Well I hope someone figures out an interesting way to make fallout 3 co-op despite the VATS and other issues. Whether it be a mod or official from Bethesda that could be really cool...although it could also be terrible, so lets just say its an idea with "potential". I think it would be reallyyy fun being able to play fallout 3 co-op even with just one other friend, it would make playing on a harder difficulty so much more interesting..assualting a place from different directions..sneaking around..sniper support..the possibilities would be endless if this ever worked.

with hacking, lock picking, searching boxes and stuff, and going into pip-boy, it no longer pauses (other guy watches your back)

and about VATS...both players have to press it to use it? same with fast travel, entering buildings and such...easy solutions, no?

oh, and the "feeling of loneliness" is already "ruined" if you have a follower...multiplayer wouldnt ruin fallout at all...now lag on the other hand...

I was thinking the same thing with the hacking,lockpicking,pip-boy thing. Even entering buildings could be independant to each player. So what about VATS...hmm...how about disabling it? just taking it away with co-op. I understand the major RPG fans probobly wouldent like that but if you think about it, it might be balanced seeing as how you now have an actual person backing you up. LAG will always be an issue... but this could deffinetly work if anyone really focused on it.

I think part of what makes Fallout 3 awesome is the complete lonesomeness you feel, and how everything feels like it's up to you. With multiplayer, I would feel just like a cog in the machine, like my efforts didn't even matter.

But... Demons Souls pulled this off perfectly, and I bet if anyone could do it, it would be Bethesda.

Ok necroing a thread like this is not cool... it was started in October of 2008...

But I really don't think that this could be possible. One of the main parts of Fallout 3 was the feeling of loneliness you get from traveling by yourself and sort of monotony and depression...

Yea I get what your saying Shamgarr, and I agree with you that the lonesomeness is what makes fallout amazing. However I think working together with one other person would be on a totally different level, think about how playing on hard would be so much more interesting, all the different ways you could work together to survive and what not..sharing gear..watching eachothers backs..timing attacks..I think this is one of those ideas that if ever attempted..it will either be amazing..or terrible lol, not much room for middle ground on something like this.

Multiplayer Fallout 3, in any way shape or form? No. There are some games that just don't need multiplayer and are likely better off without them. Like Fallout 3. And Bioshock 2.

I see a lot of people saying vats wouldn't work and im seeing people saying just take vats out. taking it out would be a bad idea because there are a lot of people out there who base their entire character and expirience on vats. Also the skill system wouldn't work. It would be hard to play as a stealth character when you're teamed up with a guy who fires a gatling laser at anything that moves.

Maybe not multiplayer, but I do want something that makes it easy to show my friends where things are. Since I obtained the strategy guide for Fallout and all the expansion packs all my (online) friends are constantly in need of locations and its hard to tell them where a location is "Ok, steve, its just north of the _____ gas station...What? you dont know where that is? Ok...See that road all the way at the west? Go a little north but kind of east" Maybe something where I can jump into their games as a dog and they follow me or something, that would be neat. THE MAIN PROBLEM I SEE WITH FALLOUT 3 MULTIPLAYER IS VATS. It would be odd seeing an enemy freeze and dies in slo-motion.

All the mechanics from fallout 3 put into a MMO would be pretty good, i like the idea of adventuring over the wasteland with my friends XD
They'd have to make the wasteland 100 times bigger though, to accommodate the amount of people who would play the game (if it was any good)

There was actually a multiplayer mod out for Fallout 3 that was supposed to allow that. Worked terribly and it got scrapped, but it was the closest thing to real multiplayer the game will ever have.

I don't think Fallout 3 multiplayer would be very fun, though. Or maybe it would. Who knows?

Isn't fallout 3 a storyline-heavy RPG? Like Bauldur's Gate and ... Fallout?

Interesting to think of how that would work online
Nope, take the story-line and guns of Fallout, and then just add oblivion and you have Fallout 3.

and you guys who dont want co-op in fallout 3, just don't download the mod. how easy could it be?
They are talking about a multiplayer, which does not necessarily mean coop. And we are not talking about a "mod". We are talking about an actual multiplayer, and that would truelly decimate the game.
