FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. Allison was told it's a "pre-existing condition" due to some shoulder issues she had while swimming in college.
Just goes from bad to worse, never mind drawing is her source of income. I hope she gets the money she needs.[/quote]

Not sure if this has been responded to yet, but the insurance company can do that.

I actually had a friend who was in a high school swimming team (And she was really good), but it tore up all of the tendons in her right shoulder. (Or something. I think it was the tendons.) Can't ever swim competitively again...very sad.

So, yeah, it's kind of a dick move on their part, but probably legal.

What the hell kind of crap-tastic insurance do you people have there? They might not reimburse because it was a pre-existing condition? I had a foot disorder build up over the years that suddenly flared up and caused me great pain. Was I not supposed to get money because it had never bothered me before (and thus never noticed).

Allison, when you make it through all this, please switch insurances. And the best of luck to you and Extra Credits.

If our goal was $20,000 and we have $29,000 what happens to the excess? There's no worthy cause anymore if the bills are paid.

On the last episode of Extra Credits you may have noticed Allison was wearing a caste, well it's worse than we thought.

Over the last year we've built up a web series talking about game design and the positive impact that games can have on humanity. We've used it to get people looking more deeply at videogames and thinking about what they can take away from their games and add to their lives.

Yesterday Allison, our artist, found out she needed major shoulder surgery if she's going to be able to continue to do art. Each show costs us far more than we make off of it; we've spent most of our reserves building Extra Credits and are now trying to give what we can to help Allison cover the cost of her surgery. We need to raise somewhere between $15,000-$20,000 to help her get surgery and hire guest artists for the next few months, otherwise we can't keep doing the show.

Help us fix the tiny pink bean so she can keep chasing us with a pencil...and please, please help us save Extra Credits.

(If you donate, you will recieve all the rewards up through the level you donated at, so don't worry, if you donate $100 you'll recieve access to the episode, a tee-shirt, a publisher's club membership and other cool stuff.)
So please, if you have the money please donate and help save Extra Credits.

Edit: It's with great pride that I say James has reached his goal of $15,000 and only in a matter of hours. However, Allison's insurance is playing the "pre-existing condition" card so it might cost more than he intended. If you have the money to spare the crew can still put it to good use.

But I would like to say that I'm extremely proud of our community where even though we have our problems we help each other during times of need. Thankyou to all who donated and may still donate.

Edit 2: At time of writing we've raised $29,011 and the money just continues to roll in (Can we reach 30,000 before the hour is up? The race is on!). I know Allison will appreciate everything we've done but I speak for myself when I say thankyou to everyone who donated money to keep this amazing show on the web. YOU GUYS ROCK!

And of course a big thankyou to the person who donated a full $5000, have fun hanging out with James.
I am sad that its that bad for Allison, but I am very happy that the internet will donate to this lovely bunch,to bad I cant donate, because we dont use Dollars here :( really sorry you guys, and also I wish the hole Extra credits crew a big good luck and get well soon! :D

James has said any excess would either help buy back all the equipment he pre-emptively sold (He had no idea the responce would be this massive or this swift) and/or he will donate it all to charity.

Woah... major kudos to the guy who donated 5000!

ps, America's healthcare system can go fuck itself up the ass. If you right-wing people didn't keep screaming the word "socialist" like its a dirty word, the country would be in a much better situation.

I cannot describe how proud I am to be a member of such a wonderful community.
You and me both, mate. The Escapist has the best gaming community on the internet.

OT: I really want to donate, but I can't, as I'm low on money myself. I hope you get better Allison. And kudos to all people who donated/will donate.

My God, that is an insane amount for surgery. I really hope it all goes well. I can't believe that insurance would cover so little of it as to have that much left over to pay. At least you won't have any nagging leftover bill like the rest of us shmucks would have to deal with for the rest of our lives. Goes to show how valued the show is to the community.
Welcome to Healthcare in America, *sigh*. Best of wishes to Allison, get better soon chere EC just isn't the same without your art style.

Rich in character yes, yes they are. Money comes and goes it is replaceable, people are not.

No no no. No. This simply will not do. Your artist will be fixed.

Or, so help us, we will bury you under a pile of money and good wishes.

Best of luck to the pink bean!

I'd still like to know what will happen to the remainder of the money after surgery and guest artists, I'm all for good causes but we've exceeded the requested amount so surely it's time to discuss the rest.
He said something about using the rest on the show, or donating it to charity on his Facebook.

To be honest I'd rather they kept the excess money, at least just until they're certain there will be no unforeseen/additional costs that they haven't accounted for yet.

Also they had to sell off some of their equipment initially to try to muster the money (I'm guessing they didn't imagine they'd hit 28k so quickly), so maybe they could buy some of that equipment back.

Either way, I'm sure they will put the money to good use, either for Allison, for the show or to a charity (possibly done by a mass vote, possibly one related to gaming i.e. childs play).

I'm glad they had a Paypal setup so I was able to donate.
Ahh right that's cool then, couldn't see it anywhere myself and wanted to see if thought had been given to it, originally from the UK and too many times this stuff has been taken advantage off, not that I'm pointing a finger of course, and been unable to check facebook, I think due to the storm that's happening here right now.
