fan boys get this, if a big franchise like mgs, bioshock, mass effect, or ff goes mulitplatform it isn't because a big company bought it out. (although that may happen) it's mostly because you can make more money on multiple consoles, so if you spend millions making something, you want every one to buy them. GET OVER IT FANBOYS! plus i want to play all good games, so multiplatform is good.

please note, i'm not talking about first party titles, duh.

I sense a great storm coming....
And yes multiplatform is good, BUT each console is different and I'd rather have one large development team working on a single platform, than that same team broken up to work on each platform.

Obviously it's not more profitable to release it on all the consoles or else that's what would be happening. Game publishers aren't stupid, they go where the money is. Either a console maker is paying them enough to keep exclusivity, or recoding the game for another console would be too expensive.

but then instead of going for great they can settle for mediocre
there are many multiplatform games that rock with out compromise. HELLO portal, and COD 4

Here comes the flame war, I'll be in the bunker if you need me, making a home to survive the oncoming apocalypse caused by marauding trolls.

Seriously yes, if there were less exclusives there would be less fandom so therefore less troll and therefore less flame wars, like the one I am hiding from.

Excuses are excuses.
Negating "real" hardware limits i see no real reason for exclusives.

Excluding experiments that just won't work (RTS on consoles, for instance,) I agree - exclusives suck.
Actually the PS3 supports USB mouse and keyboard for playing games. So an RTS for it is very playable.
so does xbox, and i think the wii too, if i'm properly informed. no disrespect, but i refuse to let your post be flamebait.

Well apparently one reason that is NOT about money, it is easier and better for the game to be an exclusive so they can be better tailored to the system, thus look better and work better.

And without exclusives, the PS3 would have failed completly. Without FF and MGS, then many more would have gone with the 360 instead. Ofcourse, as the 360 is not a virgin to FF and MGSR is coming to the 360, then it may officially win. Yes, it will actually win. 360 vs PS3 and 'wars' between these ultimatly are bound to an eternal stalemate, or atleast never have an actual winner what is to decide that?

Maybe I am wrong, who knows. I mostly say this to point it out. I am pro-360, and though I am not dying over not playing the PS3 exclusives, I would most definatly get MGS4 and Resistance if they were on the 360.

Portal was part of the Orange Box (was never sold separately to consoles) and I must say, after playing the console version of OB and the PC version, PC version is leaps and bounds better. Not to say Portal shouldn't be known as one of the greatest games ever. Just as a side note, if you can develop it for PC you can easily make it for the 360. Recently (can't remember who), a developer called the 360 a dumb computer. Apparently it takes more work to do things on the Wii (weird huh) and PS3 because their architecture is screwy.

Why not just take it one step farther, and have Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony all make a system together, split the profits 1/3 to each. That way companies would just have to learn how to make games on one System, maybe two including PC. Exclusives gone, no need to worry about buying three consoles.

Developers/publishers pocket much of the difference between what they'll make with their exclusive title and what it would have made multi-platform as payment from Sony/Microsoft/Big N. If it's a popular enough title, the exclusivity of it will sell hardware. You don't own an XBox but a title you really want to play is only coming out for it, it could be the deciding factor in persuading you to buy the console. Why on Earth would you think customers have any control over what developers decide to do with their titles? Blame console manufacturers and developers, not the fan base.

That isn't to mention of course games actually published by Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo themselves. Why would Microsoft ever want Halo to be on the playstation?

This is spot on, though I would change "not more profitable" to "not always more profitable".

Oh and to add, perhaps us 360 fanbois *really* don't want your PS3 or Wii rubbish exclusives. No really, keep them. ;-)
