I'm not expecting total freedom, or fantastic voice acting, or interesting missions/quests. I'm just looking for an awesome RPG that makes me go "Wow... epic." as soon as I walk outside Vault 101.
So far, trailers and gameplay videos have proved this to me. And yeah, the pre-release reviews of the game in Europe helped me too. http://www.n4g.com/xbox360/News-210614.aspx

Sounds good.

As a person that has never played a fallout game, please explain the hype behind this title. My local Blockbuster has huge cardboard cutouts and signs everywhere for it, and I've never even heard of the series. Is it a FPS? Is it an RPG? I think there's a lot of other people on this forum who wonder the same thing. Just spell it out, why should we buy this game?

You are exactly the sort of person that will enjoy this game the most: the one that has never even heard of the first two. :-/

I'll buy a copy and probably enjoy it pretty well for it's own sake as I tend to like FPSRPGS. It won't hold a candle to Fallout 1 as an RPG though.

Fallout 2 will never be surpassed.

Ever. They can make Fallout 3 as much alike as they want, it just won't have the same charm.

I guarantee it.

Of course it wont'. No manner of improvements can win against nostalgia.

Oh no! I can't kill EVERYTHING! They've put STRUCTURE in my game! How will I exercise my homocidal tendencies!?

...Seriously people, you can kill -enough-. Theres nothing wrong with not being able to kill EVERYTHING.

I live in Australia so I hope it's still good and not too modified. Here's hoping.
After an incident with Australia's game review board nazi... thing, they modified ALL versions of the game. So, it will be slightly modified from the original production(they exchanged Morphine with a made up drug), but it won't be any different from what anyone else gets.
Dude, you can dismember people with a gun that fires teddy bears!

What more do you people want!!!
That's Actually pretty cool, I was just worried because any time some game that overseas rave about comes to Australia it gets nerfed. I thought that they had taken out the violence to some extent. Phew...

Hey, GenHellspawn, is the trap "option" still available? I loved assassinating people by sticking plastic explosives in their pockets.
To do something like that, you had to use steal, not traps.
But yes, it is still in the game.

Killing a quest giver? Heresy!
Seriously, being able to kill everything was the whole point of Fallout. It's exactly why I hated Oblivion: I never felt like anything I did actually mattered, which wasn't really helped by inexplicably unkillable NPCS and telepathic guards and the same environment copy-pasted over the whole map.
Not being able to kill everybody in a Fallout game is like making a Splinter Cell game where the only option is a direct frontal attack on all enemies. It's like making a Total War game where you only control 5 people. Total freedom was the whole point of Fallout.

You're underestimating the power of Fallout 2. It's not just nostalgia at work here.

If you haven't played a Fallout game, do yourself a favor and go get signed up for GOG ( http://www.gog.com ) and buy fallout 1 and 2. They're only a couple bucks a piece.
Borrow it from a friend, ebay it, whatever, just get these games and play them.

This isn't nostalgia talking when we compare FO3 to FO 1/2 (especially 2). Those games really were that good.

Also, why pay? They're listed as freeware now.

Because pirated verisons can carry viruses.(One that I downloaded did.) and trying to use daemen tools and mounting images can be a little difficult.

Now that they're being sold and a profit is being made off of them again, they can't be considered freeware anymore right?

Anyway, all the stuff on GOG has been fixed up to work on XP and Vista with actual support in case any game from GOG goes all squirrely on you. They're also only about 5 bucks off the top of my head. Cheap price to pay and GOG is worth supporting.

You pay so it's compatible and you don't need any tricky emulation, you get the soundtrack with it (in good quality) and a bunch of other stuff, you get SUPPORT which you won't get with a pirated version, etc.

The first Fallout is free on gametap, go play it. Even if you have a MAC.
