Another inglorious zippy raving rant of semi coherency

Fallout 3 how it should have been.

No this is not a rant about not making it a shooter, ect

I am not too worried about script/dialog,ect its good enough, plot holes and all.

First off the story mostly tries to get you to the main stops on the main where if you care you can explore out from there, they could refine this a bit and add more main spots and sub quests.

Now let's look at the AI lets base their field of view and what they can "see"(detect) on their level and stats. Have more options in a AIs retinue from walking around to walking around looking for you to getting to cover and such most of this is handled fairly well just perhaps the AI is a bit?short sighted and a bit dumb?could run in groups better, they can do this for all AI and take stealing, ect more challenging.

Head shots should stun more and I think leg shots trip enough, also with a crippled limb their speed should be halved.

Would be nice if you could use doctor skill/healing stuff on the AI

-----------------------------------------------------------

Health, poison , radiation and player localized damaged

Health is more or less ok. Radiation needs to be something that affects everything I have noticed it only works on the player. It should be a tad harder to heal a crippled limb, it takes a week to heal a crippled location, you can quick fix with a medikit to get you up to 70%(without healing your speed/aim is halved, with healing it goes down 30% until you are fully healed)

Poison work like?well?. poison you get it for 5 minutes on first hit time dose not mulplie but damage dose, lvl 1 light poison dose something like 1-3 points of damage every 10 seconds , lvl 2 2-6, lvl 3 6-10, it either burns out kills you or you heal it with a antidote or with a rare doctors kill saving throw.

Heavy poison is 1-10 points of damage every 2 seconds , lvl 2 5-20, lvl 3 15-30

Moral of the story don't get hit by poison!

------------------------------------------------------------

Now let's look at equipment?? you need about 3 or so more levels of weapons you changed the game type and made it more action carrying around the same crap for 10+ hours is maddening. Basically there is 3 versions of everything from a taped up rusted version to a shiny less rusted or reinforced version with a hard to find shiny like new versions out there being randomly generated but are few and far between then you have the unique weapons and equipment .Really they made stuff to last the 10 hour main quest and nothing much else?.

------------------------------------------------------------

Now let's move on to levels, skills and perks and god how do I hate them since they are made for the main quest and not the game as a whole, skills should go beyond 200 but over 100 the ratio is 5 points to 1 you non primary skills, at 150+ its 10. Skills are also lowered in their effect a 20 would be a 5. Perks could be tweaked some for this setup have the book skill multiplier start off as 1 then go to 2 then after 2 more levels it goes up to 5 per book. Levels also come a bit slower perhaps 30% less XP generated from events and kills.

------------------------------------------------------------

Items and vats

Weapons need to be more tuned to vasts having more varied ranges and to hit, critical ratios, jet and other heavy stimulants need to slow the world in real time and double your action points.

------------------------------------------------------------

Drug addiction

You need a at least a 10 in doctor skill, and it takes a medkit, a random drug and a random liquid to give you a 1 in 10 chance to get un-addicted to a drug, whatever other people charge to detox you its tripled.

------------------------------------------------------------

Work bench and weapon building

One word?..morrowind????.. You can take any stat/thing and put it on any weapon you can take most ammo types and put it in any weapon, it takes more crap and skill to do this and maybe even make a lvl 5 and 10 perk that makes building crazy stuff even more easy.

------------------------------------------------------------

Weapons, aiming and damage

Aiming is more of less right the longer you aim the better you can hit something near the reticule, as skill goes up aiming gets faster and tighter and damage potential goes up 2% every 5 points.

------------------------------------------------------------

Music

It should have been easy to add music tot eh music folder so you can easily customize the music.
-----------

That's all I got for now!

EDIT

I forgot fast travel could have random encounters.

I'm not going to read the whole thing, because I'm going to bed soon, but I just want to comment on this.

It is actually very easy to mod the music capabilities. Walking through the Capital Wastelands listening to "Not Another Teenage Anthem", and killing me some super mutants was a interesting experience.

I though that game was awesome as it was and with all the mods. It became nothing less of a perfect experience.

Semi coherent indeed. You might have excluded the stuff that you said was okay from the rant, would have made it an easier read. I'm not at all sure what you were trying to say, but what I gained from it is that Fallout 3 is a pretty shallow game when you get right down to it, which I agree with. The fact that you have to go out into the game and look for the most interesting stuff yourself is weird, especially when the game seems to be made mainly with the main story line in mind.

Well, be proud Zippy, because that actually sort of made sense. Sort of.

Anyway, I would suggest mods. They improve the game tenfold, some are so good that the makers of New Vegas got their ideas from them.

If you don't have it for PC, then WEEEEP!
Actually, on another note, I am seriously considering doing a very hardcore add-on overhaul. I'm even thinking of going as far as just re-installing the game just to have a fresh setup. Alot of my add-ons are obnoxious with how they make my game crash up.

Oh, joy. An attempt to make a fun game with a plethora of mods to make it even better an accurate reflextion of how I'd end up in a futuristic post-apocalypse:

DEAD. AND FAST.

I don't want to be reminded of how unlikely it'd be that I'd make it past friggin' childhood under these circumstances. I want a game that doesn't adhere so closely to real life that I'm relieved when I have to stop and go to work.

I like the first idea, but the second... Maybe James could be more reasonable in that. Like he knows his son is a bastard, but tries to accept that.

I was leveling up faster than I could reload. What game were you playing?

If it did take a week to heal your limbs the game would be needlessly padded and it would have broken up gameplay thus making it a bad game.

I will agree that I found the main quest to be short (I even accidentally skipped to the vault where you find your father right from Megaton). However, this game is huge. There are so many side quests and the world is just huge and amazing. I think we can sacrifice story just for that. I am pretty sure the game would have done just as well without a main story.

Can't please everyone I guess. Maybe you should spend more time finding a different game to play than bitching about one you don't like and can't change...unless you have it for the PC.

I respectfully disagree with most of the things on your list and will explain why in a somewhat inane order, first of all, the guns, the whole idea of having make-shift, duct taped crappy guns, is to further the immersion the player has in this post-appocalyptic world, everything about this world need to be makeshift and rag tag, otherwise the immersion is broken, and the feeling of desperation with it.

Besides, after a nuke has gone off, it'd be impossible to find any rustless weapons, it's all just guns put together by survivors, and as Moira from Megaton said, if somethings made of glass and it breaks, it'll never be what it was before, even if you "glued together all the pieces" again.

Oh and I think you mentioned some fictitious 'Doctor skill', which I'm certain would probably just be 'Medicine' but oh well, and yeah, enemies do see the effects of Radiation, because Ghouls get healed by it.

Also, you can heal your partners.. I'm assuming that's what you mean by healing "A.I" (That's what controls them) by just keeping them stocked up on Stimpaks, they'll automatically use them up, Dogmeat excluded, who you can use stimpaks on via a chat option when he's wounded.

Skills exceeding 100 would be redundant, at 100 picklock, you can pick Very Hard locks, which is the highest difficulty, 100 Science, you can hack the hardest Terminals, and 100 Small Guns, your scopes acquire no sway, and it's more often than not a 95% chance to hit an enemies head from most distances, if it reached 100% that would be ridiculous.

Weapons DO have Critical ratios, I believe Sniper Rifles are up their for the highest ratios, it's either the Victory Rifle & 10 Luck, or the Reservist Rifle & 10 Luck, that give you an awesome chance for Crits, like 25% or something?

I think Drug Addiction was done adequately.

Most of the other stuff you mentioned, mainly about anatomical restoration, is being addressed in Fallout:New Vegas, via Hardcore mode, so I suppose that's a small, irrelevant victory?

And yeah, I guess I agree A.I could be improved, but that's a little vague now isn't it? I'm sure that thought has occured to most develepors, it's like saying that the game could of used better graphics, it's not really conceptually inspired.

But yeah, nice whack at what the game could improve on, and although I disagreed with most of them, opinions are subjective. Oh and I'm not as much of a fanboy as this post makes me out to be, the game definately has flaws, one of the biggest for me is voice acting, good quality, but repeated voice for practically every character, really fucked up the immersion. None the less, can't wait for NV. :D

Are you talking about your companion? Pick pocket them and give them a stim, they will heal themselves from now on.
