It crossed my mind the other day how people's definitions of what's considered 'fair' multiplayer conduct tend to differ a lot. I have been reading over some forums for Unreal Tournament 2004, as well as chatting ingame and realized how a lot of players tended to bash a lot of weaponry for being "unfair" and "noobish" (god I hate that word).
Admittedly, I didn't care much about it until I stumbled upon some bitching about my beloved Flak Cannon. In every match where a Flak Cannon is within good reach, I usually get the reward "Flak Monkey", which I've always taken as a compliment. Deduction; I kill a lot of people using a weapon. Means I'm good with that weapon, right?
Actually, no. In some circles, it's considered an insult.
Here's a paragraph zipped straight out of Urban Dictionary. Now I can't really tell if he's trolling or being stupid on purpose, but I know there are people around with this ideology:
I know this may sound hysterical but I had a point with this thread somewhere. Ah yes.
What do you consider to be unfair conduct in gaming? Examples?
In my opinion, if it's part of the game, you are free to use it. Some things are more annoying than others, yes, but I elevate myself above it knowing that I get more satisfaction killing the grenade launcher-hogger once in CoD4 than he got on his 10 previous times killing me combined. Cheating, however, is the unfair part of gaming. Why anyone would do it is beyond me, and again, the satisfaction part springs to mind;
When cheating, is there not a single pestering thought in the back of their heads that tells them that they're kinda ruining the fun for themselves here? Will they really think "wow, I'm awesome" when winning a match?
Run discussion.

I'm curious as to how he refers to bot aim as the ideal way of combatting. "Oh noes, he's ruining my aimhax with his Flak Cannon!11!".flak monkey
In Unreal Tournament, what experienced players call newbies who favor the flak cannon. It annoys them, because they learned long and hard to aim like bots, and with this weapon it's possible to win a matchup just by knowing where the enemy will go next.
It is then implied, that aiming were the highest of all gaming skills, and thus it'd destroy the game if you can make points without it. Ironically though, any simple bot can aim like a pro, predicting where an enemy will go next is beyond the abilities of any UT bot I know of.
