Maybe I just don't "get it", but why is this game so great? The combat looks atrocious, just as it has been in every Elder Scrolls game.

Am I missing something?
Yep.

hey moderator, in response to the bullshit warning, please pay attention: mhm, yup, indeed, definetly, completely. is that enough short answers for you?
Dude...
Not cool. Not cool at all.
On topic: I saw the 2-part thing on YouTube (the video linked here doesn't work for me) and it looks amazing.
The combat looks immersive, the skill thing with the constellations is quite an interesting concept, and the overall feel of the world seems like it has a fair amount of depth to it.
Hopefully the AI isn't pants-on-head retarded this time around, but the Radiant AI they talked about seems to have fixed that apparently.

I wasn't that impressed by the combat either, but I think that it's mostly because it wasn't showcased well. There was almost no blocking and they could have attacked way faster.

I'm all about magic, so the new casting mechanics have me pretty excited.

Anyone else extremely put off by the whole "entertainment news" vibe of E3 and gaming shows in general? I understand gaming is a multi-billion-dollar industry at this point, and that you can't have that kind of money without all kinds of glossy beautiful people trying to sell you on shit, but it still makes me uncomfortable to watch these clips.

I don't know. I'm cautiously optimistic. I loved Morrowind but have generally detested to been lukewarm to everything they've brought out since. Bethesda's most recent games do absolutely nothing for me. I do, however, loooove me some Vikings and this game doesn't look terrible. It looks like it at least has a little character which is something Bethesda is just awful at injecting into games.

I'll be giving it a shot, I'm just worried I'll be wasting my money like I did on Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I'm impressed by the gameplay. The swords, arrows, and magic have all been improved considerably. I was planning to make a mage, thinking that magic would be improved more than swords, but now I can't decided because they've both been brought up several ranks.

Also, as a guy who prefers Fallout 3 to Oblivion, I'm very excited to see what Fallout 4 will look like on this engine. On the other hand, I'm worried that I won't finish Mass Effect 1 & 2 before Skyrim comes out and eats all of my free time.

Oh, and for blaize2010:

Look, your first post was cleverly dismissive, but it did break the low-content posting rule. You might have appealed, but instead you'll pick up 3 warnings for a 3-word post. No one wants to read short posts followed by mod sass.

Excuse me for being cynical but it looks good, sure, but its Bethesda and an Elder Scrolls game so its too be expected at this point. But, they missed out on some really important questions that, in my opinion, has plagued the Elder Scroll series, like:

Will the dungeons be less lack luster? Considering over half of the Oblivion dungeons took place in either Oblivion gates or Underground, the same looking underground caves mind you. Sure, they are called dungeons for a reason but it doesn't mean it has to be in a giant cave.

or

Will it be easier to find side questions or find more things to actually do with out having to look them up on line or something? Sure, following the main quest is easy enough but unless you took a pot shot and talked to someone who so happened to have a quest, they where neigh impossible to find sometimes. Unless it was like a well known faction, like Warriors or Mages guild for example.

Also, some dialog changes would be nice. Hell, you can even flow that in with finding side quests pretty easily. Example being " is looking for someone to help them, I'll go ahead and mark where they are on your map."

Oh, and more landmarks or places of intrigue would be great instead of walking for 40 minutes with out finding a single thing except for trees, rocks, and caves.

If these are going to addressed then this will be a day one buy for me, if not, I'll pass. Fallout 3 didn't exactly wow me so it will take a lot.

Charming use of putting what you said under my name there.
Almost makes it look like you're the good guy in this.
Also, I'm not a moderator, as much as I'd like to be.
EDIT: Also, to bring something else to this:
Did anyone notice the jibe about the horse armour in there?
It was certainly a nice touch to add to the interview.

I lol'd at the horse armor comment.

This trailer didn't really have anything new, and I am still pissed at how the guy playing the demo doesn't seem to understand how to use a fucking shield, AND they still haven't gone in depth about the stealth gameplay, but damn am I excited!

"Skyrim gives players over 16 miles of land to cover"

Can that be true? From my house to the centre of London is 5 miles and it takes me roughly an hour to walk every day at a very brisk pace (i.e. a pace slightly slower than a full run with a speed attribute of 30 on Oblivion). By this logic, to walk from one end of the map to the other would take roughly three hours.

I'm guessing they're referencing to land that's both indoors and out. I wonder what the actual game map's size is.

EDIT: Rough quotes below:

"Guardian stones are this new thing" No they aren't, they're Doomstones renamed.

"That horse doesn't have any armour right now". I laughed. Todd quickly sped them on.

"The game has a living economy, you can participate..."
"So I can change the economy"
"Kinda, it's more of a light touch" Good, they've stopped promising the world only to have their claims quickly disproved at launch.

"Do enemies level with you?"
"We've done it differently in every game, this time it's more like FO3; there's harder zones and some random harder enemies in each zone" So we won't see any more Bandits at level 20 with full Daedric armour? I hope not. That made no sense.

Actually, due to there being huge mountains to be climbed it should take longer than simply strolling in a straight line.

True, but that'd mean the world would take even longer than three hours to traverse from end to end. Admittedly, that map they showed was pretty frickin' bitchin', but I can't see it being a 3 hours or more traversal time... Although you can damn well bet that I'm hoping it is.

Love this series.

Looks good. I can't wait for this game.

I wanted to make a comment on the combat. Think about this for a second. The character they are using is a Demo Character. A character they used in their trailers and one to use for their demo at E3. I bet they have even been using him while testing the game.

So it may be possible that the character is a er higher level. This is just my assumption. Don't quote me on exactness of my statement. I'm just saying. Or they played on the easiest setting just so they could show off the game.

Either way 11/11/2011 I'm going to get this game. And there is Thanksgiving holiday. So yall know what I'm going to do.

I KEEP THROWING MY WALLET AT THE SCREEN BUT NOTHING HAPPENS
Maybe you and I should team up, track down Todd and throw our wallets at him instead? Maybe if we empty our accounts, cash them to pennies and throw those pennies at him like an avalanche he'll give us the game?!
