I mostly like the FEAR series for the action, if I wanted scares I'd play Condemned. However having it be co-op opens up new opportunities to innovate the horror genre, I'm not keeping my hopes up on that though.
I'm still looking forward to the game. The fact that Day 1 is developing it does concern me though, I love Monolith!

Am at a loss for words. I always see everyone here preaching how games have no creativity. Fear 3 trys somthing diffrent and now everyone hates it.

At least it wasn't called F3EAR.
I wouldn't be able to resist the urge to go FYAR FYAR FYAR
The cover art is "F3AR" if that's what you mean. So, yeah...

OT: I've played neither previous FEAR games, though I did download that free multiplayer thing they offered quite a while after the release of the original. That was fun, and one of the only online games I've ever been even remotely good at, so I imagine the original game was even better, as there's actual horror involved.
Wait, oh god, they actually called it that!? Nooooooo!
This is worse than DRIV3R!
And you can also wait for the inevitable "F.E.4.R." haha

I thought this was just some random hate thread about FEAR 3, but this does sound pretty bad. If what you're saying is true. Do you have a link to the article in question?

Well, I liked F.E.A.R. 2. Although I never found ANY of the games scary.

I love them for the combat.

I should really play the F.E.A.R games, they look like they would make a good rental for a night of horror.

WHAAAA? Gosh darnit.

If you remember the first demo of fear 2 being played at E3 or something, that was amazing. it used the same gun and blood effects along with pretty much the same engine. It would have been good if they didnt muff up the effects engine. they took the nice feel of kinetic impact out.

But jeez, I am kinda bummed now. I was hoping they would rock out with their weiners out for this game.

BTW: This is what I am talking about. Note the differences in the gun fights. Dont fix what aint broken

Is that..really such a bad thing?
I haven't exactly kept up with things particularly well but I don't see anything that forces you to play with another person. If the solitude is what you desire then just..don't play Co-op?
As far as I am concerned putting in co-op simply adds more play value to the game, the idea of controlling Paxton's spirit is incredibly more interesting than simply throwing in an additional generic gun-man.

People are hypocrites, this is a fact.

Personally I think it's a great idea especially seeing as how Fettel apparently has objectives that don't run parallel to the Point Man's and players can choose to be a complete and uttter bastard in that respect. It's not like it's going to be split-screen play from what I'm gathering, rather something played through a system link or online, so you're not going to know for sure what your buddy is up to. Sure they have to work together, but only up to a point, again this is just from what I gathered from the article in Game Informer.

I just read a huge preview of F.E.A.R. 3 and it has effectively killed any expectations I had of the game.

It has co-op campaign.

This in itself will mean the scares are even less frequent than in F.E.A.R. 2, but it gets worse...

Player 2 plays as Paxton Fettel. That's right... a ghost. And he can't shoot. Nope. He sees the world in a wierd red haze, can find hidden stuff and possess bodies for a few seconds.

Honestly, the game is off my 'might buy' list now.

Did people enjoy F.E.A.R. 2? Can you imagine the game with co-op, and do you think it's a good or bad thing?

And for discussion's sake... what games had really good co-op campaigns?
If they make co-op crazy hard then It could be good, otherwise, fuck it.
Perfect Dark Zero had a decent co op campaign, as did Area 51 on PS2(I know, everyone hated it).
The best co-op campaign by far though, goes to Resistance 2. It really is just pure awesome.

rental time..
i liked the first, was quite a tense game at times, didn't mind the expansions that much either. FEAR 2 though.. they lost the fucking plot.

So, an extra feature makes you not buy the game?

Makes sense.
One of the reasons people loved the first game was the horror factor, which won't be present if co-op is there.

Read the rest of the replies before you make smart-ass, annoying comments.

I read the other comments, and am unconvinced that co-op and horror are mutually exclusive.

And even if they are, I imagine that the co-op campaign would differ slightly (or majorly) from the single player campaign (unless the devs lack common sense, or time, or will, probably all three).

Do I have permission to make smartass, annoying comments now?

I thought F.E.A.R. 2 was 'bleh'. Especially the story. So I have very little expectation for the third game... I quite enjoyed the first one though.

I wish Monolith would make another No One Lives Forever game... :(
