Healthier DLC flow
I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.
a better stream of dlc.
Oblivion had the castles and the land of madness.
Fallout had the aliens, the pitt, anchorage, broken steel and point lookout.
they just had more and in a quicker sucession.
Shivering Isles was bigger than all of Fallout 3's DLC's put together.

After my first play through fallout 3 I realized that the main quests were boring as fuck.

Side quests on the other hand are fantastic.

Did you just do the main storyline. You can go everywhere locating all sites, do all the side quests. And download the DLC to add fun to it Fallout 3 is an amazing game. To me Oblivion was a boring mind fuck..it bored me to no end.

While both games were fantastic, in the end I'd say Fallout 3 is the better game for someone like me. I've never been a huge fan of the medieval fantasy RPG, and to be quite honest the central combat mechanics of Oblivion simply pale in comparison to those in Fallout. That said, Oblivion has a much more interesting loot system and wandering generally serves a purpose beyond simply finding out what's over the next hill. In terms of a world being realized (NPCs notwithstanding), Oblivion is the superior game. In terms of an overall pacakage, Fallout takes the cake for me.

It is worth saying a second time that this does not mean oblivion is a bad game. I loved oblivion (and morrowind and arena and daggerfall) and cannot wait for the next installment. It's just, were I forced to choose which was the better game for me personally, I would have to choose fallout.

I found Fallout 3 better hands down. It wasn't without issues but at least I wasn't bored out of my mind like with Oblivion.

I was actually half way through making a big post detailing point-by-point why I consider Fallout 3 to be a superior game in every regard, as well as calling Oblivion a steaming pile of poop, but then I remembered the fanboy wrath that descended upon me in a thread yesterday when I dared to state my reasons for disliking Oblivion and decided I'm not in the mood for that crap all over again.

I'll just state that Fallout 3 is superior is every category to Oblivion (visuals, gameplay, mechanics, writing, plot, characters, game world, etc.) and leave it at that.

I enjoyed both and they were both equally good games. Oblivion's setting just fits me better, so that's more my game. I like walking in the woods and over the mountains and enjoyed the dungeons a bit more. Also, I enjoy lots of sidequests and Fallout was a bit lacking in that department, though the sidequests it did have were cool and expansive.
On top of that I don't care much for DLC. I bought the GOTY edition for Oblivion, but have yet to play the Fallout expansions. I ordered the GOTY edition for Fallout a couple of days ago because it was insanely cheap, so I guess I might revise my opinion in next week. ^^

Both great, Oblivion fits me better.

Fallout 3 was a lot more immersive, and I could strive on because I knew that even simple "bring letter to point B" missions could expand into several Raider attacks, looting, running from a pack of giant scorpians, and come to your desitination only to find...

the town being killed off by attacks from (non-sparkling) vampires.

I'm a Fallout 3 fan. Once you go V.A.T.S., you can't go B.A.C.K

But the world felt more, helpful and enticing. The exploring of modern ruins was better than running around a field. I'd played Morrowind once, I tried to find my way through a swamp, that was no fun at all, and starting Oblivion I sorta enjoyed it, but didn't like what it gave me.

I could depend on which you play first, or what, but F3 gave me a better journey, so much that I'm still playing it again, and I haven't even gotten the DLC on it yet, and I'm considering saving up so I can afford pre-ordering F:NV because I liked what F3 gave me as a player and as an experience

I have just finished playing Fallout 3, and as I write this the credits are rolling on the screen next to me, but I'm sitting here wondering what all the hype was about, I thought the game was pretty dull, it had some decent parts and the first few initial sections were quite interesting but after about halfway through I lost intrest in the game. Compared to Oblivion, Fallout 3 was a waste of my time.
I was just wondering though, did i miss somthing?
And what do you think was better Fallout 3 or Oblivion?

3 Actually sucks you in

I preferred oblivion as there was a lot more you could do with your character (spells, weapons, abilities etc) and i prefer a lot of the characters, voice acting aside, like the grey prince and sheogorath, and i find a lot of the chracters more interesting than the fallout ones.

plus the end of the fallout quest is pants

I did do quite a few side quests but they turned out to be pretty gash. The whole enviroment put me of fallout alltogther i think.

See, when I played Oblivion for the first time, i couldn't get into it.

When i played Fallout 3 for the first time, i immediately got hooked into it.

Which made me think, "wait, this is essentially the same thing as Oblivion; why didn't I like that?"

So I went back and played Oblivion again, and guess what?

I love that now, too.

So without Fallout 3, I would never have appreciated Oblivion. So I owe Fallout more.
for me it was the other way round, I played Fallout 3 first and got horribly bored with it just from my character choices, then about a year later i played Oblivion and had the same realisation that "if i like this so much why dont i like the other one" but unfortunately Fallout paled in comparison

Oblivion's world was dull. Like a renaissance fair with bad facial-animations. But you could do a lot with your character, which was fun.

F3 clearly had the better world. Lots of fun references to the past, the coolness of seeing Washington landmarks, etc. But as for playing the game, it was pretty much "Guns. Lots of guns." Nuking that town was an "epic" gaming moment. Like the Chernobyl mission in Modern Warfare. It'll stay with you for your entire gaming career.
