Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer.
I really like the concept of this multiplayer mode, and for a majority of it, it's a lot of fun.
But.
It's also completely full of shit. So many completely nonsensical and utterly game breaking things happen to the point where I cannot even take it seriously anymore.
You're given loads of abilities to defend yourself and to aid you in hunting enemies, too bad nearly every single ability absolutely refuses to work for you and fucks the entire experience up.
Smoke bombs: Makes someone cough and lose control. Great for stopping an assassin while being hunted. Supposed to stop assassinations. The catch? It doesn't. I drop a smoke bomb 3 seconds before someone assassinates me. He effortlessly hammers my face in anyway. Someone else tries it, it seems to work for them nearly every time.
Fireworks: Blinds people and makes NPC's panic. Great for revealing a person hiding in a crowd. Blinded NPC's crouch down, while players are left standing on their own which is a dead giveaway. The catch? It also doesn't work. Seems to be more reliable than other abilities. But I've dropped a firework right in front of a crowd of NPC's, and see one person left standing on his own. I move in to assassinate; surprise! That was an NPC too! Grats for wasting your ability, your time, and getting stunned! The fireworks not doing jack shit was totally my fault right!?
Mute: Fuck this ability. Most unreliable ability in the game. When you pick this ability, the game just laughs at you. It's worked for me probably about 4 or 5 times in the about 100 times I've tried to use it. The rest of the times, I still fucking die.
Or how about Charge. The cheapest self-satisfaction-press-button-to-win-the-game ability to use. Sure it's not too hard to avoid it, but it doesn't change the fact that unless you know for a fact that someone is using it, you're probably going to get fucked over at least once.
Or people standing on rooftops. I run from one end of the building to the other, and someone this guy manages to jump sideways off the rooftop through awnings and clipping through the building itself to kill me. Yeah, that's cool.
I notice a lot of people raging about the gun, but honestly I barely mind it. I never use it unless I need to kill assholes on rooftops in assassinate, and I myself barely ever get killed by it. And it barely awards any points either. At least the gun works, and for the most part is easy and sensible to avoid.
It's not just me either. I play with friends and the same shit happens to them. I've seen random enemy players get fucked over too. I've killed people inside smoke clouds, I've seen someone drop a firework and kill a random NPC that wasn't affected by it. I've been muted yet still able to kill the person who did it.
Sometimes it just seems like the game has no rules. It's broken up the ass and infuriating to play.
When the game actually "works", it's fantastic and one of the best multiplayer experiences in recent years. I still like to play it, but it pisses me off like no other game does.
