Fallout 1, 2 & 3 Which is Best In YOUR Oppinion.

Fallout 2 by sheer scope, but it was buggy and that is it's major flaw.

I would LOVE to see Fallout 2 made the same way as 3.... but it would be a bit too big I guess...

Fallout 2 is probably my top game of all time, so that should answer which is best in the series as well. The original Fallout would be a close runner up, if I didn't consider them to be more like two parts of the same game. Kinda like Ultima 7. Technically there were two of them, each with an expansion of their own, but I still consider them two parts of the same game. Anyway, I'd actually put Fallout Tactics next in line, just because I think they got the Tactics part of it right, and even though the rest of it was a bit... off.

Now it's not that I don't like Fallout 3, because I do, but it's just not as good as the earlier ones were. Fallout / Fallout 2 absolutely blew my mind when they came out. Fallout 3 did not. It kept me busy for about a month, during which I admit staying up a lot later than I should have most nights, and then another week for each DLC, but I haven't gone back to play it again with a new character.

Did you play Fallout 2 when it came out?

I think as a general rule, it's easier to appreciate older games, as opposed to new ones, if you were there playing them back when they were new, innovative and groundbreaking.

Hence why I always champion A Link to the Past as the best Zelda title.

The writing of Fallout 3 pissed me off. Be it how they shoehorned so many elements from Fallout 1 in non-sensical ways (Convincing main baddie to self destruct, being exiled from the vault, and so forth) and problems of it's own in that regard.

They all have a crazy amount of bugs although at least Black Isle eventually patched their game...Fallout 3 has far more satisfying gameplay though...

I think I'm going to have to give the edge to Fallout 2 until New Vegas is out.

The original Fallout, 2 had a lot more stuff but I felt the vibe/feeling/setting was a little inconsistent and there were a lot of unfinished stuff. 3 was good, but Fallout was just so fresh and new when it came out. This was an age of dragons, knights and high fantasy so to be able to go mad max all over raiders arse while quoting "they live" was awesome.

Man I feel old...

Best actual Fallout game would probably be Fallout 2.

I'm a fan of the original games, number 3 is just not even a Fallout game anymore.

It's Oblivion with guns.

I can't pick between 1 and 2. 1 had a more cohesive setting but 2 had a much larger and darker setting. 1 had the best bad guys (the Enclave are cool and all but Horrigan just doesn't compare to the Master) but 2 had better followers. 2 had good balance between the weapon skills but then had all the stupid stuff as well. 2 had New Reno but 1 had the Glow.

I can't choose.

I've beaten all three of the games and I'd say Fallout 3 is my favorite. I really loved Fallout 2 but the gameplay was a little too slow even among RPG standards and the overly difficult final boss had me looking at a game over screen way too often.
