This is pretty much a nostalgia thread. What games from Gamecube, PS2, Xbox and maybe even older consoles are fantastic even if played today? And why?

For me:

1. Simpson's Hit and Run: hilarious, well designed sandbox game with a brilliant story. It was just great fun to play.

2. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger: Australian themed, this game had nice graphics and well designed levels. I loved having a boomerang as a weapon with different abilities (fire, ice, etc). I just love this game.

3. Pokemon Colloseum: (and XD) totally different to the standard pokemon formula, with proper 3D and an immersive storyline, not starting with a standard grass/fire/water type but an awesome umbreon and espeon. AND all battles were double battles which made battles way more tactical.

In fact, I'm tempted to replay some of these games now! Aaah nostalgia...

These are all titles I own from my collection :D

NES:
Contra - It's a run and gun, and possibly the most popular game featuring the Konami Code
Gauntlet - an arcade port of a top-down adventure game, which supports two player multiplayer and has always continued to be very enjoyable with its monster spawns.
Super Mario Bros. 3
SNES:
Donkey Kong Country 2
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - the vastness of this game, its art style, and its score make it a prime contender for the newest games in the Zelda console series, aging much better than its predecessors.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - high replayability, I actually completed this game 100% for the first time! Collecting all the items is a challenge and the game doesnt lose its charm after 25 years.
Sega Genesis:
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles - Filled with a massive amount of levels and secrets, this would have people still turning heads today (and I only started playing it a few years ago)
Nintendo 64:
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - While not as popular as Ocarina of Time, the intricate clockwork of this game's world make it a wonderful game
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - need I explain what is still hailed as the greatest video game of all time?
StarFox 64 - It's a superb rail shooter
Gamecube:
Metroid Prime - One of the premiere first person shooters, the vastly detailed landscape, amount of secrets, and heavy action, mixed with its scifi undertones make this one of the best first person shooters to date, the likeness of which can't be replaced by warfare games such as COD or MOH.
Resident Evil 0, 1, 2, Code Veronica X - These games are better than RE4 and 5 as far as the story, scare, AND art factors go. The fixed camera gameplay is really what made the series and I hope they return to it again.
PS2:
ICO - as a testament to artistic games, this is a definite solid game. You would think its linear, "repetitive" gameplay gets stale, but the amount of puzzle solving in the traversing of a massive castle to save a beautiful girl prevents this game from ever going stale.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - I appreciate how they worked the entire game into the Cold War and integrated footage from that time period. For a Kojima game, this is probably one of the best to date (though I still must play MGS4.) I will admit, I cried at the end. It was that amazing.
Shadow of the Colossus - See ICO

Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast. That was probably the last great Sonic game and, for its time, it had some of the best graphics you could get back in 1999! :D

Buy it just for the music alone!

Oh god, Ty the tasmanian tiger, must play that again. Other excellent games I'd say would be the ratchet and clank series.

Well there are a lot that I could list so I'm gonna keep it simple.

PS2: Shadow Hearts (2): Covenant

I'm playing through it for the first time at the moment about 10 hours in and it's brilliant. Has quite a bit of humour, gorgeous graphics for the PS2 and the aesthetics are great. The setting is unique, it's set during the time of World War 1 in Europe but it's not actually based on historical fact instead, opting to have a whole fantasy plot set in the time period.

One of the great things is so far there hasn't been any grinding. I purely go from point A to B and I find that I'm plenty strong enough for the next boss without having to go back and grind. It may change later in the game but, judging from the previous game, I probably won't.

I'm enjoying the battle system and customizing the Judgement Ring. I also like how the game keeps track of all your stats, how many battles each character has been in, how many times the Judgement Ring has been used and how many times you failed etc. The fact that it's packed onto 2 discs also feels great instead of the usual 1.

Overall, it's a fantastic game that I'm really glad I purchased. Got it for $50 earlier this year and I feel like it's definitely worth it. (it's more expensive since it's a 'rarer' title.)

As for Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, I've been meaning to pick this up since I used to have the demo on a demo disc for the PS2 and really enjoyed it but, since lost it.
