I think it's safe to assume that being in the military fucks you up for life... plus it doesn't help that most recruits aren't those with the highest amount of brain power.
So every single person who is in the military is automatically brain damage and/or stupid? What kind of bullshit is that?

Has to be something else to it than just his game save being deleted, there is no one that attached to their game save to do this. Of course, this is only made stronger by the fact it was reported by none other than the daily mail. Nevertheless, 75 years seems like a good enough sentence. Of course as long as he doesn't beat someone up in jail as well it'll only be 32 years.

I blame the videogame, not the traumatic and life altering events that can come with being a soldier.
Did you bother to read the article? It stated the facts. GTA is a ultra-violent game. The kid deleted his account that lead to the attack. No where does it blame anything, just states the events as they occurred. This hypersensitivity is just as ridiculous as the other side's.
Why was it relevant that GTA was 'ultra-violent'? It might as well have said "Donadio, who wears glasses". Sure, it's a fact. But it adds absolutely nothing to the report. The intent of its inclusion is obvious, there is no way you can misinterpret that. Plus, it IS the Daily Mail. I can say in complete honesty that the only reason they put he was an ex-soldier in there is so they have something to fall back on if they upset anyone.

Agreed, the media will be all over this shit if word gets around.
It's the Daily Mail, their readership primarily consists of old white people (the racists) and the far right conservatives who believe that death by hanging should be brought back immediately. Honestly guys and gals we dont have to worry about a thing, this is an English newspaper whose 'news' broadcasting skills are....well....futile at best.

There's a time and a place to act out your gaming rage, it's called Youtube.

But really, what else is there to be said? Gaming causes a great deal of rage in many people, but then so does driving a car. Though gaming usually gets the short end of the stick.

Oh dear god... We're all doomed. This story was in the Daily Fail which means that around 2,100,855 people Britain have read it. The Daily Fail is one of the worst gay bashing, ethnic minority hating, monarch loving, fascist humping, sensationalist piece of bullshit rag we have for sale in the UK and they absolutely LOVE stories like this, 'Society is going to hell because we have too many immigrants and they sell our children violent videogames that turn them into rapists and murders who don't want to watch the Queen's Speech at Christmas. Quickly, we must resurrect Princess Diana and use her to conquer Europe!'

The kind of people who read the Daily Fail are like people in America who watch Fox news and think that it's just great.

Lol that is your justification? Really? And yes I do have a hypersensitivity to blatant ignorance. Sorry if that offends you.
Dude, relax. Come on.

It is usually the videogames that get blamed by the meida in these situations, no matter what has happened in the person's life... I was merely pointing out that there could be other causes, one of them being the possibility of the trauma that lots of people in the military go through.

Now, before you jump down my throat again, know that I have good friends in the military and some of the stories I've heard are what inform my opinion here.

It would also be entirely unsurprising to see games blamed given that the newspaper that published the story has a colourful history of showing a very strong anti-gaming agenda, in particular towards Rockstar who made GTA:

He loses one save file and flips his lid. I lost an entire memory card worth of saves once upon a time and all I did was shed a manly tear. Hours of my life gone, yes, but they're still video games, and to be honest, you can cheat your way through them if you lose a save file. Actually, losing a save file gives me an excuse to rip out the old action replay and mess around. It doesn't give me an excuse to beat up kids, however. Not cool.

Why is it irrelevant? It is what it is. Once gamers can stop being ashamed about it we will probably have an easier go against real enemies like that rapist ***** or the lawmakers that want to censor it.

First of all I am sure that it wasn't Grand Theft Auto that encouraged this inhumane act of violence. This guy is obviously some coward dick head who couldn't refrain from beating up his girlfriends kid. Now dont get me wrong, I would be pretty pissed off if my GTA save file was deleted, as i'm sure you guys would, but to put an 8 year old in a coma? This guy should be shot, repeatedly.

Now, news articles like this put a bad reputation on gamers, and the developers of such games. Forever in a day this 'media vs gamers/publishers' argument will be discussed.

What are your thought's on this, guys?

If we're talking about brutal punishments then I dunno what would be best. Hammer his hands and fingers into a sludge so they become barely usable after healing or go all execution on him. If blood types match between him and the kid (not likely but it's possible) then might aswell kill off the guy and transplant the organs when the kid is old enough.

Hey let's do the latter AND break the fingers.

I guess my post doesn't really help the whole "games make people violent" argument, but I am only violent in thought. Have never beaten up anyone ever (nor have I been beaten for that matter).

Well, it IS irrelevant. Yes, the game is violent. It's also sold in a plastic case. Shall we mention that, next time? If they'd have put "...accidentally deleted his profile which was seven hours into the game's story line", they'd have been slated for advocating his behaviour. So that would be relevant, because it helps us tell just how seriously he took it, and how it affected his reaction.
It's journalism. Every word they use is specifically designed to provoke a response. Nobody's ashamed that the game's violent, I just can't understand why they felt it necessary to point out that it's violent. The only reason they would do that is to tell everyone that the game was violent, therefore the violent reaction was caused by the game's content.

Hold on I see a pattern here 99.9% of people who have ever commited a crime have read a newspaper at some point in their lives!!! If I were to use the same reasoning that the tabloids do it is easy to deduse that Newspapers cause crime.....

Shocker, I hate the papers especially in this country. They are too willing to jump on a story and twist any facts to make a point that isn't there.

I don't blame GTA or the fact that he's an ex-soldier. He's just kind of an asshole. Yes, that can happen. Surprise surprise, humans have free will.

I hope this guy spends the rest of his life behind bars. Anyone that permanently cripples an eight year old child over something so small has no place in society.
