Self-proclaimed Final Fantasy "fans" that have never played a game prior to/after Final Fantasy VII annoy me to no end. Recognizing that VII was the game that got you into the series is fine and dandy, and actually somewhat common. From the point that one learns of the franchise's other games, though, neglecting to even try games I through VI or VIII through XII is just disgraceful.

I wanna smack every person who calls themselves a "fan" when they haven't even played half the games in that series. Like the people who call themselves a Legend of Zelda "fan" when they've only played Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. It's even worse if they haven't played the others for some incredibly un-fanlike reason ("the graphics are terrible", "it's for that system instead of this one").

Everyone in my college pretends to like certain genres of music, film, video game etc to look cool, or different. This video pretty much sums them all up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyZspqjtG2k

"I think I'd have to say.. The Best of the Beatles." He also talks about other bands, and then when the guy asks 'who's that', he facefucks him with the bullshit he read off Wikipedia to look educated in music. I know it's a joke, and I love Alan Partridge, but this is still a good example of what I mean.

"I DOWNLOADED THE DISCOGRAPHY, I'M A CERTIFIED FAN NOW!!1ONE1!"

My brother's mate (who he doesn't really like much, he can be alright sometimes) bought a PacMan belt buckle to look retro, he hasn't even played PacMan.. and it's a shit game.

Hahaha I love the guy who laughs all the time.
OT: You reminded me of when NES was popular for people's clothing, not for playing on. The emo's I knew were obsessed with the NES on their clothes.
And I remember my friend Dave was out with his Sonic Youth t-shirt on, and some guy came up to him saying "oh you like Sonic Youth eh? What's your favourite album then?" all smug, and Dave knows everything there is to know about Sonic Youth and it turned out this guy only knew like 5 songs. Needless to say, Dave had the last laugh.

I once walked up to an American who was wearing a David Beckham LA Galaxy strip. He happened to be discussing his love of David Beckham and his stats. So I asked him to explain the offside rule. From the dumb look he gave me, I thought his brain had exploded.
The offsides always gets people in both soccer (futbol) and hockey. Offsides in soccer is a little easier to understand and explain to someone but hockey is just funny. Usually if you will ask someone who doesnt know about offsides in hockey they will say something to the effect of the soccer offsides (ie attacker behind the defender). Then you just have to laugh and ask them what the blue line is for. Always a good laugh.

Fake soccer fans are the funniest. Some know their entire team's history, but when a games on there'll always be an excuse, because they just don't wanna watch.

Funniest I've seen is this guy I know who's a Barcelona "fan", but knows very few of their players, pronounces the names of the one's he does know wrong, and, for some reason, keeps mixing Real Madrid up with AC Minal. I'm pretty sure he's never watched a game. Ever.
This is pretty funny as well. But then you have the people like my brother who can name off every Carolina Hurricanes player by jersey number and then quite a few in the minor league team. He then can go on to name like at least 5 players on every other team which just makes me wonder what the hell he does all day long.

I never think about them, honestly. They don't really bug me at all, unless they try to act elitist about it. Then I poke them with sticks.

Mostly, the "fake fans" I hate are the ones who insist they're fans of something when all they do is complain about how much it sucks.

I seem to remember talking to someone about Final Fantasy after they said it was an "epic franshise".

I asked them which games they'd played and got the response:
"Ten and twelve. I haven't played the one's before them because they're old and look like shit, so they're probably not worth playing"
How hard did you punch them in the face? They no longer have a nose, right?
Nose? Psh, better not have a face. :3

I'd ask somebody to tell me what a 'real' fan is, but I'm afraid all I'd get is a blubbering mess of an answer. What level of enjoyment someone extracts from a particular activity or subject is completely objective; if your mom is a huge fan of Pink Floyd and yet hasn't heard of Atom Heart Mother, that's fine. Nobody qualifies for being a 'real' fan; there's no initiation into the world of Star Wars that involves watching every movie (including the Christmas Special).

There's no reason for faux elitists to jump down somebody's throat because they aren't a mobile encyclopedia when it comes to said elitists' favourite thing. I'll admit that it's funny when a self-proclaimed Who fan thinks the song is called 'Teenage Wasteland', but I'd be the first one to correct them, not taunt them. Again, you can be a fan without being a savant.

Please, take this post to heart and take yourself down a notch.

It took me ages to work out the offside rull in hockey. It's so bloody complicated and I couldn't understand why the play would randomly stop. I know now though...at least, I think I do. It's when an attacking player crosses the blue line on the opposing teams end before the puck...unless he's carrying it....I think.

When I was very young I used to do this with music. I would portray myself as a music guru even though I didn't know nearly as much as I let on, mostly because I was too young to be going out to real shows and such. It's ironic that now I'm in my twenties and mature enough to do what I want but couldn't give two shits about music anymore. I don't even bother pirating music at all because it's too much trouble, so whatever is on the radio is what I listen to.

I've come across this alot, and I used to do it myself a bit.

Now I've just given up trying to impress people and just admit the void in my knowledge straight off the bat.

Plus it makes you look like a right twit! XD

I know a guy who thinks he's a hardcore 'metal head'(mostly because he owns Brutal Legend, idiot), and says that Ozzy Osborne is his favorite singer of all time. One day we were talking about music and I asked him to name 5 Ozzy songs. He replied "Well, you know, I don't really pay attention to the names."

I also hate Fallout fans who only like Fallout 3. Fucking embiciles.
You mean imbecile?

Pretty much the rule is: the puck has to be the first thing over the blue line. If the puck goes out of the blue line after being in the entire offensive team has to get out before the puck can go back in. If the puck goes out and comes back in before everyone "resets" then it is an offsides.
