has anyone else ever been in this problem is what I'm asking...
I personally don't like or have the time for a facebook just to get it out of the way right now
now the situation

There was a D&D party and I get a phone call
it goes like this

Him: "Dude where were you? Why wern't you at the party we sent out an invite"
Me: "Well I didn't get it"
Him: "Well everyone else did, what the heck?"
Me: "You sent it over facebook didn't you..."
Him: "Yeah why?"
Me: "You know I don't have a facebook"
Him: "Oh, well how the heck was I supposed to contact you then?"
Me: "Maybe call me like you did just now, send me an email, PM me through youtube, the escapist, newgrounds, send me a message though my xbox, steam, wii, you could have even skyped me"

so has anyone else had that happen?

...or are you all on the side that "I should have a facebook"

EDIT: Before anyone ELSE says "how can you have time for D&D and not facebook?!"
I am on vacation this week
all that time I'm not on vacation I won't have time for either

and facebook isn't exactly the type of thing you look at 2-3 times a year
and the spam and flooding of my inbox would become a problem
(plus people would actually call me- to tell me "get on facebook more often!")

I had something very similar happen to me once, only it was with Myspace not Facebook. Din't have Myspace back then, don't have Facebook now. Nothing has changed.

I used to have this problem. I became unaware of many things that pertained directly to me because I wasn't on Facebook. Then I caved in and got one. I guess it's OK. It is a more mainstream and popular way to keep up with your friends, but they should still know that you don't have one, and should make sure that you get information about stuff in other ways since you don't have a Facebook.

Maybe they're trying to coax you into getting one.

I haven't. I'm with you though. I don't believe in facebook for the exact same reasons. It's annoying and i don't have the time to sink into such a massive timesink.

no, got facebook, and check it like email, its not that hard, when it comes to social interaction, one does have to conform to certain norms, and having a facebook page is one of them.

DEAL WITH IT

I have a facebook and I really don't care for it. /shrug
I have a cell phone so if anyone ever needs to get to me they do it through that or just email me if they can't. facebook is a fad of sorts, and it'll become obsolete and replaced by something else in a decade.
If you don't have a Facebook more power to you, it's useless.

I concur.

It's free, its easy, and no-one is making you spend time on it other than to quickly check up on messages / invites etc.

I got one for this reason precisely, so I could stay in contact with people and not get left out such as you have been. It's a no-brainer really, unless you're so stubborn that you refuse to get Facebook for some stupid reason.

You can't spare two minutes to write a status update every three to four weeks?

While I agree with you that one shouldn't have to get facebook in order to receive invites and whatnot, the unfortunate fact of the world we live in today is that you have to if you want to be in the loop. Seriously, I hate having a facebook, but I sucked it up and got one so people could contact me, and you probably should too.

Facebook I find is pretty useful. And most people I know have it, and since I like to hang out with these people it makes sense to find out when we're all going to hang out through a medium that's free.

Really useful for arranging things in a large group since you don't have to use one person in the middle as a go-between.

The only reason I havea facebook is because of shit like this. Sure I got one and went nuts with the apps, but it bored me. Friends won't call for parties, they won't take the extra time out of their lives to send invites. Sadly it's a fact of life. I don't think you should be obligated to have facebook, but I'm forced to have one just as another inbox

That's never happened to me but I can easily see it happening.

The thing I hate the most goes like it:

Girl's status: fml
Comment: What's wrong?????????
Girl: I can't talk about it.

Why tell everyone about it? Oh yeah you're an attention whore.

The only "stupid" reason I can think of is...

My not having on keeps my mom off hers

because she can't understand that her running around clicking every freaking link gets the computer viruses, when my cautious staying on the page dosen't

to her facebook is facebook no matter what she clicks its facebook
and if I were to get a facebook that means it's magically safe for her to do whatever on

but no, I don't need one, I don't want one, I don't have the time (or patience due to the email spam) to have one, and it's NOT A NECESSITY PEOPLE, IT'S A CHOICE!

I have a few of my friends send party invites and whatnot over Facebook and most of the people are ones that don't have any regular contact with me by phone or email so i can accept that.

I've seen that happen way too much... only I'm more of a dick then you

they'll whine about their life SAYING they don't want to be cheered up

then I come along
they whine to me

in about 10 minutes they feel completely awful that they were whining about something so small to someone with such larger problems

...or they just start yelling that "you're poor you're USED to dealing with grief, I'm supposed to have it easy!"

then everyone hates them and stops caring about their problems for being so selfish and stuck up

I will note that it took me forever to figure out what "fml" mean, for awhile I thought it was something like "Friday Morning Live" (due to SNL) or something like that
(mind you I didn't get internet until last year)

GET FACEBOOK.
That would be "get a facebook" not "get facebook" I can't go out and buy the site, and it's not like I DON'T have access to it already.

But hey, when there are 28 ways to contact me, if you're too lazy to send me something instead of just "facebook'ing" it, then you're/it's not worth my time.

UH god I hate that. Or when people post rhetorical questions... stupid. Or when people are like "Sitting down on the couch with the BF to watch some TV, :( he has a cold." Or when people post up song lyrics or something and hope everyone thinks it's their own thoughts. Or people who tell everyone they are on their way to their sisters house... fuck I hate FB.

Now that I think about it, I don't even know why I have a FB, all I really use it for is to talk shit and make fun of people. The only people I am not mean to are the younger people on my friends list, like in high school or younger.
