So people, I've got myself Fallout 3 and so far i'm not having a good time with it.

I've just met up with Three Dog of GNR and I still can't get into the game, I'm finding it pants, please tell me it gets better from now on?.

I put "unusually long" in the title because it still doesn't feel like i've actually started playing the game, the Vault is the tutorial for movement, Megaton is the Tutorial for using the compass and dialogue and DC feels like a tutorial in become accustomed to getting bored alot and throwing away all your stuff because your too fat and can't run.

Does it get better?.

Bother this nonsense, I'm putting Far Cry 2 on, that game is the nuts.... gun porn *starts dribbling*

Probably. I'm not sure if this thread is some kind of attempted suicide by cop or not though.

you have to play it at your own pace, the game starts when you realise you dont need to follow the story and you go out exploring. then it shows how amazing a free roam game can be. also i hate far cry 2 aswell >.>

Unfortuatly if you don't enjoy it now you proably won't enjoy it as it continues. It dosen't get better then Oblivion.

My advice: Don't follow the main questline. Wander aimlessly about the Capital Wastes until you have seen it all, then get back to finding your dear old dad.

I have to admit, DC did get a little boring for me. But I've racked up 30 odd hours of gameplay now but exploring the wasteland. There's loads to do and it isnt all cramped and filled with mutants like DC.

You seem to be following the story. You will have way more fun the moment you realize all the fun in the game is to be had by going off and just free roaming through the wastes. If you thought Far Cry 2 was fun, then Fallout 3 will be awesome for you.

oh right, good, it just feels like im getting funneled here there and everywhere still, not liking it one bit.

I like gunplay, so Far Cry 2 is one of the greatest games i've come across, the gunplay is outstanding. Fallout 3 on the other hand, the gun play is piss poor.

Get it on PC and use cheats to enhance your experience. Don't use too many, though.

You seem like the type of person who wouldn't appreciate or understand Fallout 3's amazing story and dialogue. No offense.

Slightly off-topic, I love games with long beginning sections that are slightly different. The most brilliant example of this imo is Half Life (1). The fact that the beginning was so ordinary, and you saw how many sections of Black Mesa you would be fighting through later operating normally, really made the main part of the game more hard hitting.

haha, I haven't said a word about the story, you don't seem like the sort of person who can read, no offence.

edit, apologies my man, I'm only messing with a same sort of retort. Ya dig?

Don't just follow the main quest... go have a wander around and see what you find instead. Do what you want, not what it tells you to.

Ok, i'll go fuck about, but I don't think you understand my love for good gun play mechanics... Fallout doesn't have much of that so far.

Yeah, starting a game by busting open a vagina really is something.

It gets better. After GNR, you have at least a high enough level to go free roaming. outside of Washington monument is Museum of History (Reily's Rangers and part of Head of State), In Megaton there's Wasteland Survival Guide and Blood Ties (If you defused the bomb) and North of Megaton is Big Trouble in Big Town. There's tons to do. Just stop searching for your dad for a while.
