great that people find reasons to serve their country. I have no idea where they found those reasons or if it was just propaganda. But I surely never felt like I owed anything to this place.

As doombreeder said, I'm not really interested in being a pawn for politicians, who next to people in marketing, are some of the worst people I can imagine living on this planet.
