Uhh, I've been gaming for quite some time, and I never...ever recall a time where games were bug-free.
Ever.

Could you tell me when this magical time was?

I'm annoyed with the amount of games these days that insist you update your console to play the damn thing.

Games are huge now. You can hardly argue that Super Mario Bros 3 was as complex and intricate as, say, Dragon Age. There are infinite ways to fuck up when programming anything that massive. Believe me, as a computer science major, I've had times where I've found one glitch in my program that exposed a dozen others.

games are more complex these days , and hence have more bugs. plus with developer sceduals they will release when they have to and patch at a later date. back to the original mario or pong very little could go wrong with the limitations at the time

They never happened.

Nowadays the bugs get fixed, in the old days a developer's reaction to bugs was often 'eh, shit happens,'
This is a massive improvement, even if it does mean lots and lots of updates.

The only thing that drives me god damn bonkers is games that you have to go searching for the update for.. I'm looking at YOU battlefield!!!!! AAARRRGGGHHHHH And they don't even host their own updates after some time has passed, if at all. Learn to add an auto updater! Why does it have to be so complicated!?

Well I'm sure there are games from every generation that are bug free (Relatively, at least), but what I'm saying is that games as a whole have always had bugs. There are exceptions to the rule every now and again, but there has never been a period where all games were coming out bug free.

Ahhh it just pisses me off how around 40gb of my ps3 HDD is taken up by "game data utility" and how every oo ill have 15 mins on a game turns into... ahhh another update *put controller down and walk away*.
- by the way this is a big issue for me as 100mb or less takes around 15-20mins to download for me.. my internet connection is fine but download speed is terrible

I'm afraid this time only existed with...Pong, maybe Galaga, and even that's getting out of my age area

Point is : more time is spent on creating useless and shi**y gfx effects than on code optimalization AND making sure game is void of simple logic errors (keycards for 2 px thick doors in all those FPs - damn, i hate it).
"Who cares that our little abomination is full of bugs - just look at those cloud shadows. Man, aren't they great ?"... Sigh ...

I had to work 3 hours because my legal copy suffered from the anti-pirate security measures (I couldn't use grappling hook in 2/3 of the game).

Even Pong had glitches. I remember when the ball went pass a paddle. Also, the game would sometimes wait an hour to give you a point.
