The most important part of this story might just be the "ex-soldier" part. If he's an ex-soldier because he was discharged, thats pretty strong evidence that it's not the medium that creates pshyco assholes. But even if he wasnt discharged, it's not fair to say it's because of the game. Just as it is with all these stories.

Crazy people are crazy all on their own. You dont play a game, watch a movie, read a book or look at a painting and suddenly become Roberto from Futurama.

Let's see who they try to restrict first: the soldier-training programs that may eventually lead to, as you said, traumatic and life altering events, as well as costing the tax payers billions in a time of recession, or the gaming industry which employs hundreds of thousands and brings in billions in terms of export revenues.

I'm quite sure the reasonable gentlemen will bring down the latter.

Heh let's hope somebody comes out and points out it might be his former career as a soldier there has created the violence and not a fucking game.

Hes an ex-soldier, are you surprised he's violent?! The guys a fucking coward who beat up a defenseless kid and then tried to blame it on the kids siblings. Their mother is no better, if anyone permanently crippled my kid I would want them to go down as soon as possible. I'm not even going to talk about the fact it was over a save file!

He is probally an Ex-Soldier for a reason, and besides, she was only a girlfriend to him for only 1 year...the kid was 8...maybe she covered his ass either because she was afraid of being alone, or if the cash was low. (no offence)

Just seems weird to me anyway, if he wasnt married, why would his X-Box be at her house anyway? Id doubt that the news spinners can spin the blame as GTA's fault, i mean he is an ex-soldier, don't they discharge people for a reason?

His girlfriend probally had it worse though, several kids to support (probally from different boyfriends leaving), scraping cash to put food on the table, the potencial situation that one of her chidren could've died because of her boyfriend....she just wanted her children to live nicely i guess......but there must've be somthing serious that couldve happened just for her to fight for someone who ferrociously attacked a child just because of a deleted save though.

I'd say this could have happened if the kid had spilled grape soda on his favourite jacket, the reason is irrelevant, he was obviously just waiting to crack over something.

While not wishing to be rude about the army, anyone who willing joins up to protect their country is great, I'd say it's not natural to be able to coldly kill people, so training to become a soldier is going to affect your mental state. By its very nature, the training has to weaken your resistances to killing your fellow man. A tiny percentage of those people are going to react badly to what they experience during their duty.

I think if I ever find out I have a week to live, I'm going to give all my gaming stuff and tech, music, books, comic books, and movies to charity, and invest in a thousand back issues of the Daily Mail, then go on a killing spree of vapid D list celebrities.

Just for the sheer pleasure of the research finding out 'what made me do it'.

As usual I find myself agreeing with Soundwave
We'll be agreeing again next month when we're both going on about how awesome Dragon Age 2 is!
Why wait that long? The demo is released tomorrow.

Did you bother to read the article? It stated the facts. GTA is a ultra-violent game. The kid deleted his account that lead to the attack. No where does it blame anything, just states the events as they occurred. This hypersensitivity is just as ridiculous as the other side's.

I'm pretty sure it is, because unless there is 1 million downloads across all systems by March 1st they are not giving every player a free belt or some other item

It's in the daily mail, a newspaper that has had repeated attacks on gaming and Rockstar in particular. Also, it was a joke.

Speaking of hypersensitivity, read your own post.

I think it's safe to assume that being in the military fucks you up for life... plus it doesn't help that most recruits aren't those with the highest amount of brain power.
