Imagine a world without exclusives -> the only way that would truly work is if every console had roughly the same control schemes and the same graphical power. Soon, as there would be no reason to buy more than one console, one of the console manufacturers would take over -> whichever one could build the cheapest console, offer the best online service etc.

Exclusives will happen, fact. But it would be nice if they didn't, barring hardware barriers (for example, you're not going to see Warioware - Smooth Moves on PC, or Starcraft 2 on Wii).
good argument but that is called a monopoly
It wasn't my arguement; I accidently posted it before adding my own views. :p
i got rid of your stuff and just posted on his

yea exclusives suck. but there always going to happen. but i think eventually the exclusives on the lower consoles end up coming to the most popular due to them loosing out on cash. thats the reason mgs rising is coming to xbox, because kajima is missing out. more people own a 360 so think of all the extra money he could make?

Non-exclusivity is not possible - no way in hell a Wii can handle something like MAG.

This is one of the few cases where I tolerate exclusivity; you bought a machine that's sub-par in capabilities, you can't ***** when it won't handle top-spec.

Too bad they whine anyway, claiming good graphics as the devil and anyone who doesn't have a Wii as a heretic.

Again a flaw of being a biased Nint-er, any console fanboy.

I think the quality of the industry would suffer if exclusives were gone. I remember something along the lines of "Innovation walks hand in hand with competition". Exclusives are essentially that innovation, giving one product an edge over another. A removal of exclusives would mean that high-quality exclusives would become mediocre multi-platforms, with developement times increasing as the dev force is divided, leading to games that vary in production quality according to which console it was on (similar to apparent gameplay problems on the PC port of GTA4).

I've noticed a few people wanting the three first-party companies to develop some kind of "super-console". Whilst wishful thinking should be promoted, such an idea could spell the start of an oligopoly, as all game devs would produce for just that console, removing competition and thus removing the incentive to innovate. This lack of innovation could lead to a bad spell of uninspireing games.

By the by, I don't think no exclusives would necessarily mean no fanboys. I can tell even now, before the 8th gen of consoles are on shelves, someone is going to claim that the one he preordered is going to be better than the one some other bloke is getting.

There will always be first-party exclusives but third-party exclusives are dieing and nearly dead. This is great for the indusrty because is forces Msoft Sony and Nintendo to be more innovative with their first-party titles and it also forces them to come up with new innovations for their own consoles.

fan boys get this, if a big franchise like mgs, bioshock, mass effect, or ff goes mulitplatform it isn't because a big company bought it out. (although that may happen) it's mostly because you can make more money on multiple consoles, so if you spend millions making something, you want every one to buy them. GET OVER IT FANBOYS! plus i want to play all good games, so multiplatform is good.

please note, i'm not talking about first party titles, duh.
Sorry, I may be a fanboy, but I believe in competition. Exclusives are what makes games better in the long run. I'm sorry if you're mad that you have to buy another console just to play a game, you don't have to play every game. After all, they are just games. This applies to both first and third party titles.

Exclusives are a good thing. They are, in this current climate, the only real way of pushing a consoles true power and seeing what it can do. Yeah it gives the fanboys something argue about but let's face it

- Exclusives have been about since the start of console wars, if you're not man enough to deal with the fact that your console may not get that game you want then either get a better paid job or just grow up, life's tough deal with it.
- Fanboys have been about just as long and will argue about the colour of their console, at least software gives them something that can actually be debated and isn't total stupidity.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: from a technical standpoint, exclusives have a major advantage in terms of optimization and bug management. I much prefer working on console exclusive titles to working on PC titles / cross-platform because I can guarantee what specs the end user is going to have. Cross-platform porting isn't the easy process of flipping a switch and recompiling that armchair developers seem to like to think it is.

What we need is Microsoft to die in a fire ...
Unless you're an idiot, this is what we want. Sony goes, gaming as art goes with them. Microsoft goes, gaming as art gets stronger. Very simple.
What is gaming as art? And why does only Sony make this art? You may try and make it sound as simple as dualism but that is not the truth but only the illusion that is put forth by people with such bias as yourself.

But, without exclusives, what would the fanboys froth at the mouth for, and viciously defend? We'd be taking away there purpose! We need scapegoats and idiots to laugh at!

I apologize to any or all fanboys who took offense.

I also apologize to any or all fanboys who are impervious to sarcasm.

If you bought the wrong system then that's your fault. Get a second job so you can buy a different console.
