I've been playing HL2:EP2 and I'm on the part where you have to takedown the striders with the Magnussons and it has got to be the worst, hardest, most frustrating thing I have ever played in a Half-Life ever or maybe even any shooter. Now don't get me wrong I love Half-Life and Valve and own every one of there games except Portal 2, but this is what makes me what to slap Gabe Newell so hard his eyes switch places. Your supposed to grab Magnussons (the sticky bombs) and launch them at Striders with the gravity gun while hunters shoot at you, they also shoot the bombs, Striders shoot at you and the bombs, the Striders are faster than you, the hunters are much faster than you and guard the Striders, you have to constantly grab the bomb put on the thing on the back of your car drive ALL THE WAY over to FUCKING Strider and then your bomb gets blown the FUCK up and you have to drive all the way FUCKING back and get DAMN bomb.To me that is just frustration in its purest form and it doesn't help when the car you drive is so twitchy that driving it feels like you pulling teeth, and trying to kill hunters feels like I'm lacerating my own genitals with a rusty tin can. I just hope that HL2:EP3 when it comes out in 2045 it will have balanced levels and fights, but what I want to know is what your experience with this level was like and if share the same frustration with me.Oh and I'm playing the 360 version because this is before I had Steam (which is awesome) and therefore cannot use cheats and also I'm on the hardest difficulty.

You're gonna need this!

Good luck, because I expect most people will just see your thread title and tear into you without reading your post first.

I found it to be more annoying then frustrating. I can't recall having nearly the trouble that you did. But I do recall thinking "are we done yet?" more then a few times. The pacing seemed off to me, seemed to take too long.

Well, you've just pushed back Half Life 3 by several decades, I hope your happy.

OT: I've never played HL2: EP2. I actually just came here to make that joke. Sorry OP, wish I could've helped you out more.

Run the Hunters over with your car, use the rocket launcher, use the Pulse Rifle's secondary grenade, crossbow it once then shoot it a few times with the .357, etc.

I've beaten that part several times without the proximity alarms even going off.

Beat it first try on 360, went back on second playthrough and beat it without having any buildings destroyed (for the achievement), gone back and never had an issue playing it.

You have to be smart, quick, and keep an eye on the radar. The more buildings you let get blown up, the harder it is since it destroys the bomb spawn.

Easily the best part in Ep 1 & 2.

I really didn't enjoy that part either, and HL2 is one of my all time top 3 games.

The main problems for me were the shitty car handling and the lack of ammo.

That wasn't one of HL2Ep2's greatest moments, granted. I'm going to have to go back and listen to the dev commentary for that level to see what they had to say about it. Valve is usually so careful about pacing and stuff that I kinda agree the strider battle was a bit of a misstep.

There's an achievement if you can chip away at a Hunter without killing it and then causing another hunter to shoot those weird needles at the first one and killing it.

OT: Yeah, it is bit grindtastic but it's doable. Try and kill the hunters first while leaving the car parked safely away.

That in particular makes the whole mission about 100% easier. Stay in the car, ram all 3 hunters, get out, sticky the strider. Rinse and repeat. The hunters will try to jump out of the way, but with a try or two you'll be able to figure out how to ram them.

No more trouble with hunters blowing up your sticky bombs.

You're supposed to kill the hunters first. Like that guy above said, use the car and the pulse rifle's secondary fire. It takes them out in one hit. Then taking our the striders becomes a breeze.

I actually love this finale, I think it's the best in the wholes series.

It's not that hard and probably one of the best moments in all the half life games. Just kill the Hunters first, running them over is good but so are Shotgun, Magnum and Crossbow. With them gone you can take out Striders with easy.

it was intensely frustrating, gotta say. It took me like... 20 tries to beat that part. But the game was worth it, even though its INTENSELY frustrating at times... or in the original 2 the airboat made me queasy and i could only play for like... 10 minutes before i had to shut it off and lay down...

I really don't see what was so difficult about that part, it just felt slow that's all. At each station there's a spot which teleports bombs to you... And it's not too hard to shoot the hunters.

My most annoying and stupid game moment ever has to be in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 where you have to run from the mortar... It was so stupid on so many levels.

That and the fact that my Wii has a broken scanner.
