I love exclusives. They make me smile. Even though i will probably never play God of War im okay with it. If the companys want to pay extra money so the game is on there console only then thats just good business. Its almost like an auction. The game goes to the highest bidder. Or perhaps devlopers have better relationships with some companies and not others. Or maybe its just easier to make some games for some consoles and not others. I personally dont want to play wii sports or No More Heros on my 360.

Very well, all games must be ported to work on all platforms, including a rock. Of course, this will mean the quality of all games is pretty much nil, but this is irrelevant as the games will be for everyone, so nobody will be able to enjoy them.
I'm fairly sure a rock is not a viable gaming platform.
Fairly sure.
Says who? What makes it a less viable platform for running inFAMOUS than the 360?
true, although i prefer playing FFVII on my rock, the graphics update is just EPIC.

Most of the exclusives are PS3 exclusives because the game development studios are headed by Sony or the game is directly published by them and they have direct involvement in the production.
I hate it if money is spend to keep things exclusive, that's just a dick move, but if the company builds the game up from scratch it's their right to have it on their console.

I digg exclusives, they add character to the consoles. I'm kind of dissapointed that PS3 and Xbox360 are so similar overall because that gives almost no incentive to own both of them. Back in the day we atleast had clear differences in the systems, Wii is the only one doing that.

Why not? It's more interactive than MS new Motionsensor.

Why not just take it one step farther, and have Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony all make a system together, split the profits 1/3 to each. That way companies would just have to learn how to make games on one System, maybe two including PC. Exclusives gone, no need to worry about buying three consoles.
It's brilliant!
The comfort of the 360 controller,The "you-don't-have-to-pay-just-to-play-your-games-online"-ness of the PS3, and the games on the Wii! (Ok, well, at least Madworld)

Fixed that for you. Of course people enjoy the games, what you don't understand is that most people don't really care about the console it's on (unless you really want to shell out a couple of hundred for better graphics on the PS3).

I would love an era of no exclusives to come, but sadly capitalism is at work. It would just give people more incentive to buy the Wii (price), and I'm pretty sure Sony and Microsoft don't want that.

As awesome as not having exclusives would be, we must all still remember that gaming is, like basically everything else, an industry. In order for business to be good, the different gaming companies must compete with each other, and what better way to do that than keep each other out of certain games.

For example, if you're a die-hard PS3 fan, but suddenly an exclusive comes out for the Xbox 360 that really interests you, you won't necessarily go out right away and buy a 360 just for that one game, but it will encourage you to do so. The same goes for any combination of consoles and games.

If there ever comes a time in which only one console exists, then we won't have to worry about exclusives so much.

I vote that all games now be made for the PC. Interfaces will be provided for controllers specific to each and every console. HDMI port will provide the video feed to the HDTV. Gaming PCs will have top-end Sound cards to interface with mega-expensive home theater setups. Stand-alone drives will be developed to allow backwards compatability with previous generations of console through emulation. And to top it all off you also get all of the functionality of a PC.

Viva the PC revolution!

Imagine a world without exclusives -> the only way that would truly work is if every console had roughly the same control schemes and the same graphical power. Soon, as there would be no reason to buy more than one console, one of the console manufacturers would take over -> whichever one could build the cheapest console, offer the best online service etc.

Exclusives will happen, fact. But it would be nice if they didn't, barring hardware barriers (for example, you're not going to see Warioware - Smooth Moves on PC, or Starcraft 2 on Wii).

Excluding experiments that just won't work (RTS on consoles, for instance,) I agree - exclusives suck.
Actually the PS3 supports USB mouse and keyboard for playing games. So an RTS for it is very playable.
Nobody owns one though. We'll let RTS stick on PC.

In which case what we have at the moment is a oligopoly. But anyway, monopolies are bad for all sorts of reasons, in which case a single console and no exclusives is not a good thing. This was what I was alluding to -> with only one console manufacturer, the quality of games would suffer and prices would rise, until another manufacturer set up shop, with some good quality 'exclusives', and the cycle starts over again.

Effectively, there's enough room in the console market for 2 or 3 manufacturers -> we've seen this. And, all other things being equal, that's the way it will stay. With exclusives.
