Plot makes absolutely no sense and making it a live-action movie? Why must good things be ruined like that?

I love this show and I am 17. It is smart and still funny. But thankyou Hollywood for doing what you do best, stuff up an IP.

Think on the bright side. Everone who sees this younger than 18 will become so depressed by it, they will get their own Fairies...so they can all wish it was never made.

Cartoon to Live Action is NEVER a good idea. The only time you use live action in a cartoon is to rip off those foolish enough to try this.

P.S: has this ever been done successfully? Nothing I've seen has... but you never know.

Fanboys are really too narrow minded.

It would be a interesting turn for the series. What with a serious story and what-not. But I can't see the live action thing. I mean Timmy wasn't going to remain a little kid for the rest of his life, and this could be a great way of showing viewers what Timmy will be like when he matures and how the universe of the show will change.

Either way, I could still see it being terrrrrrrible.
Some of the specials were very serious and even saddening in the messages they gave. Especially the TV jumping special where Timmy was forced to face the fact that he will lose his godparents, he will forget they ever existed, and all the memories he created with them would disappear forever as he grew older. They've addressed a lot of serious things, they just hide it the way cartoons usually do.

I think this is abad thing. I also think the series should have died after that TV jumping special. It had a pretty firm resolution.

I really haven't watched it since.

I -loved- the Animaniacs! If they try to ruin -that- childhood as well, I think I might cry... Dragon Ball movie - crap. Smurfs movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks, etc., etc., Et-GOD-FREAKIN'-cetera.

On another note: Man, I really miss Animaniacs...

Same here. Why did that show ever get canceled? Parents objections no doubt. Earthworm Jim, Freakazoid, Rocko's Modern Life, etc. Great shows that ended too soon.

What the hell happened to Mr. Crocker? Then again, I'm not sure how they'd move him like the cartoons. Half the time, he's in the air, with arms and legs at crazy angles.

And as for the plot, it just seems awfull, nothing to do with the cartoon that I loved >.<
But, one last thing that just makes me despise it even more is the actor for Timmy. He doesn't look anything like him! No buck tooth for one thing, and can't pull off the awesome pink outfit.

Oh well. I'll watch it anyway, just in case it turns out to be good.
Pah, yeah right.

Drake looks so silly! Wow, what made them think this would transition to live-action well? Didn't they learn anything from The Last Airbender? Hey, movie studios, traditionally animated movies aren't children, so it's okay to do them. Kids will still love them- I know this by experience as a daycare worker, yo.

I dont know why everyone feels embarrassed to admit they like this show. I watched it all through my mid twenties, its friggin hilarious.

But yeah. I wish I could be supprised & outraged by this but Iv been disappointed with every movie thats been based on a favourite cartoon, book, comic, video game etc, that iv given up on any expectations whatsoever. And I dont understand why they cant get it right or why non-fans are allowed to touch (& ruin) them, im wondering if theres some legal side to this where a movie can only be a small % close to the original story.

Again, I have no positive expectations for Fairly odd parents. I bet it wouldnt even have the unique humour of the cartoon let alone his dads rivalry with dinkleberg.

My first reaction was "Well, if Drake Bell wants to completely ruin what small career he has left..."

But for the lengthy version, animated shows being made into live action always have a tendancy to go wrong. The first mistake was having Timmy Turner be 23 and still in the fifth grade. The main reason this is stupid story telling is because he has fairy godparents. You mean to tell me that you are going to portray Timmy as so dumb that he can't pass the fifth grade even after 12 years of trying and fairy godparents? But then to top it off by saying that it wasn't even Crocker holding him back? At least if Crocker was in it, you could have a leg to stand on that coincides with the universe here. But seriously, how did mom and dad pass the 5th grade? Or even Crocker for that matter.... or any adult in Dimmsdale.

I am not a purist when I see something go live action. To be a purist is to be dissappointed in any live action adaptation of anything. Some things have to change to adapt a story from one form of media to another. As for this particular case, it would be better if they let Timmy graduate high school, is now 23 and works as a busboy or something at a local restaraunt. Not like his job matters if he has fairy godparents right?

Having Tootie be the love interest is actually good writing IMO. It is a chance for role reversal. By the looks of it "Mr. too good for you at 10" has became a 23 year old loser whereas Tootie is now hot stuff. I like that aspect actually. It is just having him be 23 and in the fifth grade is beyond retarded no matter how creative the writer is.

I honestly think this story would work out fine in a 30 mins episode, or even an animated movie oddly enough. I mean in the cartoon they have used covering the city in jell-o to save it from an earthquake. Timmy's parents names are Mom and Dad respectively. I mean really they could have a tortilla chip with a pink hat play as Timmy and get away with it as far as the staying true to the source is concerned. The whole atmosphere to the show is ludicrousness.
That said, I think if you are going to go live action you really should try to have it somewhat get in sync with reality a bit more than this. That is sort of the purpose of live-action media.
By the way I was 20 when Fairly Oddparents came out. I am an animation fan and Fairly Oddparents is pretty good stuff for its style. I wouldn't say it lost any quality over the years but instead gained quality. If you feel it lost quality even in story, I promise you your nostalgia is fogging your view. Spongebob is currently going through spurts of bad quality currently. At least Fairly Oddparents has the decency to not shove itself down your throat and just push out more shows for the sake of it.

Wait, wait wait. They're saying that, canonically, Timmy Turner is stupid old (for a kid) AND in the fifth grade. What? Who though that was good? Who though to bring Drake Bell into this? Are there not enough children clinging to the Nickelodeon machine nowadays? Are they afraid that if they make new stars, they'd abandon them? Are the people in charge intellectually inferior to Nappa from DBZ Abridged? Wagh!

What was wrong with Alvin and the chipmunks? I grew up with them and have nostalgia goggles and I thought that was pretty good.

This is so entirely ridiculous that I refuse to believe it. There is no way that something so entirely insane could actually come to be. This is a joke. It has to be. I mean, come on.
