Regarding the "it could be worse", here's a slightly random piece of advice to all men: Do not under any circumstances use this phrase to a woman who is currently experiencing uterine cramps. For she will throw something at you.

which is essentially the same as saying "The ends justify the means."
To anyone who has ever said this, I say I fucking hate you. If your actions are wrong in themselves, then nothing else you do is going to make up for that. If you truly must do something you know is wrong/illegal for some greater good, then be prepared to face the consequences and don't make shitty excuses.
