Okay, I understand that the series seems to have an excellent story and atmosphere, but is there anything that stands out about the gameplay itself?

Its visceral for a RPG..With headshots actually being headshots.

Could you please be a bit more specific?

The combat is more actiony..For example you can one hit enemys with VATS if you invest in combat. (Okay so its more, You can choose to play it sorta like a FPS.)

So the game is basically an RPG with the combat of a shooter?

Oh no! I can't kill EVERYTHING! They've put STRUCTURE in my game! How will I exercise my homocidal tendencies!?

...Seriously people, you can kill -enough-. Theres nothing wrong with not being able to kill EVERYTHING.

I live in Australia so I hope it's still good and not too modified. Here's hoping.
After an incident with Australia's game review board nazi... thing, they modified ALL versions of the game. So, it will be slightly modified from the original production(they exchanged Morphine with a made up drug), but it won't be any different from what anyone else gets.

Nor is there anything wrong with wanting the same level of freedom in a sequel that was present in the earlier games in the series.

You serious? Teddy bear amputation gun?

Really!??!?!
It's a gun that you can just dump random debris into for ammo. So yes, if you find a teddy bear, you can throw it in and shoot it at someone to kill them.

Hey, GenHellspawn, is the trap "option" still available? I loved assassinating people by sticking plastic explosives in their pockets.

Also, you could even kill the "endbossess" by sabatoging equipment or something. I assume this has also been taken out?

(I remember not having to even TOUCH the last boss in Fallout 2 becuase I switched the guns and had enclave NPCs helping)

You know, I think the fact that you can fire mother-fucking-teddy-bears at enemies and dismember and kill them somehow voids that problem. Just one step away from a weapon that fires weapons.

I really don't mind a few unkillable people or some zombies-with-no-brains-who-want-brains-zombies that I can't discuss the latest fashion with.

Hopefully there will be mods out for the pc version that let you kill the unkillables. When I slaughter an entire area in an rpg there is nothing more annoying than having people either respawn or stay standing.

I just gave Frank a shitload of beer and then laughed when he couldn't hit me from 5 feet away.
I highly doubt Bethesda would even let me pull something like that off this time.

*whoosh*
And there goes the point flying right over your head.

It's about freedom of choice. Real freedom. Not the watered down crap that gets spoon fed to gamers these days in shoddily built games like Oblivion and Mass Effect. Bethesda had a chance to make a real RPG in an age where RPG just means attaching stats to something and adding a lot of bland dialogue. Instead they're just making a big fancy Fallout mod for Oblivion and continuing to aid in the death of the RPG.

I'm so excited for this game!
I've had my special edition pre-ordered since July.

One problem, though.
Bethesda has been very tight-lipped about Allied NPCs. I haven't heard anything about recruiting people to help you, except seeing a paragraph about getting Dogmeat on your team in the Official Xbox Magazine.

Anybody heard any more details on the subject?

There IS structure in Fallout. You just have the freedom to break it. You still get a special ending for it too.

And people always ask "why do you not have faith in Bethesda?"

Why? Because Fallout 1 and 2 spoiled me.

Your supposed to be able to recruit some NPC's to help supposedly. Which its probably going to end up being like that mercenary from Tribunal expansion of morrowind.(I decked the guy out in Daedric armor or whatever and he raped when he didn't hit me every to seconds with his big ass penis extending two-hander.)

A two handed sword that fits on your penis? God damn, I missed that weapon drop.

Why? Because Fallout 1 and 2 spoiled me.
Pretty much. And people wonder why the older gamers pine for the good ole days so much.
