Pay Day does damage, and scatters coins on the ground with a value equal to twice the user's level for each time it's used. Ash won almost none of his badges in the first season fairly.
Brock: Cheated by using the sprinkler system.
Misty: Team Rocket interrupted the fight.
Surge: Waited for Raichu to use up all his energy (and standing on it's tail, writers really wrote themselves into a wall)
Erika: Never even fought, he saved her Gloom.
Sabrina: Ash was beaten senseless by her Kadabra but a Haunter he doesn't even own made her laugh so she gave him a badge (wat?)
Koga: Team Rocket interrupted but they did finish their fight.
Blaine: Ash saved Cinnebar from the volcano, so he was awarded the badge.
Giovanni: Never fought, fought Team Rocket instead.
Also why is Ash the hero? He sounds like a douche right now. Gary Oak is a far better trainer.
