I have played wow for since release and i enjoy playing it allot it has bad points but it still is a fun game and ive played wraith beta now and was amazed at how much better it is and now warhammer online is out people are like its gonna knock world of warcraft of the number 1 spot it anoys me because people are expecting it 2 be beter when it is just another fanasy mmo with the same kinda things wow has and more but Blizz know this and have put loads of stuff in wraith to make it better and also do people still remember Lord of the rings online that was gona knock wow of the top spot but look at it now and Age of Conan people also said "im gona quit wow for AoC it looks awsome" a month later they go back on wow coz its were they are already 70 and have good gear

any thing but wow just seems to distant and kinda of the same and 1 more thing people and fucking graphics i mean come on warhammer online looks like guild wars and after a while it looks granny and shit and LOTRO as well same kinda look and AOC realy good graphics were as u look at wow and it is easy to look at and also timeless there graphics will never go out of date coz they never made it to look real they made it to look good and so any 1 with any pc could play it (or mac)

First of all, learn to freakin spell dude. Second, every MMO gets compared to WOW, inevitably, so of course they're gonna say it's better than WOW. Now that WOW has invaded society and firmly rooting it's tentacles, every genre that starts with the letters MMO is going to have to beat the "It's like WOW, but with..." statement. And then you have Planetside. I know it's not an MMORPG, but it's still an MMO, and it was pretty fun. What we need is for people to stop making MMORPGs and start making MMOFPSs, MMOTPSs, and MMORTSs. That is how we're going to finally destroy the WOW plague (can you tell I hate WOW?)

Ok, I played WoW until I got to level 70 and it and it got even more boreing then. Every one said it is completely different when you get yo 70 but it just becomes a different kind of grind. To be honest, nearly every MMO that has been releaised since WoW has been better. There, I said it.

If you look at GW... now that is a very pretty game that is huge and expansive. It's got challenege and takes a fair bit of skill and don't say it doesn't cuz its same kind of combat as WoW. You're missing the key point that that takes a knowlegde to be good at. With WoW you have a set nukber of skills and they all go on your skill bar. With GW you have hundreds and hundreds of skills and its knowing which ones to use when and which ones work well together.

Guild Wars can ber challenging and far more entertaining. It doesn't feel like a second job that you are obliged to play and that is a rare quality in MMOs. I don't play Warhammer but from what I've heard it probably will be better than WoW but people will (for some unknown reason) miss the grind of WoW and go crawling back to suckle its polygon teets.

Now, I played GW, and I didn't like it because of the grinds and tactics and strategy. I'm sick of people talking about shadow form spec and ursa form spec, about doing a run, about vanquishing, about all that. That's not my kind of game. I don't feel like thinking when I'm playing an action game. I want to hit things. I hate standing there wailing on the same spell button. I know there are a lot of people that do like that, I'm just saying I don't. I'm not saying it's a bad game, I saying I don't like it.

Plus, GW and WoW isn't really a fair comparison. GW is all instances and PvP. It's not a true MMO unless you're in a town.

This is it right here. You're not going to be better at something by making a shameless attempt to imitate it. You don't even have to eschew the notion of MMORPG entirely, just find another direction to attack it from. I had hoped WAR might show a bit more initiative but my initial impressions are... not impressed.

I like WAR so far it feels more, you know like a war. As opposed to WoW which felt like i was trying to eradicate all helpless wildlife on earth.
And the fact that the Missions in WAR actually feel like I'm accomplishing something because a goal beyond grinding is given to you.
Within my fist 45 mins of playing it I

A:Catapulted myself on top of a huge fort
B:Stuffed some dwarves in a barrel and tossed em off a cliff
C:Broke a siege with the help of some other players and a Giant

Not bad for the first bit o' gameplay.

P.S. its spelled "every"

What, you thought Blizzard was original? hah. The gameworld is actually far more interesting, at least.

Yeah, but this time it's PvP so you get to bunny-hop while you're doing it.

I'd rather play Warhammer than WoW (but I'm not giving money to EA or Blizzard respectively), simply because Warhammer actually has a really nice background and setting, which WoW stole liberally from.

Jesus H.

We're not "stream of conscientious" types around here. We're more into the structure thing.

Tip: If you use Mozilla Firefox 3 it has a built-in spell checker.

And if you think I'm just one more grammar/spelling Nazi, get use to it. You will get call on it a lot 'round here.

... and Shakespeare, considered by many to be the greatest writer, liberally stole many of his ideas from others. Plagiarism is older than radio.*

Anyway, on topic, every time a new MMORPG comes out it is compared to WoW is because unlike other games, most people will only play one at a time (cause of subscription costs). WoW currently has a monopoly on the genre, any game that wants to encroach will have to knock WoW off it's perch.

So, comparisons will be inevitable.

*See what I did there? Oh sweet irony...

I just don't understand why all MMOs apparently have to be fantasy games. There's plenty of tabletop RPG campaigns with sci-fi or even modern-day settings, so why not MMOs? Surely if you want to distance your game from WoW, staying away from elves would be the most obvious step.

Tabula Rasa, EvE online, City of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxy, Matrix Online... to name but a few.

But yes, since the creation of Ultima Online their has been the majority of fantasy MMOs, and mention "MMO" to a random non-gamer and if they actually know what you're talking about they'll immediately think elves and magic, if not going full hog and thinking about WoW.

But personally, I'm enjoying WAR, I've played it since closed Guild Beta, and its something a bit different. Now I'll admit I only played a couple Trials of WoW, and I was never impressed. Sure it looked pretty, but the grind was as evident as any Korean MMORPG. Cabal online gave me a similar experience for free, and had nice shiny particle effects everywhere.

But this is the big secret to MMO gaming: Hiding the Grind. All MMOs have it, and their goal is to make you care about grinding to the top, while immersing you to the point you do not notice it. What WAR does is great, with the Tome of Knowledge adding content pretty much for just watching a bird fly past the window it adds greater and greater depth, and as someone already mentioned it feels like a real war.

Anyone that has played Tabula Rasa or Planetside may know exactly what it feels like to be in the middle of something big and overwhelming. (even if TR was a bit pants, it had a nice feel to it) Age of Conan made out that everyone was the chosen one, which is wrong. You're just another little cog in a giant machine.

// On the side note of MMOFPS, Huxley is more or less a 3d UT server selection engine, not a true MMO as its all instanced, kinda like GW. And MAG is consul based isnt it? So doubt its persistant world. Meaning its just a giant multiplayer, rather then a real MMO like Planetside was. I'm waiting to see if Welkien becomes viable to play outside of China at the mo.
