So, an extra feature makes you not buy the game?

Makes sense.
One of the reasons people loved the first game was the horror factor, which won't be present if co-op is there.

Read the rest of the replies before you make smart-ass, annoying comments.
I read the other comments, and am unconvinced that co-op and horror are mutually exclusive.

And even if they are, I imagine that the co-op campaign would differ slightly (or majorly) from the single player campaign (unless the devs lack common sense, or time, or will, probably all three).

Do I have permission to make smartass, annoying comments now?
No, not on my thread. I prefer your well thought out and intelligent posts like that one.

Co-op and horror are not mutually exclusive, that's true. But from my experience (and most would agree), a second player or AI partner helping you works as detriment to the scare factor.

For example: Resident Evil 5. Sheva basically ruined Resident Evil for a lot of fans.

Who the heck wants to be a ghost that does nothing? Good luck on finding Co-op partners
He does a lot more than "nothing". He can stun enemies and possess them (thus taking on their abilities), he can suspend an enemy in mid-air. He can go places the Point Man can not, find areas the Point Man can not, and that's only what I know from the Game Informer article. Again people are really trying to downplay the fact that Fettel is going to play a lot differently from the Point Man, but in a good way.

To RE5's credit, it's hard to believe that it was trying to go for the horror feel anyways.

And now that I think of it, F.E.A.R. isn't exactly "hardcore horror" either. I didn't find much of the game to be all that scary, just tense. Like Fallout 3 at night. I'll admit, it does try, and maybe they can use the co-op for some masterfully designed two person scares (Imagine the doppelganger scenario! This would only work over a LAN/internet connection, but that would make for intense moments, where your "teammate" suddenly possesses you and tries to throw you into a dangerous area...)

True, I think Resi 5 was going for a more Gears of War style experience as opposed to the survival horror of old.

F.E.A.R. scared the shit out of me once or twice... remember that scene on the ladder?

I just can't imagine it being in any way effective with another person there. (though it did scare the living shit out of my GF when I made her play that section hehe)

Wow really?

Its really damn hard to create fear when your with someone else. Not impossible, but damn hard. And after FEAR2, I don't think they can do it. In the second they turned the encounters into quicktime events, which killed any fear they could have given.

This is just stupid.

As for the discussion, Gears and Halo have really fun co-op.

The co-op idea of F.E.A.R 3 sounds terrible. I will not be scared with a partner. I will giggle and laugh at the scares. The ghost idea sounds like a separate game entirely :S

Saints Row 2 is the best example of a co op game ever. You could split up, have your own customized car. Both characters had their own cutscenes etc. Amazing.

Was anyone actually scared by FEAR 1/2 enough so that a reduction of the fear via a co-op partner would ruin the game? The first two games were so hilariously BAD that a co-op partner to laugh at them with would actually improve the experiance for me. This announcement has actually put the game on to my 'might buy' list.

I am going to buy it regardless. I'm one of those people who MUST know what happens in a series. The only thing I didn't like about FEAR 2 was that it left everything from FEAR out in the cold. I'm hoping they explain what happened to the Point Man and his team (of course, that will leave me wondering about Becket and the others). Plus, I want to see if I'm right about Genieve or however you spell her name. I think she's Alma's mother. Why else would Alma leave her alone when she had the perfect chance for revenge?

Good co op, in my opinion, is any game with co op. I love playing with, not against, other people.

The co-op's a terrible idea, but there is a simple way to avoid it ruining things. Don't play it.

As for your other questions, yes, I did enjoy F.E.A.R. 2. It wasn't as scary as the first one, but still a good game.

And, as already mentioned, Timesplitters: Future Perfect had amazing co-op.

I'm hesitant about the game after FEAR 2. The game wasn't bad, it just wasn't in my mind as good as the first. FEAR 3 is on my radar and I'm gonna have high hopes for it but I'm unsure about buying it. It isn't about including coop or not, I just felt a little burned after the second game.

I never buy the 'if you don't like it don't play it' argument, especially concerning sequels.

Thing is, people want to see the story through but are afraid they might be wasting thier money on a dud product that isn't much fun.

Well, yes, if the whole thing's crap then they wasted their money. But if it's one optional feature (in this case a co-op campaign ALONG WITH a single-player campaign) that they don't like, no one's forcing them to use that feature, so it doesn't change the experience at all.

I think a coop campaign where the two players are radically different instead of clones of each other could potentially be really cool. It would make a game like F.E.A.R. less scary but I don't like scary videogames anyway..

The whole series when to hell when Vivendi lost the rights to it, so I can't say I'm surprised. Disappointed, yes, but not surprised.

I loved FEAR 1. I have only tried FEAR 2 on demo, and FEAR 3 might not be a buy for me.

I just think the graphics in FEAR 1 was the best; the most unique, the feel was Gawd.
Than it got less and less scary in FEAR 2... : (

WHAAAA? Gosh darnit.

If you remember the first demo of fear 2 being played at E3 or something, that was amazing. it used the same gun and blood effects along with pretty much the same engine. It would have been good if they didnt muff up the effects engine. they took the nice feel of kinetic impact out.

But jeez, I am kinda bummed now. I was hoping they would rock out with their weiners out for this game.

BTW: This is what I am talking about. Note the differences in the gun fights. Dont fix what aint broken

After
Ah, thanks for reminding me of yet another reason I hate Project Origin:

The glowy effect that surrounds your enemies when you engage SlowMo. Bloody hell, that was just not aesthetically befitting for visceral combat.

Also, at least the original FEAR's gore was awesome because it didn't happen all the bloody time. Too much of a good thing can turn it into a bad thing.

I really hope they scale the gore back to its original levels and kill the glowy effect. If they do, it'll go a long way towards making the combat far more visceral again.

Yeah, it's what I'll do before its condemned.

Tbh I still haven't gotten around to playing F.E.A.R. 2 yet so I'm sure what that's like either, the demo was alright
Indeed when I heard about condemned for 360 it didn't sound that good, but I tried it and was like woah! it wasn't as bad as it sounded
