If you headshot a yau-gui with the terrible shot gun in vats at point blank range, there is a 50% chance that the body will fly 30 feet in the air.
Also, I killed a deathclaw with a 10mm pistol and without losing any health. I just used the dart gun and slowly backed away from it while seeing how fast I could empty the clip of my pistol.

One that sticks in my mind was climbing a hill to find a car on top of it, with two skeletons lying hand in hand on the bonnet, as if they lay there together watching the bombs fall...

...romantic.

Alas, I cannot find it anymore. I think it's near Big Town somewhere.

Certain things in fallout have a "random chance" of appearing... in a random place. So it's entirely possible that you'd never find that again, or that if you did, it could be in a completely different place.[/quote]

True but this car was definately part of the level geometry, it wasn't a random encounter.

The random encounters usually involve animated events as opposed to stationary objects.

OT:

The hidden ghoul filled scientific research area behind Takoma Industrial was a sweet little find, and a gorgeous vista with a sad little story to go with it.

I've always loved all the cool things that you find in Fallout 3.

One of my favorites was when I was walking up a hill. At the bottom was a destroyed car with some boards over it to make what looked like a ramp. I continued up the hill and at the top found some more destroyed cars and a grocery cart sitting there. I tried to ride it down the hill but couldn't.

There was another similar one that I found in a sewer. There was two ramps and on one side was a motorcycle tipped on its side. I hope he had fun.

I guess discovering the rock outside Megaton with the sniper-rifle in it was cool. But the funnest one was outside the Grisly Diner, there is a long row of cars going for a long time. I went on top of the high-way, shot one until it exploded, then watched the explosive chain-reaction all the way down the road. It was fun.

Just South of Greyditch on the highway in the underpass will be a bunch of raiders
watching molerat races. There are two parallel cages that the molerats run down.

Its a shame that the raiders just attack you every time they see you.
They seem to like to have fun on their off time.

Besides kidnapping how does one ever become a raider if they just kill everyone ?
Cause it seems like they never fail to get new recruits ;)

I climbed up high, somewhere in the northern half of the wasteland, near one of power station and SatCom arrays. I turned around, and.... Well, it was quite awe inspiring. Best screenshot of a game I have ever taken, that's for sure.

Now I'll just wait until I get a better video card; then I'll be able to ramp up the draw distances even farther in the .ini files and take an even *better* shot. As it is, there's this flat field in the picture that has nothing in it but some large rocks. Looks quite barren. Least I got the dead bodies hanging from the array to render at the distance I was. :D

That would be Uncle Leo. He's cool.

He didn't... if you look up at the ceiling you see his skeleton stuck on a pipe.

Apparently the stunt didn't work out too well...

This is one of the things i hope Obsidian Bethesda gets right for Fallout: NV The Elder Scrolls V. The little things and stories you find randomly make the world seem more alive, some are even funny.
Well, both games really. TES4 was lacking...

A lot of the strange things I've seen in the capital wasteland other people have mentioned already. Did anyone else find the irradiated pond behind the Tacoma Industrial park building where a group of scientists were doing tests on ghouls but got made into lunch? It's possible to walk and jump right out of the game world from that area without any mods.

So I found this awesome little house, and I found this awesome little bathroom, with a skeleton and a toaster in the bathtub. Awesome.

near three satellite arrays, there's a fake door that, when you open it, has a message that says f____ you, i though it was funny.

in point lookout, in the bank, there's a secret mini garden gnome, holding a mini plunger, standing next to a mini broken toilet.

and finally, in broken steel [possible spoiler, click below if you want to know] over some rubble, i found a garden gnome and a teddy bear playing chess.

in the building that has the tesla coil

aqua pura (FEW version)

NPCs use this as an aid item during firefights. It has the same effects on them if there is Modified FEV added to the water. However, NPCs drinking it will trigger the script that attributes the negative effect to you. In essence, if NPCs drink many infected Aqua Puras, the script will kill you instead of them. (confirmed Xbox 360)

that explains my random messages to not drink anymore water

In minefield a lady ran up saying disarm the explosives the raiders put on me. First time i succeded and then she was promptly killed by the sniper with a head shot. I reloaded but failed this time and she ran out into the mines causing a chain of explosions which detonated the car i was hiding behind. not amused i reloaded and passed to disarm the explosives. she then ran and stood on the first mine she found and blew herself up.

I did not reload.

winning fun take sneak skill of 85 with stealth suit and the perforator. you can shoot and never get detected unless they walk into you. lets you see all of the fun stuff.

i also watched the lover of nuka cola girl get mauled by a deathclaw, albino rad scorpian and a crap load of ghouls.

The first time Dogmeat died; I was so attached to him that I had to reload my previous save to prevent his death.
I always just leave him in my Megaton house where he's safe.

I can't bear to get him killed and I hate having followers anyway.
Same. But he always returned to Vault 101 (I'd get a pop up message). Is there any way to stop that from happening? I've played through to Platinum on 2 occasions and never figured that one out...
If you return to Megaton and talk to him every so often I think it resets the timer for how long we waits.

It's no biggie if he moves back to the Vault though, it's safe and secluded there and as far as I know there aren't any enemy spawns nearby.
Random "Mad Brahim" spawn.

My biggest "OMGWTFBBQ" moment in fallout 3 had to be at the start of my second play though...

Doing the wasteland survival guide while on my way to the mart I encounter not one... not two... but 3 deathclaws...
After almost shitting my pants and while running like the dickens... some brotherhood show up but there all wigged out twisting and wiggling and flipping out in the air... kill 2 deathclaws... get killed by the third...
And while that's happening I hear the VOOOOOOOSH KABOOM!!! of the firelance event and the gun lands about 20 feet from where I stand.
I then turn around to see where the deathclaw is and its gone, along with everything except for just the floor, all the cars, most of the rubble, the trees... all the props have vanished... and then I blue screen...

Definitely in my top 5 weirdest things to ever happen in any game ever...
Holy Shit.

Duuuude.

This story doesn't exactly compare to some others that have been told, but I remember one time, walking through the tunnels near the beginning of the game. I was walking around and I found some clues leading up to some scientists hideout where he was making wonder meat out of molerats. There were little hints about it throughout the tunnels, and when I found it I thought, "Wow, Bethesda really made an insane game, there is SO many little things to find that make the game so good."

Also, the part where you find a recording asking you to find the "package" which turns out to be Naughty Nightwear. Then this creepy guy tells you to give it to him. I promptly blew his head off. I ended up delivering the Nightwear to the place the recording told me to. I never really found out what the point of it was, but it made me laugh.

I also liked how you could offer that guy a threesome if he went and got the Nuka Cola Quantum instead of you. You then find his dead body in front of the Nuka Cola Factory.

The Dunwich was creepy too.

TL;DR: Fallout 3 is amazing.

That wasn't how I understood it to occur.

For example, I've read about people finding a skeleton gripping a note to a loved one... kinda like a last good bye or something. One person found him by a vault, another in the inner city ruins of DC, and another in a ditch somewhere.

So they're more than just animated events.
Once or twice, yes.

I found that skeleton too, and also the random body with the fatman... believe me I've spent hundreds of hours on Fallout 3, I know what I'm on about.

The car was definately part of the level design, it was carefully placed on top of that little hillock, and had parts of it submerged in rocks, and there were items strategically placed around it on the ground, there was nothing random about the scene.

Random encounters can happen in any number of spawn spots on the map, but this was very specifically designed to be put in one area.

You can spawn people, corpses etc... in many places but cars would be problematic, and this was clearly intended to be a stationary vista.
