Fallout New Vegas cazadores; possibly the least favorite thing about the game. how do people kill them? and what sort of level do they stop being a problem at?

My method is to clip the wings totally which will 'stun' them for a short moment then follow it up with a blow to the head. All done in V.A.T.S, of course.

They're a problem at all levels for me, but when I see them I'll usually

a) avoid them (go around)
b) let my companions kill them
c) snipe from afar, and when they close in I hit em with an assault rifle

I use sniper rifles and shoot them in the head before they spot me. Sneak attacks helped me a lot. Of course this means no VATS since it doesn't work at that distance.

When close, use shotgun and VATS.

Well I'm a complete slacker, so I just switched to "very easy" mode whenever I encountered those buggers.

Go get the M1 Garand/This Machine(look it up, it's easy). That's all I ever need to bring with me around the wasteland. Because I like to travel fast and hit hard from any distance I normally wear a Chinese stealth suit with an M1 Garand, Fully modded sniper rifle, and a Combat Knife. Kill Deathclaws in about 3 hits assuming your using standard ammo. The sniper rifle is for long range and stealth. The Knife is for things to weak to justify my precious .308's.
I play on Very Easy and Hardcore. Very is just more...realistic for me. All it does is make enemies soak more bullets. If it changed there AI then play I'd Very hard for the challenge. All very hard serves to do is waste ammunition in my opinion. Anything more than one .308 to an organic un-immerses me and wastes ammo.

I went unarmed/fisticuffs. I just wander into a pack of them and punch the ever-loving daylights out of the entire swarm, chugging antivenoms when necessary. It works spectacularly well, to the point where I don't find them any more challenging than any other regular enemy.

Then again, I have no idea how you'd actually hit the little buggers with guns.

Old World Blues.

Play through that DLC and you'll laugh the next time you see a Cazador.

Or you could the Dead Money DLC and get the "And Stay Back" perk. Then just grab a riot shotgun and you're all set...for everything!

Cazadores are fast moving but have no DT/DR. Therefore anything with low DAM but high DPS is your friend here. My personal preference is for a flamer with extended fuel tanks, but miniguns work too. Or, as ChupathingyX points out, Old World Blues DLC contains an answer to your problems...

Thump-Thump is what I used for my explosives/unarmed character, just hip-fire that and back up, letting your companions take care of the rest. Other weapons like the Laser RCW, Assault Carbine, most fast firing or high damage weapons will do the trick. Funny thing to note that in the Thorn, when setting up custom matches, Cazadores can wipe the floor with a Deathclaw.

If I see Cazadores before they see me, I start lobbing grenades / explosives. Even if they are not hit directly, the splash-damage is usually enough to cripple wings or antennae, which helps no end.

If they get closer, something like the Assault Carbine or SMG comes in handy. That said, I load up A Light Shining In Darkness (Honest Hearts) with .45 Super ammo (I think you need the Hand-Loader perk to get the recipe) and, like most things, it will make short work of the orange-winged little bastards!

Go for the wings, start Old World Blues DLC as early as possible (level 15+ recommended) - there's a three-level perk available in it that increases cazador damage and an implant (available once you've found the schematic) that increases damage further.

Do save the poison glands, can craft Turbo with them.

Hunting shotgun works a treat. Keep your companions away at all costs if you don't want them to get poisoned. It's a ***** to keep them alive after that.
