I haven't got the demo yet, but the game looks fun as hell. The title sounds like something a Dethklok song title would be.

Damn it you beat me to it....

It is the opposite of what I feel. Not only will this game be a bucket of totally awesome gameplay, if the demo is to be judged. But it might put some life back into the character of raiden, while snarky and a bit of a douche he did make me laugh quite a bit.

So.. Yeah.. No. I believe this game will rock. Pre ordering it as soon as I can.

I get what you mean, but have you given the demo a try? It might not change your sentiments, but I think it's worth a try for any Platinum Games fan.

i love it
it's like bayonetta, Otacon and Sam-whats-his-face from Vanquish had kinky sex and we get a game where the world feels very much MGS while the gameplay is kinda like bayonetta but with vanquish aesthetics and some MGS elements(the was the inventory works, stealth, weird ass controls) thrown in. i like that stealth seems to be rather effective(you can even stealth-kill geckos) and i liked the free slicing mechanic, but it would have been nice if somebody told me when i can use it to cut parts of enemies in half. I also feel that this would be a setting you could set a normal, more stealthy MGS in, the cyborgs would make good enemies to sneak around, since they would pose an actual challenge to someone who is not Raiden

oh and i really like that despite the enemies that are in the demo being 90-100% machine a stealth kill on a normal soldier is done by stabbing them through the heart, complete with blood fountain. feels a little out of place since MGS games never had much gore but hey, this is a spinoff. And i am calling it now: the guy you buy the upgrades from is evil.

oh and platinum games has yet to disappoint me, i even liked infinite space.

I have no plans to play the game. It looks nothing like a Metal Gear game to me, but that seems to be the trend in the MGS series of late. Raiden is probably my least favourite character from the series so yet another game revolving around him has absolutely no appeal. I was happy to see Ground Zeroes pop up though, it's definitely a sign that the franchise isn't going to die soon.

I am now imagining Raiden killing all the developers of MGS: Ground Zero. You know, the classic stealth orientated Metal GearSolid game that is in the works that several people have already mentioned? From that it should be obvious that Rising will not have any effect on game releases in the main series, it's not even made by the same people so you don't have to worry about it taking man-power away either.

I love it, but I love crazy action games. I played through the demo several times and I love the fact I can still find new things. Like noticing the music in the boss fight adds a layer every phase and makes the fight more intense, or the dodging cat. Not to mention the combat, there is so much unexplored potential in there that the tutorial doesn't even mention. That does make think that most people see that as a bad thing since they want giant tutorials that explain everything and hold your hand.

If you don't want to find the techniques for yourself:
Ninja Run allows you to deflect bullets with your sword.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE ANIMATION OF PRESSING CIRCLE TO RETRIEVE SPINES. If you choose not to press circle, you can pick the spine from the floor later.

First of all, the first triangle-attack in any combo can be activated after any square-attack.

Triangle->square->triangle: That's the forward spin, ends with a kick and easy blade mode.

Triangle->Triangle->square (watch out as Raiden will automatically do 3 hits)->triangle: Will send your enemy flying with an easy opportunity for blade mode.
Triangle->Triangle->Triangle->square (3 hits)->triangle: Pretty much the same but a bit stronger, obviously.

You can do aerial square 5 times in a row, Raiden will inevitably land after the fifth hit. If you just do 4 hits, you can follow up with afterburner kick (forward-triangle) or triangle->triangle, which is pretty much an improved helm splitter.

Stinger is double tap forward triangle, you can follow up with blade mode easily. The recovery after the stinger is very long so I'd recommend you to use dodge to cancel the recovery time (square+X and a directional input), forward dodge is stronger and a bit slower.

Double tap forward square is high time, you need to manually jump afterwards.

Backward/forward triangle is a low kick which sends enemies off their feet (easy blade mode possible)

Backward/forward square is a slow albeit strong punch, easy blade mode.

Ninja run->square, you can fucking slash while running, awesome!

Ninja run->triangle->triangle is pretty much a guaranteed stun on robodog.

You can theoretically mash square infinitely, though it's pretty weak and won't stagger enemies that much.

Triangle inputs usually end with finishers while square can be mashed for an infinite attack.
Triangle often results in Raiden using his sword on his feet.

Twirling the left stick->triangle will make Raiden breakdance, keep in mind it's pretty slow but very strong once you get it rolling.

You can use afterburner kick right after you pressed triangle twice in the air, the timing isn't that hard. Keep in mind you mustn't move the stick in order to execute the helm splitter move.

Funnily enough, soldiers can shoot each other with their guns, not sure about rockets and grenades, doubt it, though.

It's a lose lose. New fans would not want to play something in fear of confusing of lore/plot and old fans are disgusted by the drastic changes.
Or fans of both are super excited, though I have a feeling that there's not many others like me. Platinum did rewrite the plot, so it will probably be more newcomer friendly however the people who loved the story of the previous games may hate it for not being the same as Kojima's style. Even as a huge Platinum fan, story is their weakest point. This is all speculation since the game is not yet out.

Those 'humans' are cyborgs. Just saiyan.

I know Platinum were the ones that decided to shift the timeline to after MGS4, but isn't Kojima's team still handling the writing and storyline?

Either way, I think the fact that it takes place after the events of 4 should be inviting to newcomers. Since these are entirely new events happening, unlike the old draft for Metal Gear Rising which took place well within the timeline of the Solid series. So even to fans of the franchise, these events will be new to us.

I can't wait to download the demo when I get home today. I've loved the look of this game ever since I saw screenshots. Raiden doesn't bother me as much as he seems to bother most people, so I have no problem playing as him. I don't mind a departure from the Solid formula either, as much as I love it. But I have Ground Zeroes in the future for that (and Phantom Pain, perhaps?).

From what I understand P* is doing the storyline but it has to get Kojima's team's approval. There was a video somewhere that had P* talking about the creative clash they had making the game since they wanted more over the top action while Kojipro wanted to stay more true to Metal Gear. In one of the trailers Raiden throws a Metal Gear Ray in the air and P* mentioned where they had to fight Kojima's team to include it.

Looks stupid, based around a stupid character, and throws out the stealth that I loved so much. I will wait for the critique when it comes out, though something tells me I already know how I will feel.

this game looks awesome. MGS4 bored me to the point where i couldn't finish it. it's time for something new and this Revengeance is just that. Watching the gameplay i can safely say this is my kinda game.

Also it's just a spin-off, the Metal Gear series isn't dead. I don't know what's with all the fanboy drama. They always throw a fit whenever a team try to do something different for once, why is it that society hates creativity? I'm f***ing tired of hearing it and tired of playing the same old s***. stop fighting against change already!

Never been a huge fan of Metal Gear, but I respected it for what it was.

Even as a non-fan, I can say that this game looks like it's derailing completely from it's stealth-based routine. I'm sure there'll be stealth elements in this game, but having only seen the E3 2012 trailer, I can say that to me this looks like Ninja Gaiden in the Metal Gear universe.

Just to add on to your sweet little guide:

You don't HAVE to retrieve spines, but doing so in-combo contributes to your post battle bonus and ranking.

You don't have to wait to use blade mode on enemies. Most of the basic footsoldiers can be cut to shreds without even using a basic attack, though stunning them first often helps to set up better cuts. In addition, if you wanna screw with them, you can cut off the enemies arms and legs without actually killing them (though a decapitation is, from what I can tell, always an instant kill).

Geckos/other big enemies will glow blue when you can blade mode them. This usually happens after a set amount of damage is done, or after a QTE.

Square->Triangle does a very quick, AOE palm strike that pushes enemies back. Its very effective for crowd control, and if you are in an inclosed area/quick on the button, its a free blade mode kill.

Enemies CAN hurt each other with their explosives. You'll set it happen a lot with grenades, as they seem to have no problems tossing them with friendlies around.

You can cut open RPG rockets in mid-flight with blade mode. Not sure about grenades.

There are two different parry attacks you can do. Simply pressing Towards enemy->Square at any point during an enemy attack will put Raiden in a parry stance. However, if you parry JUST before the attack hits, you get a special counter animation and time slows for a second, giving you a free combo/blade mode attack.

YOU CAN CANCEL ANY ANIMATION WITH BLADE MODE. This is huge, at if used correctly you can do much longer combos. Simply tap the button to cancel, no need to hold it down and waste meter.

Also, even in the demo, mess around with the Codec. Your contacts have a LOT to say, and flesh out the setting quite a bit. Unusual for an action game, but hey, this IS Metal Gear, after all.

Not gonna lie, at first I didn't think very highly of it. In no small part due it's name.
But just now I saw someone play the demo and I realized just how much like devil may cry 3 it is. And I adored that game, in a warts-and-all kind of way.
Soooo yeah... Keeping it on my radar after all.
I still have one mayor gripe with it though. I just don't really enjoy games if I don't know the story. Meaning I'd have to catch up on aaaaaall the metal gear lore. From what I've heard that in itself might be a good enough reason to walk away right now.
