Saw some videos on Gametrailers of Fallout 3 and man...sometimes it looks awesome and sometimes it looks like shit.

I'm just never going to know if this game is good or not before I spend my money on it, am I?
It's Bethesda.

Trust them to fuck it up.
Bethesda...why would they?

Last time i heard Bethesda made some pretty good games.

If it was Ubisoft or EA, then and only then your comment would suffice.
They made Morrowind.

Epic Win

Then they had to go and make Oblivion.
Oy!

What was so bad about Oblivion? I quite enjoyed it! Well..

Apart from the leveling system, the main story and the voice acting ...
It wasn't a bad game. But...compared to morrowind...
Well in perspective yeah but...

Really name me one series that gets better after the first 3 episodes/sequels?
Metal Gear Solid.

I will add,

Civilization 4 - It was polished to near perfection
Metal Gear solid has what? 7 games for its name? 9?
Resident Evil - While it changed, Its a commercial Success.
Final Fantasy? - 7 being the one that everybody goes drama queen over.

As someone who has never played the first two Fallouts, I know I might sound dumb saying this, but........

I CANNOT WAIT FOR FALLOUT 3, IT LOOKS SO COOL AND MAY BE ONE OF THE BEST GAMES TO COME OUT IN THE YEAR 2008!!!!!!!!

Sorry went a little overbord there, Fable 2 and gears of war 2 also look cool.

Fallout 2 was just epic for the amount of content and repeatability. I know they didn't, but for some reason I still hope they do stupid character dialog like they did in fallout 2.
Though I never quite finished Fallout 2, (I got stuck in a part with several super mutants who all killed me in one hit) I loved the idea that character with low intelligence also spoke poorly. It seems like newer games won't do that because they have to re-record every line in the game to be spoken by a "dumb" character. But man, there were some really funny options your character could say if they were really stupid...

The game that reminds me of this is The Witcher. I'm having a great time with the game, but one of the biggest immersion-breakers is when Geralt (main character) is drunk, but his dialogue has him sound perfectly sober. This is particularly strange because in moments where Geralt has conversations in which he is "required" to be drunk he has a pretty remarkable slur. Two steps forward, one step back, I suppose.

Oh, and I'm super-stoked about Fallout 3. I think it could be great even if there's only half as much freedom as the previous Fallouts. And, I don't really mind the inability to kill any NPC, my RPG characters tend to swing to the good.

You pay so it's compatible and you don't need any tricky emulation, you get the soundtrack with it (in good quality) and a bunch of other stuff, you get SUPPORT which you won't get with a pirated version, etc.

The first Fallout is free on gametap but if you want to skip it and see Fallout in it's prime, go to the second one, despite that you'll miss a lot of good stuff.
Actually, I would have to disagree. Yes, Fallout 2 is superior to the first in many ways, but I think that you should try Fallout first. It will give you more understanding of how the Fallout world works, and it's easier for beginners to finish.

I agree with both of you, I'm gonna edit that part out of my post.

My favorite lines in Fallout 2:

"I know I'm just an NPC, but I am deeply offended by the way women are portrayed in New Reno." - generic New Reno woman.

"You're columbus! I'm America!" - Whore in New Reno "brothel".

"Guard is critically hit in the crotch for [#] HP. She takes it like a man. Which is to say, it hurts."

Its the tendency towards camp and breaking the fourth wall that makes me prefer the first one. It also had a much better story. It didn't have as many bugs and obviously unfinished sections as F2 did either.

Preference for one over the other is as follows: F1, better stuff. F2, more stuff.

Yeah actually, the story for the first is more memorable, and F2's story really gets good at the second half while the first one is just good period. It also has more memorable moments and doesn't throw in "big end boss" (well it did, but I could tell him to kill himself. After OD'ing on Mentats). Killing the overseer is also one of the nastier deaths I've seen in a game.

I think I prefer Fallout 2 over the first one simply because it just addressed some issues the first one had. Like the pain that was currency management >_< and there's more options to do with your character, and a little more freedom. Being able to **** people for discounts is pretty useful. (Though I think the trade-off is karma)

There's also no difference in dialogue depending on your intelligence. If you've got an intelligence of 0 you'll still get the same options as you would if you've got an intelligence 10. A lot of humour has been sucked out of it as well, according to the first review.

Not looking very hopeful.

Alright, no purchase from me! I'll wait for the mod community to build up and put all that back in, but for now, no sale.

Now, there are unkillable characters and bosses that you only have two ways to kill.
Lame.

If they were that worried of losing the casual gamer they should have had warning screens telling you that you're about to break the game rather than making people invincible.
But that was the beauty of Fallout: If you killed every single character in the game, you could still win. You could also win by not killing anything at all. Bethsoft has taken the principle and screwed it up somehow.
Now, there are people you can only negotiate with, and people you can only kill. Which really sucks.
Random rumores & speculation, feel my wrath!
1.)"You killed your father! Now you can play vault simulator 3000!" Wow, fun! And your wanted for murder, so they are going to kill you on sight! Super fun! They say they have mabye six unkillable characters from what I read, (but it may have changed so don't rely on that). Probubly your dad and the Overseer are unkillable, which makes complete sense. It won't ruin the game not to kill six peple.
2.) A boss you can only kill two ways? Man, thats stupied. I mean, every other game ever let you beat the boss in any way. Like MGS4, against Screaming Mantis! Or God of War, or Super Mario RPG! Those games have at least eight ways to win! Otherwise they would be the worst games ever.
3.) *WARNING: You are about to hear how I think this is a viable method, but could ruin the game because you want to kill them now, but want to do the quest later, and then your screwed.* It could work.
4.)Bethesda reports that you can skip chunks of the main story by finding info out on your own, like the last games.
5.)A worker at Bethesda beat the game only killing one radscorpian early on.

Now, what your (GenHellspawn) thinking of is a quest where mabye, oh I don't know, you are hired to kill someone? To bad you can't not take the quest, knowing that you would have to kill someone. Also, I think it is hilarious in Oblivion where they pass out. It would be like that, but while wasting ammo.

As for negotiations, other then a quest based on negotiating, you would have to talk to people in Fallout as well (unless you skipped to later in the game, as mentioned before), so, instead of makeing bashes against it on an internet forum (that will, by the way, never make a difference on anything, ever), you should wait for it to come out, then rent it, and write a review or something.

Look, you can't take Fallout 3 and compare it to Fallout 1 or 2. It isn't fair. The only thing that will give Fallout 3 a 7/10 is that it's a direct sequal. When you look at Fallout 1 & 2 you have complete freedom to do anything you want. But, we can't do that anymore. Kill a child? "Fallout 3 rated AO by the ESRB". Use a baseball bat to kill your own father brutaly, just because you can (unless he is evil/a boss)? "Fallout 3 rated AO by the ESRB". This is why the game won't compare. All the current consoles are M and lower. Fallout 1 & 2, if rerelesed and rendered in high-def, would be AO. No doubt. So lets call Fallout 3 something not Fallout. How about Wasteland? Done! I am really excited about Wastland, how about you? It would be awsome if someone made a mod for all consoles and the PC that would give you as much freedom as, say, the Fallout series!

Well for starters, I recommend you play a Fallout game, which you probably haven't.

1. Yes, it will. You also obviously haven't read any of my previous posts. Let me just take out all the conjecture:
ANYTHING UNKILLABLE COMPLETELY RUINS A FALLOUT GAME
Sure, that one Bethsoft employee can beat the game via only killing one random creature, but he probably can't win the game by killing everything in sight. Which you could do in both Fallout games.
2. It is stupid, considering you're comparing God of War to Fallout. That really makes absolutely no sense.
3. ...what?
4. I couldn't do that in the review copy I played. I call bullshit.
5. See #1

Like I said, go play Fallout. There are no quests that are based on anything other than somebody asking you to do something. You can do it however the hell you want. An example of this would be a quest in Fallout, where a shop owner is attacked by a gangster and asks you to get evidence so he can put the mob boss in jail. You can do that, but you can also tell the mob boss about this, and kill the shop owner to get some free money from said mob boss.

I'm sure a review copy doesn't bring a full image of the game to the table, but I've played it.

I'll not get overhyped yet... gaming companies have grabbed my hope and stomped on it like a cigarette so many times I won't believe it until I see it. However it is made by Bethesda, so I guess they deserve some more respect from me for oblivion.

I've watched the good General in a few threads on this subject, and he's always struck me as one of the ones who really "gets" Fallout. I was maintaining my cautious optimism, however hearing that he's experienced the review copy and can confirm the "Oblivion with guns"-ness of the game, I think that officially knocked Fallout 3 off my radar.

That's cool. I had enough other games I was going to buy soon anyway. Knocking one off will make the finances easier for the rest.
