1. Blockbuster and most other decent rental places rent for a week, 2 rentals of hardcore gaming should be enough to get a good value out of the game.

2. Blockbuster doesn't have latefees.

Let me list things I'd rather rent from blockbuster then buy:
1. I didn't buy GTA IV but played it for 8 weeks straight due to my Blockbuster Online membership
2. Also didn't buy Oblivion but still played it for 6 weeks
3. Bioshock, played it through a couple times in 4 weeks

And after all that, Fallout 3 just seems too big to rent

How much did it cost to continually rent those games! :O

Do you get a special discount for having an online membership, because at my blockbuster it would have been cheaper to buy the game than rent it for two months.
I got one coupon for a free game or movie every month, every movie I got could be used as a coupon to reduce the price of the game.
So all in all here were the prices:
GTA IV: $20
Oblivion:$10
Bioshock: $5

Sweet!

If you work in a blockbuster you get a free rental card as a perk.

It's good to know people :p

personally multi player would be a major improvement to the game if they added another map for it 2 be played on because hardcore RPG addicts like myself finished the game long ago at 100% completion not to mention that getting a few buddies or even just one and going on an enclave/raider/ghoul/mutant killing rampage would not stop being entertaining for a good long time

There is a lot of pausing in fallout 3. You pause to use VATS non-hotkeyed items, hacking, lock picking and conversations. Pausing generally gets annoying in multiplayer as it pauses everyone. Also, how would the wait, fast travel, followers and inventories work?

While menus could be done Phantasy star online style (The menu opens but the game is still going.) it would be incredibly annoying to team up with a VATS heavy player due to all the slo-mo third person targeting.

In theory it'd be great, in practice, it'd be terrible.

The pauses and such, and traveling, and quest-changing... I get the feeling it would be like diablo 2. Different players have their different worlds and if you join a game you're in that one.

Exactly what I was thinking, VATS would be utterly useless if it wern't to pause. So my verdict is no Online. As neat as it would be, it would be a total fuck-up and ***** to play

Multiplayer in Fallout 3 would be like multiplayer in an Elder Scrolls game. Very very do not want. Honestly, it just should not happen, ever.

The V.A.T.S system wouldn't work really well, it would distrubt the gameplay for the other player, I don't understand how that would work in multiplayer.
But that game having some kind of multiplayer would be cool I guess.

Mods have been created so that Oblivion has multiplayer. It works alright and it's quite fun. I killed somebody by causing them to hit a bunch of guards with a spell. Seeing as Fallout 3 uses the same engine it would be possible but difficult, especially with VATS.

It would be more fun to just have a bunch of other players wandering around the wasteland too. Waltzing around, shooting molerats, then BAM snipered by me, ha.

That would be sweet if there ever is a Blockbuster out there in the Capital Wasteland.

Yeah I realize this thread has been dead for a long time but I felt that you guys are putting way too many restraints on the game.

If your going to add all the net coding required to make it multiplayer/co-op there are a lot of things you can do to alleviate many of the concerns you have. Such as the infinite pausing, VATS would not be a big part of the game in the traditional sense, it would boil down to bullet time which is entirely possible to do without the use of pausing as shown by F.E.A.R. The map traveling would be taken out but traveling would be made much quicker by means of transport i.e. Cars, Motorcycles, Brahmin, and all those other cool creatures and machines that aren't trying to kill you. The entire game would have to be reworked with harder enemies, better AI, and different layout to dungeons. That being said, fallout three could very much work out as a multiplayer/co-op game it would just take so much work that the game would no longer play the same way, but something more like CoD5's Co-Op with an open world. It would be much more about player skill than your characters skill.

They would have to modify how VATs works so as to avoid the enourmous slowing sdown it wauld cause in gameplay : you would be running along then every few seconds time would slow down as someone used VATs.

Good idea but what happens to V.A.T.S.? You can't keep it in an online mode because it wouldn't work.

Would be very fun, especially when doin a block ops missions style assassination on a super mutant behemoth then player two botches the whole mission by giving off position and then fatman player two
