Facebook, the nexus of anti-intellectual behaviour.
You notice how girls always post hearts, "beautiful", "sexy" etc on their female friends' profile pictures whenever they change? You want to know why? Well, the whole point is to be the centre of a close group of friends. So what you do is constant name-dropping, where that name is your own. The whole point is that if you spam other people enough with complements, then they'll feel obliged to comment back. Of course, there is rarely anything interesting to comment on (seeing that most facebook photos are utter crap), so you get more of the useless "sexy", "gorgeous" bull. What you end up with is an endless spiral of approval- and recognition-seeking, where the comments steadily progress to uncharted lows.
A meaningful conversation is not what facebook is about. Facebook is about "staying in touch" with your friends, aka promoting yourself to make sure people can't avoid you, ensuring your position as the person with the largest amounts of comments on your profile photo.
So there you have it. The recipe for facebooking success: Get a good camera.
