Screw it. Facebook isn't necessary, email is simpler for that kind of heads up, or even TEXTING. And they have been around for longer. And they still do their jobs perfectly well.
You are free to choose if you want to put your personal data in a social site or not. (Privacy concerns aside).

I jumped on the bandwagon to early for that to happen, but I hardly get on facebook now. I was actually thinking about taking all of the pictures and things off of my facebook and then just letting it sit there forever. It's not like my friends try and contact me on there anyway.
That's what I did back in August. I still pop in for a peep every so often to see how my nieces in NZ are growing up.

I left my e-mail address as my last status update. In three months, I've had no e-mails from any of my 'friends'!
That's probably what would happen to me too. To be honest, I don't want to talk to most of the people I'm friends with on my facebook.

no, got facebook, and check it like email, its not that hard, when it comes to social interaction, one does have to conform to certain norms, and having a facebook page is one of them.

DEAL WITH IT
Get a social website that steals your email addresses to send to spammer sites for them to make cash? Just because all the weak minded individuals are doing it doesn't mean you have to, to be a leader you don't follow the mob mentality, you set yourself apart.

My goodness, people.

Crazy, yet very easy idea and I'm just throwing it out there...
GET FACEBOOK.
That would be "get a facebook" not "get facebook" I can't go out and buy the site, and it's not like I DON'T have access to it already.

But hey, when there are 28 ways to contact me, if you're too lazy to send me something instead of just "facebook'ing" it, then you're/it's not worth my time.
Clearly, you're not worth the time of the people you considered friends either.

Number of times my email addresses have been "stolen" by facebook? Zero.

It's annoying and i don't have the time to sink into such a massive timesink.
You can't spare two minutes to write a status update every three to four weeks?
if that were really all it was then i still wouldn't be able to cause I'd forget (like with my online German work) but that's not it. people expect things everyday. there are people checking every MINUTE cause that IS their LIFE and to be honest that scares me quite a bit.

Facebook is stupid. The only reason I have it is so I can see things people send me on Facebook, because you need to be logged in to see anything. Anyone who only uses Facebook to get in touch with people seriously needs to reevaluate where their priorities are.

I blame your friend for being lazy. No offense but I don't think he needed you that badly if he didn't make it a primary concern to contact you individualy rather then with the group

I have a Facebook page but never actually use it. Social interaction really isn't my thing and I really couldn't give a shit about 9/10 of the stuff people post on there. Especially the attention whores who don't even try to be subtle. If you have a problem with someone, take it to PM, Facebook has that feature. Why go to the trouble of posting it for the world to see...ohhhh...you want people to feel sorry for you and reply saying "Don't sweat it, you're a wonderful person and loads of people love you", jeez.

I'm notoriously difficult to contact, and the few people who I'll actually allow to contact me know to do it by text message. Nobody other than work even has my home phone number. Text me and I'll get back to you in a day or so, that's how I work.

I honestly don't find the appeal in Facebook. It just starts drama from what I can see. Yes, it has a plethora of uses, but I'm not exactly fond of the idea of giving my name, my biography, my location, my gender and several other things, plus, I already have an email and if someone needs to contact me, I'm always sure to give it to them. I don't need a facebook to keep in touch and I'd rather avoid the stream of people adding me on facebook just because I happen to go to their school.
It's kind of interesting that you brought up that last point. Recently I was talking to my dad about how we should take ourselves off facebook because we barely go on and refuse to invite random people. I blame all those shitty games that require a virtual neighborhood to play. That's why I get those invites.

I have a Facebook. I don't know why. I have a ton of people I don't know but are somehow related to my internet friends added on there. About 14. I have 28 people on my friends list.

The 14 people I know irl aren't even really my friends, aside from my mom and my boyfriend.

And no one is interested in my little status updates.

Alas, I can't really get rid of it because.. I don't know, it's someplace on the internet to linger and be self-centered..

Facebook is a very useful site without it i would be unable to frequently contact my friends while in Australia.
