I generally have very little funds for games (especially relatively new ones) so have already researched both titles to the point of exhaustion. So personal recommendation is pretty much the only thing left that will help.

So, what should I go for? Or should I miss both and wait for Mass Effect the third?
Help appreciated!

I know that feeling!... I reckon you should get Batman, as it looks all kinds of awesome... or maybe get Skyrim...or Uncharted 3...or BF3...or MW3...or AC:revaltions....

I may have to create my own thread...or just hijack yours ;)

I love both games. They are both great so you can't go very wrong here.

However you need to be slightly masochistic and very stubborn to enjoy Dark Souls and for pure relaxed fun Batman is slightly better.

However if funds are an issue, you'll probably get longer gameplay out of Dark Souls, not that Batman is short, just shorter.

Well Arkham City is amazing so you won't be disappointed if you go with that. I don't really know much about Dark Souls though so I can't say which is better.

while Dark Souls is very good indeed, Arkham City is absolutely brilliant. But that's just my opinion

If you dont already have skyrim, mass effect 3, or saints row the third payed off, you should skip both of these games for the moment.

Dont get me wrong, their both good, but i dont feel that their worth 60$. I like Dark Souls, but 70% of your deaths, you will only learn "Ledges Suck" or "Big guy kill me because i didnt stay on the path i didnt know was the correct one". Its a great game, and id be more then happy to buy it, but it suffers from lack of direction, in to big of a way. They went from "Not holding your hand" to "Hitting your hand with a hammer, and telling you to watch out for the hammer next time."

And Batman is an amazing game, but the controls are a tad bit clunky at times. Id say buy it if you can play a story game 4-5 times. I can really only go through story games 2-3 times before they start to bore me, but thats just me. But Batman: AC is a fun game that hits all the nails on the head, without breaking any of your fingers.

Id say, if you have the option, rent them both 2-3 times, or just wait till they drop in price a bit.

I just got both of them in my mailbox five minutes ago. :D
Dark Souls would probably give you much more playtime, but if I could only take one I'd go for Arkham City.

Mass Effect 3 isn't till next March next year, so you've got plenty of time to save. If you do feel like saving up for a game, then Saints Row The Third comes out in just over two weeks.

Dark Souls, by a long, long way.

It's hard though, be warned.
I'v never been properly challenged by a single player game before (outside the super-meat-boy you must have reaction times of a God ethos) which is why im leaning towards Dark Souls, also do you need to have an xbox live gold subscription to access all the multiplayer?

(also I may be wrong but you username seems awfully like a Catch 22 reference, in which case, good on you sir!)

The answer is none of the above. Get Skyrim. Then save every penny you get after for Mass Effect 3.

Batman is lined up to be my game of the year, and I wasn't even that hyped about it, so I pick Batman

It's a pretty difficult position here. Both are good games in their own way and either of them would be a good choice.

Dark Souls has a lot of action/RPG elements, a huge open world, as well as a very steep difficulty curve that will continually challenge your skill and patience. This is great if you desire a challenge and a truly difficulty game.

Batman: Arkham City is an action/stealth game that lets you truly play as Batman and immerse yourself in the Batman universe. You unlock various gadgets, engage in free-flowing fights, stealthily take down foes, encounter various iconic villains, and travel through the large Arkham City compound. If you are familiar with Batman and enjoy a good action game, this game would be great.

If you dont already own Arkham asylum (The batman game before Arkham city) I would suggest getting Arkham city as it comes with a copy of Asylum. Two games for the 'price' of one.

I'd need to know if you've played Demon's Souls first... Dark Souls is a great game but so is Arkham City. Since you said you have limited funds I wouldn't want to recommend Dark Souls unless I thought you're the kind of person who would really enjoy it. I think Dark Souls is in Redboxes right now. I'd say buy Arkham City and spend the two bucks to rent Dark Souls to see if you like it.
