MULTIPLE SAVES. Especially when dealing with Bug happy moments like GNR and others.
Was that the door locking bug? That pissed me off but then I realised you could climb the rubble and get in one of the doors at the top.
That is where it really takes the piss though as it requires 100 Lockpick

Ah yes.... That slipped my mind.

Luckily Bethesda ruins is nearby... the lockpick bobblehad is a start at least.

Get the Railroad Rifle asap. Probably the coolest gun in the game, and most satisfying. When you shoot it in vats it makes the sound of a locomotor train and can pin body parts (namely heads) to walls, roofs and floors.

Get the repair skill to 90 quickly. This means that all of the weapons you ever pick up, if you keep them in good condition, will last AGES and do far more damage than ordinarily possible.

Collect bobbleheads. They make you happy.

If you have Broken Steel installed, find Dogmeat and keep him with you at all times. No shit, he is actually invincible if the expansion is installed, and he's pretty damn useful for finding meds (that is if you like your meds to be beer. ALOT.). I actually tried shooting him directly with the MERV Fat Man and when I went to check on him, vats said he'd only lost 1 bar of health! Dogmeat will save your life.

Don't bother carrying radiation-suits. You'll find so many 'radaway's and Rad-x that there really is no need, and it takes a very long time to develop anything serious from rads anyway. Infact if you did the Wasteland survival guide fully, rads can be a very useful thing if you overdose. I'll say no more than that.

Get a house. Hoarding unique items and "pieces-of-junk-that-I'll-make-things-with-sometime-but-never-actually-do" is fun. Just don't stack it all infront of the doorway, otherwise your robot could send it all flying and actually kill you (no joke it happened once).

And finally!
If you get Colonal Autumn's Uniform, Poplar's Hood and a Deathclaw Gauntlet, not only will you be the most agile, stealthy and downright dangerous melee character ever, you will also look just like Alex Mercer from Prototype. Try it out, you'll thank me. = )

What's up Wastelanders? So as we all know, the wastes are full of shitheads who want you dead, and it's not easy to make a fortune out there, so I was wondering, got any tips for those inexperienced Wasters tryin' to make it out there? Here's some pretty basic advice: Carry only what's necessary, 5 sets of combat armor isn't worth it, and chances are you'll encounter good loot that's too heavy to pick up because you overpacked. Getting a house is a good idea, so you can store loot for later use.

How has no one mentioned Ol' Painless in the two pages I read? That gun is the most useful small arms early-mid game, and the quest to get it is danger free but the trek to the Republic of Dave not so much.

It has decent damage, and 0 spread when firing outside of VATS meaning where you aim is where the bullet goes.

Plus Super Mutants are practically made out of .32 rounds and Hunting Rifles so it'll never break or run out of ammo on you.

Also the Railway Rifle (say that 5 times fast) is an ultra fun toy, who doesn't like creating modern art out of severed limbs pinned on anything?

Get Operation Anchorage, get the Chinese Stealth Suit and never find anything difficult again.

Dump a shitload of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points into Intelligence. I actually did take and XP boosting perk pretty early on - if you have Broken Steel installed and the higher level cap that goes with, I reckon it's worth it.

Small Guns, Repair and Lockpick (in that order) are your best friends. I finished my first playthrough using pretty much only small weapons.

First time you get to Minefield, head directly south to the Scrapyard and get Dogmeat. As long as he lives he makes a handy bullet magnet. With Broken Steel installed he is stronger as well I believe - I only lost him because I had the misfortune to run into 2 Supermutant Behemoths within a minute or so of each other. Bastards.

Get the Scavenger perk, you will find more ammo than usual when you are robbing the shit out of everywhere. The ammo you don't use can be sold, usually for 1 cap per round. Easy money.

Take the free level up that you can get at Level 10 (I forget the name of the perk that does this).

Also, Alien Blaster FTW.

There's some heavy loot just waiting for you, so bring only your armour, primany weapon, secondary weapon that uses a different ammo set and as many stimpacks as you want since they are weightless.
