The only one I can think of that hasn't been said already was the one where if you got 20 kills in cruel melee in super smash bros melee, Sonic and Tails would be unlocked.

"Naked" character's in DOA: Beachvollyball.

If I recall the magazine who put out the rumor got some nasty letter's from 'Fans'
Some guy somewhere actually did make a Nude DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball that you can burn to a DVD and play on your Xbox. But I believe you have to mess around with your Xbox's internals.

The only one I could think of was the Mew truck one. I wished it was true. It would have been easier to get Mew that way.
You know u can get mew from red and blue in cerulean city??

Yes, that's why I stated that the truck method would have been easier. That glitch isn't the easiest thing to pull off, or at least, it wasn't when I still played Red/Blue.

Unlocking Bardock in DBZ Budokai if you beat everything without dying. I forget where I heard it, but I could never pull it off anyway.

If you beat the elite4 a lot of times, you can evolve pikachu to pikablu (often they used a picture of marill for him)

The Scarab Gun on Turf in Halo 2. It almost made sense with the destroyed Scarab there and didn't help that the gun actually did exist on one of the campagn levels.

Also in Halo 2, the Golden Warthog on Headlong.

That picture is actually real but its is a very early build of ooT developed for the n64 add on 64dd (circa 1996). The triforce was actually going to be a obtainable item before they changed the whole story to have link actually have a piece of the triforce on his hand.
Wait, wasn't that later released as Master Quest? I got it with my copy of Wind Waker but never played it...

And was 64DD significantly after the release of the original OoT?
I don't know all the details about it, but I heard that both OoT and Majora's Mask were originally developed for the 64DD. When it was delayed it was decided to just release it for the 64 itself. Same for MM.

Yeah you're right about OoT, in fact it has hooks for the 64DD in the code, if you run it on an N64 with a DD installed, you get some extra menus. I don't know if they ever made the 64DD part though, as the hardware came out years later.

Nope master quest has nothing to do with the early prototype, all it is actually is just a harder version of OOT with rearranged dungeons. However their was orginally going to be a zelda expansion pack on the 64dd called legend of zelda ura (this was planned after the development of the main game was shifted to the nintendo 64) but it was canned due to the unpopularity of the 64dd.

This article may give you some insight http://www.unseen64.net/articles/zelda64-project-development/

Remember that rumor about the Duke Nukem game? Hehehehehehe... Suckers...

You beat me to it. 12 years of 3 different game engines, several vaporware awards, and several trailers and screencaps, and finally in may 2009... THE COMPANY GOES BANKRUPT. Whoo. That sucks for you.

My favorite rumors were for the pokemon games after red and blue came out. "Press A to capture a pokemon easier." "Mew is under the truck. No, he's in Bill's secret garden. No, there's a hidden cave where there are 3 eggs with Pikablu (marill) Togepi and Mew." "There's a MEWTHREE." It's amazing how many rumors can spark from both a TV series/Video Game series when people don't know that a new one will come out in a few years.

But of course, two big ones I totally bought into were the Triforce in Ocarina of Time and Luigi in Mario 64. I mean HELL there was even an entire page I found online dedicated to unlocking Luigi in mario 64. I spent a good two hours trying the entire process only to fail miserably. Oh, and the triforce in zelda? We've all heard the different theories. And don't get me started on how to unfreeze zora's domain.

I remember an old gaming magazine had an April Fool's joke about Sonic and Tails being in Smash Bros. Melee. They had photo shop pictures, and I remember believing it. The unlock conditions where so stupid that I should have known right away, but they were so hard that I never actually did it. Then next month they printed a thing saying it was a joke and that too many people took it too seriously form all the letters they got.

AHH!! I can't believe I forgot about the Triforce in OoT... I was so dead set on finding that mofo that I'm pretty sure I tried every single thing on those sites! Now that I look back on it, it was probably really dumb of me, but it was the funnest thing I had done in that game.

Edit: I remember an April fools for WoW where they said a wisp was going to be a playable character... I kind of wish they actually did that.

I remeber reading in a game magazine about a cheat code for Tomb Raider 1 (I think it was the first one) where you can go to the pool in the mansion, jump onto one of the things near the stairs, do a back flip or something into the pool and when Lara climbs out of the pool she would be naked.

In the original Diablo, there persisted a rumor within it's fandom that if you clicked a cow on Tristam a ludicrous number of times, an portal would open to a secret level. The rumor spread so rampantly and the question "How do I access the secret cow level" was raised so many times that Blizzard referenced it by making the phrase "There is no cow level" a cheat code in Starcraft.

Then upon Diablo II, they indeed placed in an easter egg where they created a secret cow level.
HHHEEELLLLLLLLL yea. I love how all of their cheats have some story behind them. I actually didn't ever make that connection before; between the cow level and the aforementioned lack thereof

In FFT, there was a rumor that you would get cloud if you beat the second battle with just ramza and delita. Interesting thing to note is that in this attempt since delita's job points and such are randomly decided I've seen him use the monk skill earth slash in that mission.

Prototype. The leg. I'm still not entirely convinced it's fake though - it DID come from the developers. Which makes it worse if it is fake.

Mechwarrior 4. I still hear people claiming it's part of the Battletech franchise.

The original Pokemon Red/Blue. "Pressing/holding/tapping A/B/Select increases the chances of a pokemon being caught!" The one I fell for was rocking the directionals left and right in time with the pokeball.
I have Pokemon Diamond on a PC emulator (paid for legally before anyone accuses me unwarrantedly of piracy...). I still press the Z and X buttons (since they act as A and B on my keyboard controls) and the Down arrow because of that. More out of sheer habit and the old comfort of it on GB and GBA than anything else...
